  1. A lot of jabs were made at her and I respected her for not jabbing back in most cases.
  2. Dentures, eyeglasses, and hearing aids are elective but allowed. Don't know if a big difference in price would make a difference or not. In times past, people would have a gold tooth put in their mouth. I'm quite sure that wouldn't be deductible.
  3. >>How about an "unlike" button and maybe after the post gets 10 unlikes it gets removed?<< I think that is an excellent idea. Maybe something less than 10 unlikes. Maybe 5.
  4. Thank you Judy, I will certainly look into that. The employee is a counter clerk at an auto parts store so there is no way that he can be an independent contractor. He only needs insurance through August and then he will go on medicare. I appreciate all the help.
  5. Thank you jshtax. Looks like this is exactly what I need. I am going to have to study up on HRAs and get this set up for my client. I really do appreciate this.
  6. I have a corporate client that has been paying half of medical insurance for an employee but will no longer be carrying company insurance. The employee has gotten insurance on his own and the employer wants to continue to pay half of the employees insurance. Is there any way this can be done without adding it to his gross? In addition to having to pay additional tax on the amount added to his check, the big problem is that he has taken early retirement and is limited to how much he can earn. Taking an early retirement is a BIG mistake for most people. I can't think of any way this can be done but hoping one of you might have an idea.
  7. Now that is a good idea. I need to set up an office in Hawaii.
  8. This will be my first year using Drake and so far it looks good. Last year I used TasSlayer and it was a nightmare. Their logic does not match my logic at all. I'm thinking about using their CWU. I am using Medlin at present and really like it but it can't be used on a network. I set up a network when my wife retired and is now working with me.
  9. If we don't pay the entire amount on one of those cards and only make the minimum payment, how do we know which items were paid and when?
  10. >>Who keeps track of your ITEX balance? What happens if that website folds?<< ITEX is the "banker". They keep track of everything. Of course they charge a fee for what they do. $30 per month plus 6% of your sales and 6% of your purchases for a total of 12%. I consider the 12% cost as a discount for new business. It is business I would most likely not get if I wasn't on ITEX. As for the company folding - I have been with them for about 10 years and they were strong when I started with them and they remain strong. They cover the US and Canada. Over the last 3 or 4 years, I have spent several thousand ITEX dollars with dentists that I would have otherwise had to spend cash. It has worked great for me.
  11. Tom, I belong to a barter club called ITEX that works like what you describe. I prepare a tax return for a member and he pays me with ITEX dollars. I can use those ITEX dollars to buy goods from other members. It does give me extra income but I am limited where I can spend it. It is a nationwide organization so there are quite a few condos available in vacation spots. There are several restaurants in my local area and there is a variety of goods and services that are available. One advantage is that I have very little competition on ITEX. Taxwise, it is the same as cash.
  12. >>make copies of these document and verifies that they aren't "false documents".<< How do you verify that they are not false documents?
  13. I don't know about other towns, but in my town a lot of the doctors are still staying in the medicare program but are simply not taking any new medicare patients. I know because my wife has called several doctors and every one of them stated that they are not taking any NEW medicare patients. The indication was that they are accepting new patients but not new medicare patients. I guess my choice is to stay with my present doctor who is excellent but keeps you waiting in the waiting room for 2 or 3 hours or find a new inexperienced doctor that is still trying to build a business.
  14. Apparently they are trying to expand their business and willing to take less money to do it. Some tax preparers are willing to take less money to expand their business.
  15. It has been quite a while since I looked at a J.K. Lassers book, but if I remember correctly, it is an exact copy of Pub 17 with a few pages added to the front and back. The IRS doesn't copyright anything they publish, or at least they didn't use to. It's a good way to get other people to do their printing for them.
  16. I wonder how many cases there have been where a parent transfers their house to a child and then the child gets sued for an automobile accident or whatever and the house is lost while the parent is still living. I wonder how many of those cases the child provides a place for the parent to live when the home is taken from them.
  17. There has been a good bit of discussion on the Drake Forum about this and the general consensus seems to be that the whole thing is a big mess and the best way to handle it is to show proper filing status and list exemptions as zero. It seems the difference in withholding is not worth the effort required in filling out the form. I don't do any North Carolina returns, so my knowledge on this is not first hand.
  18. I'm way ahead of you guys. I have been doing this from the beginning.
  19. >> the lowest average cost-per-shot<< That is a GREAT way to look at it. Might as well get your money's worth.
  20. I'm right handed and I used to do that. It's not really that hard to learn to use your left hand for the mouse. The only problem I remember was that when others used my computer, it was difficult for them. As I remember, when the I.T. guy would remote in on the computer, it was a slight problem for him. I really don't remember why I quit. I may go back to doing that.
  21. >> I had a "new" business that only sold one product a month<< If that product is battleships, I'd say that was a pretty good business. I knew a man that went out of business because he lost one client, his only client, Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. He made cardboard pallets for them. EDIT: I should have said customer - not client.
  22. I don't see how a touch screen can be feasible on a desktop computer. My monitor sits on the back of my desk which is where I suppose most people place their monitors. To reach across my desk to touch the screen would be awkward for me.
