  1. I'm sorry, Darlene. Your mom, you, and your family will be in my prayers. Get extensions for your clients and go be with mom for as long as she is here.

  2. Darlene - we've followed you on the forum from time to time and perceive you to be an excellent lady, and that has an enormous passdown from your mother. Take whatever time you need to help her through this portal. This will not be the same as losing friends and acquaintances - you will not get up after the friends have gone and get back to business-as-normal living. You never get over losing someone this close - the only ease comes with learning to live with it. One thing that makes this easier to accept is it follows the natural order of life - the way God intended it. Members here really care for each other. I'll think of you this fall when I travel to Superior WI.

  3. Prayers for your mom and you and her whole medical team and your whole family. The next time someone else is with her, file all 80 extensions in one big batch to take 15 July off the table. If you complete 1 or 8 or 80, that's great. But, you don't have to complete any this month. Go talk to your mother &/or hold her hand.

  5. Oh Darlene, I am so sorry to hear this. As far as “should I go?” You will never regret going. You might regret not going, though. Her heart rate might go up before it slows down, yes. Just know that she can hear you. She can sense your presence. Tell her what a great job she’s done here and that you will be OK. Just keep reassuring her that God is waiting for her on the other side and that one day you will be together again. know that I am praying for you and for your mom, and of course the rest of your Tax family on this board. And may the peace that passes all understanding shower over you and your mother, and may she have a peaceful transition to Eternity. blessings, donna aka Possi

  6. I am so sorry, Darlene. I agree with everyone here. Your family comes first and everything else can wait. Spend as much time with her as you can, get extensions and take care of them when you are able. Hugs and prayers to you and your family. Bonnie

  7. Darlene, I echo everything Donna/Possi has said. If there is the smallest chance that she is still there when you arrive, go. Don't be circling the airport as I was. Work? Family is always, always first. You have just one mother. She needs you - you need her. Grace and peace, Margaret

  9. That sucks, I'm sorry. My mom is in the late stages of Parkinson's with dementia getting progressively worse. Death would be appealing at this point but she could last another 9 months.

  10. I feel ya.... two hours we will never get back... we could have been sipping Starbucks laced with Bailey's while eyeballing airline pilots in the lobby... Oh, for second chances.

  11. I've always liked the tax summary as it simplifies and condenses the return for folks. Honestly I've never carefully reviewed or confirmed the calculations, just skimmed over AGI and a couple of other numbers. But today a client called freaking out on looking at her return because the right side column had Total Income equaling the Deductions. She actually had negative AGI and standard deduction of $12,200 but the summary shows total income of $12,200. I looked at the master form to check the calculation but there is no access. Guess I have to let ATX super programmers know that there might be an error. I'm embarrassed it took this for me to find it. On the other hand, virtually none of my clients have negative income and with any positive income, it does work. It's always something.... and I am really tired of this season with still 9 footdraggers.

  12. This year was a Virginia State tax nightmare. Taxwise and the state did NOT play well with others. I spent a total of about 4 hours pointing out the errors with both entities, and even more time responding to letters from the state because of the software issues. I had glanced at the returns and pushed them through without actually READING every line, and boom! It was like an avalanche.

  14. This morning I would've left some school or church in central Appalachia in a van with another adult or college student plus five high school kids in a caravan with more than a dozen vans and meet up Sunday in CT with all 200+ people who just spent a week repairing homes. Appalachia Service Project is a relational ministry with a little home repair on the side! I miss it. My stepdaughter who brought me into ASP years ago with her next generation ASPer, son Everett:

  15. I will finally be telling procrastinators that they need to file an extension. The drips and drabs coming in now are driving me nuts. I'm a list driven person that schedules other projects in the off season after some minimal time in the office to clear up other work. I'd rather let those people get to me in October like they always do, when it fits my schedule, which is how it has always worked out, making the negative of procrastination a positive for me.

  16. So sorry Darlene, do your best to be with your mom. Your presence will be a comfort to her, hold her hand and speak to her, she will hear you. You are a good daughter. My thoughts and prayers are for you and mom and family. Bill

  17. I’m well, I think. Trying to do the normal things I do around this time of the year, which includes not checking in everyday because I’m away from the office and being busy. I’ve taken on some home projects, taking a bicycle repair course, and calling friends, especially those who live alone. Missing restaurants has gotten me back to cooking more and surprisingly lost a few pounds. Been cutting my own hair, getting long in the back and the long length in front is now covering my bald spot. When I go back for a haircut I will tell my stylist; don’t take this wrong but just follow what I did. Other than that doing my part to stay safe and contribute to getting this situation out of our lives. Stay safe and sane everyone, hang in there and remember that everyone’s contribution counts! One last thing, in honor of Carl Reiner I watched the documentary If You’re Not in the Obit, Have Breakfast. I highly recommend it, you will feel good after seeing it.

  24. so I said the other day 6/24 - as I took my 90 year old mom in for a uti and ER visit that took 6 hours I did not have and they said she was not sick enough to admit- After a week - took her into ER at another hospital and the Dr said she is sepsis and needs dialysis, kidneys failing I said don't die on me mom - I do not have time for this... I am planning her funeral- Took her off the blood pressure meds which were keeping it above 60 - it was at 69, 4 hours later - it went to 81? supposed to just keep going lower. So I guess it will not be hours but maybe days.- how long can you live without eating... I am home- some other family is there now - but after 8 pm - do I go back? Do I let her be alone overnight? My hubby said he would stay with her. I wanted to get about 80 done in 10 days yet.. At least I have a really good excuse.. Prayers please for her gentle passing and family. Darlene
