  1. Thanks for the replies. I just found Outlook on W10. It seems to be quite different than the previous Outlook but it does look like I can have multiple folders. It has gotten to the point that I think I actually spend more time getting my equipment to work properly than I spend doing actual work. This may very well be my last year preparing taxes, especially since I have recently taken over the additional duties of being a pastor of a small church.
  2. "At least when you spilled a cup of water on a horse, he didn't stop working." ...and you didn't have to replace him every 2 or 3 years.
  3. Thanks for enlightening me. Seems I need a lot of that lately.
  4. Microsoft says that all your files will be right where you left them. In my case that was not true. They were scattered all over the place. Emails that I had saved in different folders were GONE since W10 does not support multiple folders except for the 7 or 8 regular folders (in box, out box, sent, bulk, etc). My internet service has been hiccuping lately and it might have flickered during the download. I don't know if that had anything to with it or not. I have found that I can move the emails I want to keep to the bulk file and do a search for what I want by putting the client's name in the search box. I may just have to change the way I do things. That isn't too easy at age 79. Overall, I think I will like W10 once I get everything straightened out. I am beginning to hate technology. The horse and buggy days might not have been so bad after all.
  5. Yes, I was using Outlook I have always used whatever came with the OS and it has been satisfactory until now.
  6. I recently upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10 and some things I like and some I don't like. Windows 10 is very fast. The biggest problem I have so far is the email. I had many folders that I saved email in. One for each accounting client and one for each each tax client that I received emails from as well as other folders. With windows 10, I haven't found a way to set up additional folders. Am I missing something? A google search shows that apparently windows 10 does not allow this. I searched for software that does allow it and haven't found anything that mentions multiple folders. Surely I'm not the only one that stores email in organized folders. Have any of you found a solution to this or software that will handle multiple folders? It seem like the more I learn, the less i know. I'm getting to where I'm afraid to learn anything else.
  7. That last sentence caught me by surprise.
  8. Medlin software is simple, low cost, and VERY GOOD. Go to medlin.com and click on products. Medlin can not be used on a network, but for small clients, it probably won't matter.
  9. >>And many of them use the stipend on things for the play or cast anyway.<< And if it is on schedule C they can probably deduct these items.
  10. I like this new math. Maybe I'll stay in the tax business after all.
  11. I have a cousin that resets his clocks 2 or 3 days ahead of time. He is never late for anything.
  12. How do you pet a porcupine? Very, very carefully.
  13. >>If the cost of the sales tax makes the software unaffordable, you are shopping in the wrong department, or need a class in business budget management. .<< I paid $43.08 to Drake for sales tax. It did not make it unaffordabel, but I do not like to pay tax that I do not owe. According to the reference, in Alabama it is taxable if it is canned but not taxable if it is custom software. What determines if it is canned or custom? This just shows the complexity of collecting sales tax on items sold on the internet.
  14. I think anyone can take the HRB course if they pay for it. They then hire the ones that do the best in the course.
  15. You just made me realize that I am a druggie.
  16. If child support is spent for rent, utilities, food, etc. it is also for the children. It provides a comfortable home for the children.
  17. The ERO is with the individual. Both tax preparers need to have ERO designation.
  18. Thanks guys. Looks like I have been blaming the wrong culprit. At least now I know what the problem is and have a better idea how to handle it.
  19. I have seen where some have said that windows 8 is a very stable OS. My wife and I both have laptops with 8.1. They are VERY unstable. You can be typing in one place and end up typing somewhere else completely or even in a different program that happens to be open at the same time. It jumps around from one program to another on its own. Is this normal for 8.1, or did we both happen to get hold of a bad system? One laptop is an HP and the other is a Dell, purchased at different times. I sure would hate to attempt to do a tax return on 8.1.
  20. I just got a notice from the Alabama Department of Revenue that starting in 2016, 2015 W2s have to be submitted by 1-31-2016. I imagine that it won't be long before other states will follow suit.
