Interesting question, the exemption is for the whole year correct? So, I would assume that if you filed after June 30th, 2013, you should be OK for the whole 2014. Certificate is only issue by the exchange, correct?

I honestly thought that if someone made less than 40K with 2 kids, the penaty would be $95 per head. So for a single person making less than 19k, the penalty will be $95 but for someone making $20,200 it will be $100?
-
I thought the maximum penalty per person was $95 for 2014.
-
I thought that a family of 3 with 20K income could check unaffordable and be exempted. I guess no one is exempted based on income.
-
Open the form and then go to part III (I think)... pull down each name and check each month they don't have insurance. While doing that, you will get a huge penalty but it will be 95 per head when you are ready to close it. Don't click on the exemption box (yes no).

I just signed for the Marathon that takes places on April 15th every year.

That's 98% of my clients. (not the smoke part).

I tried to correct... I meant to say that because I prepared the return, I will signed it. BUT I wanted to over emphasized that I felt strong about the return I prepared.. but after I read it sound that there are returns I don't sign. The only return I don't sign in any shape or form is mine.

Now that we are on agreement, I would like to point two things. 1.- I like that example that you married someone at 11:59PM on December 2014. Unless you don't care people seeing you and are very quick, you will not consummate your marriage and you will NOT live in the same household at any point in 2014. BUT according to the law you will be married at end of 2014 and therefore you will have to file as MFJ and MFS. 2.- You tell this lady that she must file MFJ or MFS and show her the door. She comes to me and I asked her "Were you married at any point in 2014?", she says NO. Do you have any children living with you? yes. Do you support them? yes. Is the support more than 50%? yes.... blabla bla. At the end of my conversation and 300 worksheets, I say to her "You qualify for HOH". Let me prepare your return and I will put my signature on it because I feel very comfortable with the return I have prepared for you. End result, IRS gets ripped off, Janitor Bob looses a client, I gain a client and feel very strong about the return I prepared. What will happen? 1.- The return never gets audited. Client is happy with me and pissed at Janitor Bob. 2.- The return is audited. IRS finds out she is married and ask her to return the money and some interest. Is the punishment fair for that Tax Payer? Isn't it too little punishment?

If you do these work sheets, it will always be affordable, correct? That's because if the price for insurance is higher or the income is lower, then the credit is higher to the point that it will be free (medicare), correct?
-
If they married in prior to June 25 and the circumstances would be the same, I would feel somewhat uncomfortable to file as HOH but I would do it. In this case I would not feel comfortable at all to file as HOH and I would lose that client and suggest to go somewhere else.

Virginia will be the easiest PY return you have prepared. It is piece of cake. If in doubt, post the figures and we will help you.

Because of the fact that they got married in November, I wouldn't file as HOH but that's me. I guess I will take it back. Let's say that they met in Las Vegas, at 3 PM and they started playing and drinking.... then they went out to drink more and then they got married around 11PM and then they went to bed and they were so drunk that they didn't consummate the marriage... the next day each one woke up and found out that they made a mistake... I would file her as HOH. If on the other hand, their family knew they were going to get married and they posed as married to each other among their friends, and they have consummated their marriage, I would file as MFJ or MFS. I wonder if she ever calls his base and when they ask her "who are you?" I wonder if she says "I am his wife". I also wonder if tomorrow this guy gets killed if she is going to go after some type of money.

For DC, I only request the full amount that was withheld. Since DC residents don't pay taxes to VA, no credit involved.

EIC credit check box (not real life but it happens all the time)

Let's rule out children 2 and 5 because they are the qualifying children of their parents. So between child 1 or 6, I would suggest that child 6 gets the exemption for child 3. This is the list of tie breaker. Mother father child 6 -
Don't forget that this young lady provided or NOT provided more than 50% of her own support based on the circumstances. That's why I like to do both returns. If she is a dependent, remember to add her income when using the exemptions on the parents return. I wonder if the box on line 61 of 1040 gets grey out when someone is filing as a dependent (I doubt it).

ATX could have the feature but if your printer doesn't support duplex printing, you will not be able to print duplex.

When did she turn 19? Is she completely and permanently disabled?

No news is good news. I installed before I got the email and I have no issues.

You charge them for their mistakes, correct? Amend and charge them.... after all it is not your fault.

Daughter and her child will no longer get free health insurance. Not only that, this is the time to show what you made in 2014 and since your parents supported you, they will have to return some money to the exchange.

Protection plus is a rip off. I also feel that RALS is a rip off.
-
He said that if you want to have other little issues down the road when updates occur, you can customize the master form. After a second thought, it might not be a bad idea since form 1040 EF info changes only on blue moons. I am happy to check decline.

I never even mention it to my clients because it is a rip off. I don't collude to rip off my clients and that's why I don't do RALS or sell protection.
