  1. Thanks for the reminder, I better get back to work now.
  2. We just had an update, #7. I always mark returns complete when done to prevent any changes from updates, at least I think that's how it works.
  3. So, they (ATX) are telling us the out of state tax credits being automatically populated on home state is a temporary feature only to continue if we buy Advantage? Would they do that to us? I remember back with ATX2012 trying to do the first of those returns with 11 states, TP was a resident of NC and ATX would only accept 3 states for NC's TC form. Had to use pencil and paper for the rest and combine them. Maybe it was good I had so much trouble with the program stopping and stalling. It was a sign to extend and use another program if only for mental health reasons.
  4. There have been a few. They even have a pinned thread to post stack traces when the program freezes up and needs to be re started. Some have said their rollover manager disappeared. Server not starting is another pain, happens to me if computer is off at night. Granted, much of it could not be ATX's fault, but since 2012 happened I've gotten a little nervous when I have a quirk or hiccup.
  5. Back in 2013 when I was trying to do the first of those returns I couldn't get past a few states without slowing to a crawl, crashing and depreciation problems. I'm sure I could do them now with ATX but I think the PPR which costs me $279 and $35 for each return is more like an insurance policy for me, or maybe I should say a security blanket. The 2 returns are big and I'm well compensated so I don't mind the extra cost. This year I have had only minor problems but there are a few people on the other board with more serious problems.
  6. Insane is a good word for it. Since the 2012 debacle I took advantage of the ProSeries free offer to file extensions and the returns after 4/15 as I had 2 returns with 11 states that ATX2012 could not handle, a very frustrating time in our lives as we all know. I have purchased PS PPR for those 2 returns every year since and while I'm happy with the program I do like ATX better, maybe because I go back to the Sabre days and breaking up is hard to do. Now I'll have that song in my head all night.
  7. As long as the old SEP allows it she would be able to make regular IRA contributions as well as catch ups. I had a sole proprietor who had a SEP (so no problem with allowing regular IRA contributions), closed the business and continued to use the SEP as her IRA. I had confirmed this with I think it was an IRS publication. Your situation may be a little different being it's a large company with a SEP custodian that will only accept money from employees. I'm afraid I might not be telling you anything new here.
  8. I seem to get one every couple of weeks, not so much for PTIN, but the ones saying "Here is my 1040 info" and other variations with Google Drive mentioned.
  9. See a dentist. You probably have dermatitis on your finger, Doc will write you an RX for Desonide ointment. Get on a stretching routine for your back. Eat organic dark cherries and take turmeric twice a day for early arthritis. You'll be good to go in no time at all. I'm not a doctor, just got a good night's sleep last night.

I have many old...sorry, longtime clients who are well trained by me to send a fairly complete package every year. But it is their kids, the 20, and the 30 somethings who year after year send me such a disorganized mess, missing docs, and with round numbers in the 100s or 1000s, and after multiple phone calls (they hate talking on the phone that's why I call) and e mails (their preference) it takes forever to get their file out of the rack. One even forgot to tell me they had a baby, after I congratulated him, which I found out from the grandparent. Makes me crazy, thank goodness for Motrin.
  11. Harry and David, you must really be appreciated by this client. You have enough there to share with 47 of your colleagues, or am I California Dreamin'
  12. In 2014 and '15 I had two oil execs with huge W2s, but with offsetting non passive K1 losses. Both refunds were over 200K. Refunds took a little longer probably for a routine verification but they were paid with no problems, so far anyway. And this thread started with $2.77, now that's compounding thoughts.
  13. Very interest-ing. More than he would get in a bank these days.
  14. Saw the severity of the storm on the news last night. Hope everyone stayed safe and the disruption of daily lives is over quickly. Also, if you are even thinking about going out to shovel remember this, you've been behind a desk for 2 months, so be really careful. Now where are those neighborhood kids with the shovels?
  15. Time to get out the heavy equipment. Bigger coffee mug, industrial pencil sharpener, heavier paper clips, and those big pocket folders. Extra strength Tylenol wouldn't hurt either.
  16. Hi Debbie,

I see I rec'd a message from you back in 2014 but I was inactive then, so recently responded to you mistakenly thinking you were someone else, so sorry for that.

I probably know you from the official board, there is more than one Debbie over there.

Again, very sorry and thank you for reaching out and telling me about this feature.  Hope your season is going well, I'm ready for a break.

    Take care,

    Bill

  17. Years ago I had a girlfriend who was a massage therapist. When I would pick her up she would say "I have to go home and wash the people off me". Maybe that could apply to our profession. I always wonder how some people's documents become so colorful with paint splash design. PS. Never did get a massage out of her....and I did her tax return!
  18. Great to know you are both out there, one of the features that makes this place special. While I only do a handful of simple S Corps where something might come up, may I offer in return that I can fix your watch or bicycle, and cook you a 5 alarm chili.
  19. Still, looks fairly neat to me, all papers, folders, and cups geometrically correct. Where's the magnifying glass, or do you not need one?
  20. Yes it is, for non occupational disability.
  21. This painting reminds me of one I remember years ago that made an impression on me. It was titled Primal Scream, and I think it's BHoffman's. It shows the anxiety and panic that only makes the misery worse...Oh God, now I don't feel so good.
  22. Ah yes, "the hipster underwear taxpayer strategy". Happens to me at least once a year. Taxpayer slips in a flattering (size), popular, functional and colorful 3 pak, trying to gain your generosity in calculating their tax liability. IRS knows all about it and they have sent out briefs on the subject to warn us to not get boxed in by this ploy.
  23. This can be a little involved, as I did one last year with different circumstances. I used as guidance www.tax-business.com/201302.html, very helpful. There was probably an appraisal done when the home went into the life estate. If the sibling who purchased the home lived in it as a personal residence that will help matters, on your part.
  24. I like www.taxadmin.org/state-tax-agencies And BTW, I love all of you, don't know what I'd do without you. Like a former life of mine, sitting around the kitchen table in a ghetto firehouse....there's no problem we can't solve. Now here, still putting out fires and finding our way through the smoke, and depending on each other. You don't find that kind of comraderie everywhere. You're the best. Bill
