  1. Just cool, calm and collected, aren't you? Such language!
  2. I just spent a good hour looking over the print module. You are correct. I generally use the Custom print so I just choose what I want. However, it has gotten so loaded down with overkill that it is hard to find what I want. I did print a return and everything was fine including speed. Did you ever find out what happened to the Cover sheet? We will find a way to figure it all out because we have to.

    12.5 is here

Yes, Eli.....I believe they pulled the update from within the program yesterday. The web update is much faster and today was noticeably faster than yesterday. Be sure you close your program before you do the download, save and run. Good Luck.
  4. This is true! Which is why when I installed 2011 on this new computer, I used Backup/Restore. To just save the files as I work, I use Export/Import.
  5. Fits the situation perfectly. Thanks Rita....
  6. Click on Acks which will connect you to the EF center and check your connection for you. Mine went through really fast.

    12.5 is here

I updated two of my machines yesterday and the third (slowest) one this morning. In all three instances I used the download from the web. There was a maked improvement in the speed of the download from yesterday to today. I also find that the program is opening a little faster and the rolled over returns are opening much faster. So far, so good............

And that is why we like having you on OUR side. Your knowledge has much value.

    12.5 is here

I have it downloaded on two computers now. One to go. I did both through the download center with save and run. Trying to update through the program kept failing this morning. This has been a long day. Program seems OK on both with noticeable increase in speed of rollovers and opening of returns. Between appts and updates; no time to try and work.
  10. My suggestion is to install original 2012 disk. Then do complete update of program. The import files that you have previously exported to a jump drive. (Sounds too easy, doesn't it?)
  11. This is true. I do believe that backup and restore does allow you to copy over the other one. Or, it is just the opposite. I know that in prior years when I was exporting to my zip drive, it would always say that this file already exists, do you want to change it? This was really nice because you could capture changes as you went along or got interrupted. Did I mention that I think I may be losing my mind?
  12. Surprisingly, though I hate to admit it at times, I do believe Jack. The reason being that I posted last week that I had tried it and it worked. Am not brave enough to go for three. Now Rita is going to hate me too and that will completely ruin my day. However she is much younger than me so has more time to get these things figured out.
  13. Always! Often and more than one. I put them on a jump drive as I go. This also enables me to move them to other computer.
  14. Isn't that the truth. XP is working fine, but I can't bump the ram up any higher on that one. However, ATX was working well on my Win 7 laptop last year and this year so far so good on both. New machine is Win 7 and just maxed out the ram at 16G, which I shouldn't have to do on a brand new i5 computer. Laptop has 3G and is holding its own, but have another G ordered which will max that one out. I would never even consider 8 for a business machine and especially not at this early release date.
  15. The custom print option is still there. That is what I always have used, but have not tried it yet for this year. You can also save the previous print job. We shall see.
  16. None of this is anything new. It has been an irritation for years. I question what is so sacred on that website that we have to constantly keep changing passwords.
  17. You got that right. The State withholding, etc prints out nicely on your reports. It's not that big of a deal to do the state reports by hand or with the ATX program. For my money, Quickbooks is and always has been "overkill". In my case, WI now pretty much demands that all state filing is done online with their clever little setup called "My Tax Account". I don't know exactly how many businesses I have set up under my account, but it covers everything from state withholding to sales tax; as well as license fees. Really pretty nifty once you get used to using it.

I have one of those, but since I don't (won't) use Quickbooks and he is a Dentist and not too savvy with the bookkeeping; I tell him to print me out a cash flow report and a balance sheet and we take it from there. This is not his dental practice, but a Partnership he has on the side with two brothers. Since I work for him part-time in Reception, I declined to do his personal return. Somehow over the course of a few years we have gotten it pretty nicely ironed out. He already anticipates what I am going to ask for and has it at hand. He has his categories pretty well figured out, but I charge them accordingly. All they have to do in the end is take their K-1s to their personal accountants. It can work and I'll bet that Rita just got herself a new long term client. You can't miss something that you never had so they are already finding out how it is to have things done the right way.
  19. OK........I opened one return that I have been opening every day. I left it open and rolled over a new return that had just come in. The rollover went fine. I opened the second return. Had two returns open and both were OK. This is the first time I tried that. I have to admit that I held my breath the entire time. This is the machine that I maxed to 16G Ram night before last. Tell me that I am still alive.
  20. You are making me afraid to even go and check. I have two machines with Win 7 64 bit and one with Win XP, all stand alone. So far I have never had a crash on any of them. I have been updating all day and it's been smooth so far. However I don't want to be like Rita and die.........twice.

You have a unique situation. Only you can decide what your time and effort was (is) worth. I think your pricing was very fair if you are satisfied. Do you have any assurance that ElCheapo is even going to pay you? When you confront her with the bill, you will know whether you want to keep her or not and/or whether she wants to keep you. She would be crazy not to. I had a similar situation several years ago which also involved a tax return in addition to 65 W2s the night before the deadline and I had a day job at the time. I got left holding the bag for a $500 bill. However, I never look back. They only get to sting me once and it seldom happens. Good Luck with your situation. You didn't charge too much. We know you need the money and you earned it. Keep thinking "paper cuts".
  22. Am sure wondering how well this is going to work and how many times it will crash with millions of people trying to access it. I have the highest hopes that it works well. Something has to. I am wondering if I have to remake letterheads, business cards and labels and remove the RTRP from after my name. What a pitiful scenario that has turned out to be, although I doubt that it is over yet.
  23. Actually, we are colder than cold, but we have very little snow. Are worried about septic systems and plants freezing out due to no snow cover. We are supposed to get a couple of inches tonight, but to date we have had no major snow cover and what we did get melted in the heat wave. Strange winter for everyone.
  24. Lloyd's day is coming. We are already up to +11 today. Heat Wave Hits Wisconsin!
  25. I have been checking task scheduler on a regular basis ever since installing the 2012 program. Amazing to see how resources are being used. Last night I had my ram updated from 4G to 16G so am anxious to see what difference, if any, that is going to make. I agree with the rebooting issue. I have been taught to reboot after any and every change to the system such as installation of a new program and/or updates. Keep your business machines CLEAN! I started input on a semi-complicated return last night (that of my computer guy). So far, so good, unless I open it today and everything is gone, which I strongly doubt will be the case.
