  1. I am going to fund an endowment for Boykin Spaniel Rescue with a portion of the proceeds. The rest is going into savings. I don't need a new car (my 2007 Volvo wagon is still going strong). My house is inherited and paid for. I will splurge on first class airfare when the situation calls for it (overseas flights for example). I will set up an annual gifting program to my sons, grandchildren, nieces and great niece and great nephew.
  2. Max, the invitation to renew 'early' was provided to a select number of PTIN holders, not to all. I have no idea what criteria the IRS based their selection process on; I was not invited to renew 'early', and in fact don't plan to renew until early December. By then I expect the kinks in their system to be worked out.
  3. From what I've seen on other FB groups, Puerto Rico requires those who prepare Puerto Rico returns to be specifically certified (not sure what their designation is called). J. Stephen Odom, EA in FL is suitably certified and prepares Puerto Rico returns. If you are an NAEA member you can contact him via the NAEA webboard (online forum); otherwise a google search may yield his contact information.
  4. The SSA should have shown the repayment amount; there's a box for that and they failed to properly report the repayments. I agree the client needs to go in person to the SSA office with all repayment documentation to get the SSA1099 corrected and reissued. Or is the net amount in box 5 correct?
  5. Perhaps there's a corrected 1099-SSA floating around somewhere. If the only two payments received were the January and February, and these were both repaid in the same year, then SSA-1099 should have reflected that. Taxpayer may need to go to SSA office and talk with them about this, providing proof of his repayments.
  6. Ask to see the 2016 SSA-1099 which should show benefits paid in Box 3 $3,536.00, repayments in Box 4 ($3,536.00) and net benefits in Box 5 -0-.
  7. If any of you are NAEA a members, the July/August 2018 issue of EA Journal, has an article written by David Fogel, EA, USTCP, on the 199A deduction. Now that the regs. are out I plan to re-read his article.
  8. How were the trucks titled? If to the S corp the sale is on the S corp return. If to the deceased on the estate income tax return. The deceased' sow ership ends day of death (or is it day after?), so if he was the only S/h there will be 2 k-1's - one for 1/1-daate of death and the second to the estate day after death to 12/31. Hope this helps.
  9. Here in Louisiana I think the court allows for costs up to 50 cents a page.
  10. All ya'll have a great time !!! I look forward to seeing your photo's video's, etc.
  11. I saw it this morning reported on my CCH app. I am not holding my breath.
  12. John, as far as I know, yes, NC returns that we've been holding may now be completed.
  13. Thanks, Judy. I talked with NC PPL, who assured me that form updates are not required due to the recent conformity to IRC as of 2/8/18.
  14. NC EA's - does NC have an e-file help desk for tax pro's? In light of the recently announced conformity to the IRC as of 2/8/18 I wonder if NC will be updating its 2017 forms. Thanks,
  15. My invoice states a $25 fee will be assessed for any item returned by the bank. Hmmm, maybe time to increase that !!!
  16. I am in the New Orleans area, so far removed from Dustin. Thanks, CATHERINE
  17. Amending the prior returns (via the previous preparer) is NOT the right way to do this. Do the form 3115 . Just . do . it .......
  18. Yes, if there is a positive adjustment, if the amount is under $25,000 (I think that is the magic number) taxpayer may elect to include it in one year, otherwise spread the 481(a) adjustment over 4 tax years. This is in the 3125 instructions
  19. Remember, too, that the charity is not supposed to state a value of the goods donated. It is the donor's job to do that.
  20. No, you are not alone. Every year I feel something similar to an extent, I have to re-learn how to have a life outside of the office, and have come up with a schedule to get back to some semblance of 'normal.' My plans include being off every Friday, starting tomorrow. Every Friday off I have a household job to tackle. Tomorrow's job is to clean the laundry room and dryer vent. One of my dogs is really itchy with the oak pollen so he needs a soothing medicated bath . I have not been on my bicycle since early January so will ease back into that Saturday for a short bike ride. Another Friday I need to defrost the drain lines on both my refrigerator and freezer. The closets in the spare bedroom, my late mother's room, need another cleaning. I have new gardens that need weeding, (big sigh ... ).
  21. Don't forget to inquire of foreign accounts for possible FBAR filing for 2018.
  22. My son (my assistant) and I went out for Japanese . He had sushi and I had hibachi shrimp and broccoli.
  23. It will create filing copies but alas you still have to go into each and every return to click on the efiling boxes, etc and make sure the $ amounts are what you want. I do them one.by.one as I initially open the return. Not a quick and easy method
