The people that designed and chose the SSA-1099 format size and those stupid "tear this side off first" type configurations. -

Proceeds from sale of primary residence

Agree 100% with OldJack. Put it on Sched D. Total exclusion. The old method of keeping track of all improvements is still what everyone remembers. Just like "I think we can just do short form this year." -

Just do the 12.13 update. It will include all the former updates. -
I bought a tube of black touchup paint from the automotive store. I "paint" the low toner ports. Problem solved. I get about 1,500 extra pages from an "empty" toner.

Do it. Do it OUTSIDE the program. I have only good things to report. -

Good reports from the firm and my domain server!! Seems that all functions are faster. The search function in Return manager especially. Rollovers, opening returns all seem faster. I think they put the screen showing progress to keep people from forcing the progam to close, increasing the bad files etc. More news as the other people here report in. It even seems to work better on the one remaining XP machine. -
I have refilled over 100 laser toner carts. No explosions or even big leaks. Brother brand is the way to go!!

The IRS would have accepted them last year, but ATX did not update the 2009 program to do so. The 2010 program, after updating, should allow 2010 to be e-filed this year, if the returns met MEF standards. I was able to efile 2010 returns last tax season. Going forward, only three years will be able to be e-filed. Current and the two previous. I don't know where I read that, but it was from the IRS.

We just had a child's amend for this reason get processed in 3 weeks...

I do my own and have all Brother printers in my office and the firm's office. 3 printers and a fax machine all use the same cart at the firm. Refill toner $10 per. A little messy, but even the refilled carts from companies are many times as expensive. I even replace the rollers in the drum assemblies. Replacement roller $25. New replacement drum $140-$180. Same amount of life from the replacement as the original. Brother printers! Get yours today and save on toner!!!

I do not accept credit cards at my home business, but I offer to send a PayPal invoice, and it seems that everyone has a PayPal account.

How is it that I have successfully e-file 5 personal and 2 corporate 2011 returns this tax season? Check your information again mrichman.

We use Brother brand and I refill toners that cost $89 new, for only $12. We get 5,000 pages per refill. Each toner cart will refill 3 times before it wears out. BTW, pages that the toner will print is figured with only 5% of the page covered. We get 5,000 out of a cart rated at 8,000. But with me refilling them (a 5-10 min operation) we save hundreds.

Who provides the houshold? I am not sure father can claim EIC.

Closing the program through task manager adds to the corrupt files being created in backup. The program runs a backup each time you close the program. You should close the program once an hour. Watch task manager like joanmcq said. Be patient. Shutting down the computer causes the same destructive program shutdown.

A simple phone call from them could have netted an extension... No excuse. Even with medical issues, someone could have made a 5 minute phone call.

There is no exception. I have a client that was in exactly the same situation, only the 1099R had code "L" in box 7, and to penalty was calculated. CP2000 says otherwise, and the code should have been "L1" instead.

I did read it. Were you cut off from using the program?

Are you standalone, peer-to-peer or a domain network?

These are the points that would have to be supported in an audit situation. You do not need to have positive answers to ALL to be considered a business, but you would need a majority of them to be positive answers to support your activities as a business... From the IRS... Is your hobby really an activity engaged in for profit? In general, taxpayers may deduct ordinary and necessary expenses for conducting a trade or business or for the production of income. Trade or business activities and activities engaged in for the production of income are activities engaged in for profit. The following factors, although not all inclusive, may help you to determine whether your activity is an activity engaged in for profit or a hobby: Does the time and effort put into the activity indicate an intention to make a profit? Do you depend on income from the activity? If there are losses, are they due to circumstances beyond your control or did they occur in the start-up phase of the business? Have you changed methods of operation to improve profitability? Do you have the knowledge needed to carry on the activity as a successful business? Have you made a profit in similar activities in the past? Does the activity make a profit in some years? Do you expect to make a profit in the future from the appreciation of assets used in the activity? An activity is presumed for profit if it makes a profit in at least three of the last five tax years, including the current year (or at least two of the last seven years for activities that consist primarily of breeding, showing, training or racing horses). If an activity is not for profit, losses from that activity may not be used to offset other income. An activity produces a loss when related expenses exceed income. The limit on not-for-profit losses applies to individuals, partnerships, estates, trusts, and S corporations. It does not apply to corporations other than S corporations.

So if we have e-filed 2,000+ we are SOL on getting a refund, despite the program costing us time, money and certainly customers this year and next?

I was also told that there were 1,000 copies of the beta version sent to preparers in October. I have no viable information or evidence to support such a claim.
