  1. I recommend strongly AGAINST a wifi system (instead of wired). More and more cybersecurity risks. Here in MA, if a client's confidential information is taken and they trace it to me or my systems, my business is toast. As am I.

  3. Then I would call in to ATX, maybe there is some synchronization (for lack of a technical term) that has to be fixed. Sounds like the transmitted estimates are the problem, but what do I know. Give them a call, they have nothing to do now other than hounding you for a renewal. Good luck.

  4. So i received a call from my rep this past Friday, and she wanted to know if I was going to renew for 2019. i asked if CCH was going to fix the 199A calculation. She asked, what do you mean? I told her that I find it ridiculous that the calc isn't automatic. You already have all of my information for performing the calc. you have the income, you have the retirement info, the SE calc, the fixed assets info. She said no one else had complained about the calc not being automatic. I said I find that hard to believe. You must have more types of clients that it pertains to. She said I could upgrade to Advantage to get the advance calculations. I said you are out of your mind that I would pay about $2400 more to upgrade to something I mostly do not need. I told her that beside the 199a calc, your phone system is completely unacceptable! I was on hold for 2 hours 38 minutes just to get a rep to unhang two efiles that would not go thru. Please tell me that others have voiced that concern also and she said yes. So basically I am paying you to cause me frustration. Nothing that they will work on it.... just nothing I told her Drake could perform the calc and they answer their phones. Her response was are you sure Drake does that? Not we are addressing it, but poo pooing the competition. I kid you not she was writing down the 199a calc to ask about why ATX wouldn't perform the calc and to see if it is going to in the future. She is supposed to call me back next week.

  5. Yup, this kind of stuff was why after 20 years with ATX, I left for Drake before last ta season. Yes, Drake does do the calculation and the cost to renew Drake is the same as last year and the year before that..

  7. If you don't want to go to 10, you can get 8.1 for 10 bucks. At least, that's what my IT guy charged me on new build recently. I've been on 8.1 for over 6 years with zero problems. Support for 8.1 ends 1/10/2023. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/13853/windows-lifecycle-fact-sheet

  8. I had a client with the same stock, and If I recall correctly you treat this as though they sold the Reynolds stock and received cash and shares in exchange. So the value of the BAT is added to the cash to get proceeds and then the basis for the Reynolds is subtracted to get net gain (loss). So I agree with what I think you said. Sorry, it has been a long April. .

  9. First year Drake user and even when ATX offered me a terrific deal I will not go back until Drake gives me a reason to! I just don't see that happening. Their support cannot be beat, their product performs for all my needs, and their price is something I can afford!

  11. I recently checked it out and come January 2020 you can extend 7 by paying per computer. I read it will be $50 first year, then $100 the second and I think $150 the last year. I was planning on getting a new computer, now not sure as my current one works well. Will probably extend either way, it's only money, we can always make more.

  12. If you only have 4GB of RAM, windows is using the Page File a lot. The Page (or Paging) File is space on your drive that Windows uses when it runs out of memory. Wi-fi is less secure and much slower than a wired network. I don't like combo modem/router devices because it's nice to be able to replace one or the other, but they work and if you're renting it, that doesn't matter.

  14. PPL might be able to resolve it immediately, if the year is improperly flagged, assuming the CSED date has passed. If not, then a call to collections will have to be made. A tip: If a levy release is required, do not let the IRS mail it out. Provide them with the fax number of the payroll dep't. and tell them it is necessary to fax it because payroll cut off is in 2 working days and the levy is causing extreme hardship.

  15. This has to be done by phone and immediately. The client is having 85% of his paycheck garnished each time. Responding to IRS letters takes 90 days to get a reply.. When I get a case like this, I call and get a 60 day full pay hold. That lifts the levy immediately and gives you time to resolve the issue.

  17. An I 2 core processor is a low end machine. Actually I didn't know they still sold computers with chips that old. Today an I 3 processor is considered a basic machine. You should probably get a computer with a I 5 CPU.

  18. I also checked it out, but as small business users, we do not qualify and will not be offered "extended paid support" Microsoft will only be offering "extended paid support" to corporate accounts etc. There are tech articles online which tell you how to "spoof" MS and move up a classification so that you can buy "extended paid support'!
