  1. Please keep me/us informed. We have too many clients to risk losing return information again by a major snafu by an update.
  2. I am not certain that is correct, unless the scholarship is specifically designated to be income. Federal and School grants and scholarships DO NOT get included on line 7 if they are more than the tuition. The moneys can be spent for other college related expenses.
  3. The amount of expenses avaialable for consideration of Education Tax credits are the amounts paid for tuition and fees in 2012 MINUS any amounts in box 5. There are times when box 2 does not accurately reflect tuition and fees PAID in 2012. The safest method is to use a billing statement from the college to verify dates and amounts of payments.
  4. Still waiting on a report from someone on a domain server.... On my standalone at my home business, 12.12 sped up most things but slowed down the print function populating when I open it. Slower by a factor of 4. So, I call it a draw. No win, no loss. I wonder how many of the phone technicians have quit due to stress and high blood pressure....
  5. Your backup file is not involved in opening or working on returns. Your backup file is not dependable. Trust me or not. If you have to ever reinstall the program depending upon the backup file will cause you to wail long and loud when you try to restore. 1st hand experience on this one.
  6. All grants and scholarships are counted, even ones from the college. Get the detailed breakdown of the billing for 2012. If grants and scholarships are larger than the amounts billed for tuition & fees and the books, there is no deduction.
  7. Those phishing scams get a 7% response on average.
  8. I thought this discussion board was in all English??
  9. He listed me and 3 other preparers he interviewed in his farewell letter to his clients. I offered to purchase his practice, but he said he just wanted to refer his people to qualified tax accountants. I will send him a percentage of the new business I have developed as a thank you gift when season is over. He had been a preparer for 48 years and decided he was done.
  10. I renewed in May 2012. My CC company will not do anything for me. Very rarely will a CC company act on a complaint if it has been more than 90 days. I will add my name to the class action suit as soon as it is filed. I may only get $5, but the message will be sent.
  11. If that were the case, why was SS & Medicare withheld?
  12. When you jump from one of the boxes on the Sched D, 8949 will automatically open.
  13. I have acquired 60+ new clients from a local preparer that has retired after 48 years. Probably will be over 100 before season ends.
  14. I was asking for 60% discount. I have my doubts if there will even be the option to purchase for next year. I would only accept the 40% price to have a backup (now there is a mind numbing concept...) program when I find something in my new program I cannot do.
  15. I received my EFIN and 5 ETINs in 1997 Efiled directly to the IRS with a phone modem. I could transmit a dozen returns and get all available acks in a one minute phone call. I sure do miss DOS!!
  16. Agree, and the amount is not unusual. Compare that to approx $80K to stay in a nursing home.
  17. This is my quandry. The LTD is from the same company as the STD. However, without the W-2, I am not sure if the same info will work. I just love how payroll departments are so eager to take care of workers!! What would be the worst that could happen if I use the info from the STD W-2?
  18. Client's wife has been on disability pay (from an insurance company) for all of 2012. First six months was short term and she received a W-2. Second six months was long term disability and the insurance company nor her employer will issue a W-2 for it. She has talked to both. Insurance company states it is the employer's responsibility to issue the W-2. Employer payroll person said.. "I'm not gonna mess with that. (Clearly the payroll department needs some improvement in attitude) She has last pay stub from the Long Term Disability payments. SS & Medicare have been withheld. How would you put this income on the tax return?
  19. I have not installed 12.12 at the firm on the network. I have installed it here at home on my standalone. So far, no hitches or glitches. More info after the full day I have ahead of me. Film at 11:00
  20. Mr. Unger, You have a lot of nerve or fear for your job. The only way I will purchase any of your software for tax year 2012 will be at 40% of the price I paid for 2012. If you cannot get this approved, then your company will get $0 from me. Save your long winded speel about apologies and "upcoming better things in store." Your 2012 softward cost my firm thousands of dollars, and even worse, it cost us dearly in "confidence in our ability to provide professional and timely service" to our clients. This will continue to cost our firm for years. I think my offer at 40% is far more than proper as you are probably scrambling to find ANYONE who will purchase your 2013 product at ANY price. Disgruntled, long time ATX user who had disliked CCH since they swallowed up ATX. Jack from Ohio.
  21. The IRS
  22. If you are not manually exporting all your client files, your data is not secure. Backing up files created by ATX2012 only backs up files that are corrupted and not dependable.

    SLOW

WIN7 64 bit, 4-8Gb RAM, Netframework 4.5, no toolbar programs, all current Windows updates, no "internet security suite" software are just a few things that make ATX2012 work as smoothly as possible.
  24. Reluctantly, I do not share your optimism about ATX even being around for next year.
  25. Do NOT do 12.11. So far 12.12 has been good for me, but 12.11 was a disaster for the network. Wait and see what happens before doing anything. If you do 12.12, it will do/fix all that 12.11 would have done.
