    ATX 12.18

I had 28 updates to Win 7 when I shut down last night. I have had some odd stuff going on also. Seems much better today.

    ATX 12.18

As I am working on extensions in the 2012 program, I am finding several improvements and enhancements in the 12.18 upgrade. FYI, so far, my creation and filing has been pretty flawless and without incident. I hadn't realized before how many changes had been made to the final version. Of course, this is coming from a Win7 64 bit, standalone system; which never did have the massive issues that others had.
  4. Click on his picture. The second tab over says "Send me a message". Click on that and type your message and send.
  5. Orthopedic Doc said I should be 100% by Halloween. He should know because he operated on this injured shoulder in 2005. I really do appreciate all the concern and good wishes. Now, if clients would just quit interrupting my beta testing! Yes, it was a huge scare for my family. Not so much what happened, but what could have happened. I never have been one to sit around. Am used to doing things for myself. Went blackberry picking Sunday with my arm in the sling.
  6. Here, too. Possible frost on Thursday. Really crazy weather.
  7. Because I took a tumble backwards down my Granddaughter's basement steps when we were getting things ready for her baby shower. I've been reading all the posts, but not commenting much. It turns out that I am fine. Saw my Orthopedic Dr today and the shoulder we thought was separated is just bruised. Aside from a very variegated right side and some minor aches and pains, I am OK. I am also aware of how blessed I am as things could have turned out so very much worse. Today I got to throw away the sling so I can type decently. Just in time for the first day of beta testing. I am very happy to be here and able to look forward to another tax season. I don't expect you all to comment or commiserate about this. Just letting you know where I have been and that Grandma's have to learn to be more careful.
  8. My main computer is not hard wired to the router. My old computer is. I have no issues with connectivity. However, I do know about the telephone frequencies as I replaced my phones with Uniden Dect 6; which eliminated that problem. With a new office addition, I have not had any issues with Wi Fi, but often have to go out on the deck to get cell phone reception: a steel roof is the culprit. When sitting in the living room with my tablet, I often have to switch to Telephone mode as the Wi Fi is iffy. Again, I blame both distance and the steel roof. Crazy stuff, eh, Catherine?
  9. Nope, but I have a direct link under favorites. Have done it that way for years. Saves logging in and out of my ATX. Been a pretty dull place to visit for quite a while now.
  10. Sounds like a rip-off to me! In any case, I was surprised to get the $18 for staying home. I hate confrontation.
  11. I just got off the phone with one. YIKES!!! Today must be the day. Phone has been ringing steady. Fax this, check that, I never got my refund, I don't believe I have made a penny today. Am going to run away from home!
  12. The attorneys don't care. The payment comes out of the client's pocket.
  13. I just faxed in my non-disclosure agreement. My testing starts on Sept 9.
  14. The last time I didn't have to show up at the last minute. "Somebody" sent me a very small check, I think about $18, for my time.
  15. But, the female half of my divorce return was too stubborn to listen to me and the judge had ordered that they split the income for 11 months and each claim their own for one month. It was also in the decree that I had to prepare the return as I had been their preparer for many years. I tried to tell her that didn't matter, but, oh no, she wasn't going against the decree. Now it is coming back to bite us over and over because the IRS just doesn't understand the return, even though WI does CPState. She is definitely fired once this fiasco is over. I imagine I will be subpoenaed again in Oct when she is taking him back to court for contempt. She just won't stop chewing on this bone.
  16. EaseUS Todo Free Backup Program. Download it from FileHippo.com or FileHorse.com. This is the best backup program that I have used to date.
  17. Divorces are not all bitter and often the couples can both be retained, particularly if there are small children involved and it is a matter of who gets to deduct who. Nobody said anyone should get kicked to the curb, but I see no value in a conflict of interest waiver. It has no valid merit. At any given time they can agree to disagree and they could care less where that leaves you. However, it is seldom a good idea to retain both parties in a divorce as clients beyond the year of the divorce (unless you like having headaches and upset stomachs) This is my opinion based on experience.
  18. Getting the attorneys involved is the worst idea in my experience. Very often, attorneys know little or nothing about tax law. (Of course, there are many exceptions.) Generally divorce attorneys ask me for advice. I had one last year where the court order stated that they split income for 11 months (divorced on November 29) and claim own income for one month. They couldn't even agree on that. I told them to each claim their own income, file single and let it wash out that way. He agreed; she adamantly declined. Now, it has come back to bite them both because the IRS is just not GETTING IT! Paperwork has been returned numerous times, including again just this week. I have not found a single agent on the Federal level who understands about splitting income. On the other hand, we have had no issues with the State because WI is community property and they know all about splitting income. My advice is if they are divorced at the end of the year, have them each filed single and claim their own income. If they cannot agree; send them down the road or keep the one who is willing to follow your advice. After the year of the divorce, you are most likely going to have to fire one of them anyhow.
  19. This is OT, but I had to share. Yesterday, my cat received a postcard from NAEA addressed to Annie (my Last Name). Now, of course, she thinks she is the office manager rather than the greeter.
  20. But, there IS NO tax on Social Security Income.
  21. Splitting Straws??????????
  22. I have not been at home for two weeks, but look forward to seeing the letter when I get back. Since my clients can still contact me at this location, I am aware that there is a lot of catch-up work waiting for me on Monday.
  23. Believe me, neither my husband nor my sons do any administrative work at their place of business. All paperwork, bills, sales contracts, checks and bills pass through my office. I do the inventory, etc even though I have no personal interest in their partnership. I make financial decisions for them, advise them and babysit them. If someone calls them with any question regarding finances, insurance, tax issues, etc; they get referred to me. This is not the way I would like it to be; it is the way it is. They do the buying and selling and answering of their phone. I take it from there. I would challenge the IRS to find a spot in their place of business where any administrative work is carried out. They are a client just like any other client who brings me their paperwork in a shoebox. They don't have a clue. Again, I would prefer it to be different but doubt that it will ever change unless I leave this earth and then they will be in a world of hurt.
  24. Does all of this mean that when I get home from vacation I will have to remove all personal touches from my OIH Addition that was built exclusively for the purpose of conducting business and funded exclusively by monies earned by that business. I have a total of 504 sf if you count the basement under the new addition which is used exclusively for storage of files and computer equipment. I have three desks, three computer workstations, four chairs for clients and two workstation chairs. I have shelves for supplies, three printers, a copier and a fax machine. Even though I work alone most of the time, I use all of it in the course of conducting business. This may seem excessive for a one person office, but it took me over 30 years to earn it. OIH is not just Tax Prep. There is sales tax, payroll and payroll taxes, bookkeeping, etc. Since I do all of the bookkeeping as well as the taxes for my husband's business, one desk is used pretty exclusively for their checkbook and paperwork. That section of the house has its own insurance addendum to our homeowners policy, including liability. I guess what I would have to remove would be decorative pictures from the walls, the toybox for clients who bring small children along and two plants. I do not find this area excessive since prior to the addition, I was tripping over papers, research books, tax returns, etc. Also, I do have a part time assistant during the heat of tax season. My clients love my new office, but they don't like me any more or less because they came to me for years in the cramped quarters. They are just happy for me to have a much nicer work environment.
  25. That sounds more like a bear than deer. Also, beware moles, gophers and raccoons. Ribbons are keeping the deer out of our veg garden, but turkeys are eating the blueberries. I caught a mom and eight chicks picking blueberries one evening last week (on camera). Always remember, we are invading their territory and they have to eat too. (Not that thinking that will make you less angry.)
