  1. I'm glad someone smarter than me can read the new law. I read the meals part 3x and the only thing I got out of it was a headache!

  2. Well this is true, and a good reason for me to get it done. BTW, The Wizard of Oz is one of my favorite movies. I played the Scarecrow in 4th grade, no brains then, working on them now.

  5. Since we've had a few topics posted already with questions, and several that included where information or analysis can be found, I thought it might be a good idea to make one post with links to the law and those additional sources. Here's a link to the final enrolled bill on the Library of Congress website: https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/1/text Today's KPMG News Flash email included extensive first observations of the new law, 167 pages worth. Thank you, @Abby Normalfor suggesting this as a news source. That document is here and is a searchable pdf: https://home.kpmg.com/content/dam/kpmg/us/pdf/2017/12/tnf-new-tax-law-dec22-2017.pdf There's this this nice summary from CCH of the highlights: https://www.cchgroup.com/media/wk/taa/pdfs/news-and-insights/federal-tax-legislation/house-gop-tax-cuts-job-act.pdf Please feel free to add any others you've found that may be useful and accessible to our members.

  6. I found this website that highlights the changes from 2017 and 2018 for meals and entertainment: https://www.dsb-cpa.com/tax-reform-meals-and-entertainment-changes-for-businesses-2018/

  7. Every year I go through this and every year I tell myself it is too early. Meaning. here it is January 13 and I am wondering where my returning clients are, calling me, emailing me... Every year I start to get concerned but every year it gets busy and busy fast.. I did about 1040s last year, in addition to my business and payroll accounts.. But every year I wonder what is wrong.. Now for tax year 2018 it may indeed be different

  8. I did my first 1040 today! My son just has one W2 and is always anxious to get his refund. Wasn't thrilled that efiling doesn't open for another 2+ weeks.

  9. I have about maybe 20 business returns done, subject to my software allowing printing and efiling.

  10. I was given a temporary password by EServices and told to wait on confirmation letter that never arrived. Now I am finally thinking like Jack and Lion, let the client get it, they didn't keep track of everything so why should I fret about it.

  11. I've already worked on 2 S Corps and 1 709. But I am enjoying the slow days and arranging my pads, pencils, and paper clips, knowing that in a couple of weeks my life (and everyone else's here) will change for months to come.

  12. My time is better spent taking classes than driving all over the state to prove to the IRS who I am. For the few times I need transcripts, I will make the client call and spend their time.

  13. NAEA recently launched its new version of the former WebBoard - it's quite different than what you may remember if you haven't been there lately - here's the link to login - you may need to use your username and password - webboard.naea.org/browse - and there's a group of tutorial information there to learn the new use.

  14. Unless someone is aware of the ramifications, those types of payments are always under withheld. Few want to use the supplemental rate (since the employee would be upset), and few want to do the math for aggregate. Most employers will even fudge those checks, removing other deductions, to make the bonus look bigger - knowing no employee will ever complain about getting too much money. Had two of the exact same question in the last half hour!
