Here's hoping she doesn't read our forum! Your secret would be out! By the way, have we discussed the cost of keeping your secret, here?5 points

Just finished, 12 ptp's [6 sold], 8 rental properties, refi consolidated mortgage with 5 properties. Yahoo, just one simple return for tomorrow and about 35 to review from staff.4 points

I love all of you too! I always thought of this forum as a round table where love and trust always prevails, that's why I felt confident in relating the story, and the fact that Laura doesn't know my password.4 points

We had a saying in the firehouse...."What you say and do here stays here." But it never did, too many guys got in trouble. But we're better than that, aren't we? Please say yes, I'm on a roll here, romantic dinner with expensive wine last night, now I really need to charge those clients extra.4 points

Same people every year, will keep me busy all weekend. Some I haven't heard from as they need constant reminders. So I get into office super early due to workload and go to bang out an email "Hey BabaLou, do you know what date it is?" "It's 10/12 and I'm running out of time" I think to myself it's Columbus Day......Holy Matrimony, it's my anniversary! Luckily wife had a 7:30 dentist appointment, never saw her. I ran out to Stop and Shop and picked up a mushy card and beautiful bouquet of red roses with the green and frilly white stuff. Sitting nicely on the table when she got home. I'm like a hero now. Still going to charge the client extra. Note: That's not the flowers on the left, could have been when I remembered last year.3 points

Absolutely! But we also TEASE each other. Mercilessly, sometimes. We all love you, @FDNY, and would never rat you out. Charge those clients enough to pay for that wine!3 points

I am special too. Renewed 3 days ago. But then, I got my PTIN when it was first implemented to protect the tax preparer from identity theft (we used to have to put our SSN on the bottom of the tax return). Somehow, a program designed to protect tax preparers SSN has become a tool of discipline for the IRS, since they can take it from you and along with the number, your ability to practice tax preparation. You cannot efile without a PTIN, and efile is a requirement to practice. OK, rant over. Tom Modesto, CA3 points

I do as well. A client needs an overwhelming reason to need it before I'll cave in. This has happened possibly twice in over twenty years.2 points

I avoid bonus for that very reason. It cuts down on state differences.2 points

Why wouldn't they? They probably already have you name, address, SSN , DOB and Drivers License info from the Equifax hack last year !2 points

They absolutely do. I have had problem after problem with my major credit cards, store credit cards, and people submitting applications for credit in my name, SSN, etc., with an address in Florida. It has been the 'account security question' and companies phoning my land line number (yes, I still have one) that has saved me so far. Eeegads.1 point

Told my partners; they laughed out loud. Before, though, I had warned them this was NEVER to be told to clients!1 point

Unrealized receivables are "hot assets" - This might help explain it: https://www.lexisnexis.com/legalnewsroom/tax-law/b/federaltaxation/posts/tax-issues-involving-unrealized-receivables This: https://www.cengage.com/resource_uploads/static_resources/0324304838/6668/definitions-11.html This article from The Tax Advisor talks about the impact to the partner: https://www.thetaxadviser.com/issues/2010/aug/clinic-story-08.html tTis one has a good overview too: http://irszilla.com/partnerships/payments-for-unrealized-receivables-and-inventory-items.htm1 point

Enter an AZ loss in the same amount as the depreciation addition to zero it out.1 point

We are in the process of moving and had to unfreeze our credit accounts to get a line of credit. Will be glad when it is all complete and I can lock it up again. I have serious doubts any criminals will take the time to unfreeze an account and not just move onto another on their list.1 point

I am devastated that I wasn't considered special enough to get an invite to renew early! I passed the EA exam in one shot, renew my PTIN and license faithfully, take all the required CPEs and then some (including 2+ friggin' hours of ethics every friggin' year), have never gotten a letter that the returns I prepare are suspicious, am nice to IRS auditors, even defend the agency when clients blame them for everything (blame Congress, I say). In fact, I got my PTIN the very first year they were offered. I am a model, exemplary, legacy PTIN holder and tax professional, so why was I so unfairly overlooked? Daddy likes you more than he likes me! PS. I used to renew in Dec because I didn't want to pay early. I still do, so I would have deleted their early invite anyway. Sour grapes?1 point

It looks to me that he is essentially selling good will - his client list. Thirty years in business, would lead me to think that most of the equipment is old and of little or no value and the buyer would want to modernize. This could be a sticking point as your client would want something for it.1 point

I agree that is is NOT a qualified business activity for the domestic production deduction. The do not produce a physical product from other items.1 point

Ran into the same problem. The Tax Pro web page has a box on the right inviting you to reregister your PTIN. Could it be that the programmer setting this up just forgot to complete it, took a vacation, died, or was abducted by the Russians to gain info for hacking the IRS website??1 point

Well yeah; now that I've read Randall's reply and realize that IRS hardly bothers with it, it is yawnable. However, it could have been serious because it would be just like them to screw it up, send you a notice stating you can't efile until the number's verified as renewed, but no problem since it will be fixed no later than May 1st.0 points

Just to clarify, Engineers and Architects, who do not produce a physical product, do qualify, but Accountants don't qualify.0 points
