  1. I have had a CAF # for many years. Only became a RTRP last May.
  2. And, hopefully, she will have many years yet in which to spend it or give it away. If she is a kind and caring person, she will be able to do a lot of good works. If not, que sera!
  3. She is doing physical jobs that entail lifting and cleaning. This is my motto exactly! I pray that my mind is as sharp at 85 as my dad's was at 92.
  4. Exactly!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Now, that might be worth looking in to. I don't like the name of the device, though. Will run it past my IT buddy. He's really fond of some really useful websites called "FileHippo", FileHorse, and "Dogpile". He has them resident in "My Favorites"!
  6. You can never assume. I had a new client this year; a little lady of age 85 who had 2 (two) W2 forms as well as SS income. Her son had to bring her paperwork in for her as she was busy shoveling snow. She was off work while her broken leg healed. Believe me, I am not making this up. Son picked up and dropped off her signed 8879. I still have not met this lady; but she is my heroine!
  7. I just won $1 on Megabucks and $7 on Crossword Puzzles.

    UPDATE

I tried to attach it to this post. See if it works.
  10. That is pretty close to what I worked with on the 2012 software. We did bump ram up to 16 early on, but am doubtful that was necessary. I did not experience many of the problems that others had. Absolutely no printing problems, ever. I do have the program on three computers, but am not networked because I work alone. Personal Preference: my system is not a Dell, but that is a moot point. IMO, it's largely in how well you take care of your equipment and how frequent your external backups are. Good luck to you!
  11. What is your new Operating System?
  12. Yes, this was a tough one. Not only did the divorce decree order the 11 month splitting of income, but it ordered both of them have their returns prepared by me.; they have been clients for many years. This was a 21 year marriage. The property was split at the time of the divorce, therefore the rentals were awarded separately; but for eleven months they belonged to both of them. WI is strong on community property laws,; but you can get around it by failing to disclose info to each other. I wish she would have listened to me. Divorce attorneys (in my experience) are usually lacking in tax law knowledge. She is still suing him for every little thing; crazy stuff like barn boards, the second key to the four-wheeler, etc. And, he is being the ultimate antagonist. I am not going to let their mistakes and troubles ruin my life.
  13. I had a difficult divorce situation this year with splitting income for 11 months. The divorce was final on Nov 29. I prepared both returns; using the 8958 to split the income. I thought everything was clearly laid out. However, the IRS sent back one of the returns (the very hostile wife's) with a form 3531 Request for Missing Information or Papers to Complete Return. Along with the request, they sent all of the paperwork explaining the entries on the HOH return. (Clients have been separated for about three years). They kept the signed return. I called Practitioners Help and the lady I talked to said that she had never seen a return done this way and that I should just attach a copy of the pages they tore off and send it back. Anybody else here have any bright ideas? This was the way the court ordered the return to be filed and when I told her that we could get around that; she refused. In the meantime, the ex-husband tells me that he got a refund; which I don't believe he was entitled to. I just want to close and lock the door when I see either one of them coming; and no help from the IRS. Understand that this was not an ordinary return. We have employment, self-employment, seven rental properties and itemized deductions. I hadn't done one of these in about 20 years.; and certainly didn't need it this year.
  14. I have been wondering if there was a polite way to ask for just such action. Thank you Eric! Some of us were very disturbed by the tone of your board ; especially the derailment of legitimate topics.
  15. Keep us posted. Thanks!

    RTRP Exam

Doesn't sound like it as they are giving refunds to anyone who made an appointment and paid for a test after January (?) 2013 when the court case started. That doesn't necessarily mean that they won't get it started again after all the legalities are handled. I hope so, of course, because I have already passed the test and feel strengthened by the experience.
  17. I am able to sync my android tablet with my Win 7 laptop and desktop. My IT man would never allow me to put WIN8 on my work computer. I don't ask why, I just obey. On the other subject, I have a 23" LCD Monitor with everything zoomed and the colors are brignt and sharp as I have ever seen. Again, don't ask me why. The entire system was new in 2012, but monitor and computer were not packaged together.
  18. Basically, what I am hearing, is that W8 is not recommended for business use.
  19. I use Medlin, but as Catherine says, depends on what you are looking for. You can look at it at www.medlin.com and they even allow you to test drive the software.
  20. It depends on whether it is a percentage discount or a flat fee. You should be able to negotiate something; depending on how much trouble you had.
  21. I remember memorizing the Gettysburg Address in grade school. God Bless America and all of our service people everywhere!
  22. That would be my husband who just got home from Texas. Also, my brother who is visiting for a couple of days.

    FYI

    That's a guy for you!
  24. My husband always worked two to three jobs when our boys were small. We didn't see much of him, but we had food and a roof. I never worked (out) until the kids were in Jr High. Now we each have our own business and I still work (out). I have collected a minimal amount of UC in my time, but Joan is correct that you can collect and still work part-time as long as you are available for full-time work. Your UC is affected accordingly.
  25. I use Quickfinder 1040 and Small Business. I purchase the All States about every third year. I also use the CCH 1040 Express Answers and the USMasters Tax Guide. For WI, I use the very comprehensive Wisconsin Tax Guide. And, always, Pub 17 is on the top of the pile except for this year when we didn't get it until tax season was nearly over. Plus, there is the ATX Community Board which is the best source of research that I have yet to find. If all else fails, just ask; and someone is sure to tell you. Thanks to all!
