  1. How can that be the issue when page 4 of the 8867 is not included with the e-file?
  2. What to Expect for Refunds in 2013 The IRS issued more than 9 out of 10 refunds to taxpayers in less than 21 days last year. The same results are expected in 2013. Even though the IRS issues most refunds in less than 21 days, it’s possible your tax return may require additional review and take longer. Use Where’s My Refund? to Check the Status of Your Refund. Where’s My Refund? has a new look for 2013! The tool will include a tracker that displays progress through 3 stages: (1) Return Received, (2) Refund Approved and (3) Refund Sent. You will get personalized refund information based on the processing of your tax return. The tool will provide an actual refund date as soon as the IRS processes your tax return and approves your refund. Remember, most refunds will be issued in less than 21 days. In 2013 you will be able to start checking on the status of your return sooner - within 24 hours after we have received your e-filed return or 4 weeks after you mail a paper return. http://www.irs.gov/Refunds/What-to-Expect-for-Refunds-in-2013

    Rehang

The "rehang" button is to put the ack back in the system for your computer to read again. It will NOT change the return or resubmit it. It is only to make sure your computer info matches ATX information.
  4. On hold from 8:10 AM to 12:10 PM. Talked to the technician for an hour. I have a good understanding now of how to install and operate in a network environment. It is essentially the same as the previous 4 years of ATX. I was hoping for better. I will, between the rush of season here, post on the "take notes" thread, the proper procedure, in a server based network system, to uninstall and reinstall the program and updates. None of the information I gleaned was ever listed or printed in any knowlegebase or tech bulletin. I fear that we are being forced to change for 2013 because I doubt the ability of ATX to survive this sunami. I am spending several hours this Sunday evening to completely rework our system. We are at 898 clients now, and restoring will take at least 1 1/2 hours by itself. Suffice it to say, when I followed these protocols in the previous 4 years, we had almost zero issues with our network. The fact that ATX2012 is only slightly workable with WINXP caught me offguard. Getting quotes on 4 new workstations with SSD, 8GB RAM and WIN7 PRO 64bit.
  5. Quote from ATX... "ATX software is not designed nor supported to be used or run on server software." This information was given to me yesterday, 2-21-13 by tech support. You are asking the program to do something is is/was not ever intended to do. Stick with the way it is designed. I thought the new software would not be this way, bit it is. All installation and work is to be done from a workstation, using the server as a file server only. This too from the tech support technician. Trying to use remote server/terminal server will never function correctly. The search for next year's tax software has begun...
  6. All 6 people are using ATX2012 preparing returns at the same time from a central server.
  7. We currently have 6 workstations actively using the program on our server concurrently.
  8. Oh how I love it when you talk dirty.....
  9. Update your program. Both have been available for e-file since Feb. 16.
  10. When the program closes (other than crashing) it runs a backup program. As long as the backup program is running, you cannot open the program again on that workstation. Patience....
  11. The Modernized e-File system is experiencing delays in generating acknowledgements that requires the IRS to bring the production system down for a period of time. Effective at 7:00 pm, Eastern tonight, please refrain from accessing the MeF production system to transmit submissions, get acknowledgements, retrieve state submissions, send state acknowledgements or submit any other service requests. We will issue a QuickAlert when the MeF production system is operational again and we apologize in advance for any inconvenience caused.
  12. Check that the college EIN is entered on the input screen. Had 3 today where it was omitted. E-filed fine, and Fed Rejected it.
  13. Do you mean "wonkier?" Hope that made you laugh!! I am eternally wonky, nutso, strange, unusual, different.... The list goes on and on..... Which pdf program do you use? Does it allow you to delete and/or move pages before printing?
  14. Finally reached a tech. Much information to share. When I get home, I have some answers for network users.
  15. Please copy that post and post it here. I refuse to go to the other board. It could help many people. There is a thread in the "Software Issues" forum titled "Take Notes." Post it there please.
  16. DITTO! Both Jacks agree on this one!!
  17. Why Google when they can get the answers from you with little or no work on their part. I stopped helping the "Do It Yourself" friends and only give them answers to general tax questions. I also just give enough of an answer to get them confused even more.
  18. Still waiting on answers about the FAM folder error. That is the huge issue now. Since switching to WIN7 PRO on the workstations and installing 12.9, we have the occasional program close and system resouce issue. Between 12.8 & 12.9 about 25 returns developed this error and another 10 simply disappeared out of the program. Rollover still requires some to be opened in 2011 first, but we are doing that a day early as we can. I fear for the existence of CCH and ATX for next tax season.
  19. That error means simply what it says. Someone filed a return using the dependent's SS# and claiming him as a dependent. Most often it is a teenager or college student using turbo-tax and claiming themselves. Other possibilities are the other parent in a divorced or separated situation claiming the child. check those possibilities. 99% of the ones I see with this error are one of the situations above.
  20. From the IRS... Subject: E-filing Form 8863, Education Credits We have observed instances in which the Form 8863, Education Credits, attached to the Form 1040 and 1040A is not completed correctly. These instances are causing downstream processing delays. We have experienced the following two conditions: (1) The Form 8863 Part III Line 25 Yes or No checkboxes are not completed when required and (2) The Form 8863 Part III Line 26 Yes or No checkboxes are not completed when required. The Form 8863 instructions direct the taxpayer to: If you checked “Yes” on Line 24 go to line 25. Line 25 Check “Yes” if the student completed the first 4 years of postsecondary education before 2012. Otherwise, check “No.” If you checked “No,” go to line 26. If you checked “Yes,” the student is not eligible for the American Opportunity Credit; skip lines 26 through 30 and go to line 31. Line 26 Check “Yes” if the student was convicted, before the end of 2012, of a federal or state felony for possession or distribution of a controlled substance. If you checked “No,” complete either lines 27 through 30 or line 31 for this student. If you checked “Yes,” the student is not eligible for the American Opportunity Credit; skip lines. We are working to implement Business Rules to reject these incorrectly completed returns and have not determined the date for these new Business Rules. In the interim, we request that software packages be modified to require completion of the correct boxes on lines 25 and 26 when appropriate. Additionally the appropriate checkboxes should be completed for lines 23 and 24. Also please communicate this information to the practitioner community to avoid delays in processing returns.
  21. What about all the personal information, kids names, SS#, birthdates, W-2 info, 1099R info, sched C info, etc that would be converted. If you were to enter every one of your clients from scratch, you would change your mind quickly.
  22. Questions: Initial installation in a network cannot be from the server itself? So it needs to be installed via a workstation to the mapped drive on the server? Are you referring to the program installation or the NetSetup installation on the workstations? This was an issue with 2008-2011 because the ATX program was not compatible with netframework-4 on servers, so all had to be done through workstations. I have not seen any indication in any information about 2012 not being server friendly. Please elabroate. This could be saving grace news.
  23. This is why I do not worry....
  24. One semester of my kids' college cost me far more than enough to max out AOC. You only get 4 years, so it did not make a difference. Who gets a semester of college including books and required materials for less than $4,000?
