  1. Does that mean that when I think I am wrong, I am not really wrong because I am left-handed and thinking with the wrong side of my brain? Just wondered if I am not wrong because I'm right.
  2. This was fixed on a 1040 update tonight. Someone is watching!.
  3. AVG on my XP machine captured two trojan viruses when I first turned it on this AM. Hadn't booted it for about five days.
  4. ALERT: Clients who bought their first home in 2008 and took the credit for $7500 (tax free loan) have been having to to pay it back starting in 2010. This year it is not rolling over in ATX to line 59b of the 1040 as it did in prior years. Nor is the client receiving a 1099 from the IRS. Had I not been working on a return that I knew had to make a $500 payment; it would have been missed and a year or so down the road the client would have received a penalty. This tells me that we are going to have to ask all new clients if they are liable for the repayment. In 2010, they each got a letter and last year I know that it just automatically showed up on the 1040. This year buyers beware. It doesn't get caught in the Check Return either.
  5. At the top of my want list too. After taking two days off, I am rechecking all of the returns that I filed with Unemployment Compensation to make sure that it didn't disappear. If so, I will have to do amendments. So far, so good; the ones that I have checked so far must have been filed before the 4562 update that killed the 1099G. I have to believe that we will get through this. So far, clients have been extremely understanding. I am just telling them that they can drop their info off even though I cannot prepare many of their returns until the forms are available. I never mention the problems with ATX. Mostly, I have been been able to work around the problems on the 26 efiles that I have filed. However, my box of to do returns, runneth over.
  6. At the same time, when loading those programs from oldest to newest; be sure to update each one as you go. Then , move files from old computer to new computer on a jump drive. It is so easy and works so well if you have retained the archive disks for all past years; which of course you have. Even my tech was surprised that I knew how to do this because ten years ago when we moved everything from Win 8 to new XP computer, it was a much more involved process because neither of us knew. That is one of the benefits of this board..............the learning curve is awesome.
  7. Absolutely, YES!
  8. I have never had a request like that as far as I can recall!
  9. We might be twins, Margaret. I always wanted a sister and never got one. Anyway, I have the laptop because I can move files from the desktop via jump drive, to the laptop when we take a weekend away to our Getaway home. NO constantly ringing phone enables me to get a lot of work done there and when I get home, I can move the updated file back to the desktop so ALL files are in at least one location. Have a great tax season in spite of everything. I am still keeping a positive outlook as I have really not had huge issues, but some very annoying ones. If you think about it, you can work around a lot of things.
  10. I know that the 4562 issue is fixed. Was just warning users to check ANY return they were working on when it crashed.
  11. Rita, when I set up new computer in early January, we moved three years. Installed disks, and did the backup/restore on a jump drive. It worked amazingly slick. On the other hand, I left all of the years back to 1999 on the XP compter just because. I am hoping that computer will never die because I have a lot of other programs on it that are not compatible with 7. I print all of my business cards, labels,. etc from that computer. I do bookkeeping on there and various other things. I did have to buy updates to a couple of programs that would work with 7 when I got my laptop because that goes back and forth with me to another location. I put as little as possible on the new 7 desktop. Of course, my techie friend was a great help. He did end up maxing the Ram to 16 G when we started having issues with ATX 2012. Didn't really make all that much difference, but you try whatever you can. I do complete backups of the XP computer to an external harddrive as well as complete backups of the new 7 machine to a different external drive. I just happen to Iomega Ego drives. My XP computer has a zip drive and I miss that terribly. With what we are doing for a living and the world we live in; one computer is no longer enough. On the other hand, I would never consider networking as I, too, am a one person office. I do the updates separately on each computer and do the updates from the web site. Actually, my problems have been minimal compared to what others are telling me. I do know that I am very lucky to have a friend who knows how to help me out and he has the patience of a saint. He is also a client of mine. The one thing he is adament about is to always do a reboot any time you do a new installation of an update. I am religious about that. I hope that some of this helps someone.
  12. I did find out one thing after I had the program crash after "check return" the other night. Yes, the return does have a 4462...BUT when I went to look at it last night things had changed. Now, I have it set for auto save after five minutes. At the same time, I do a save after entering almost every W2 or any other form. Well, when I opened the return, the client was getting megabucks of EIC and I know that I had checked originally to see if they qualified and they did not. On further inspection, the crash had removed the Unemployment Income from the return to the tune of $11,000 which did then qualify them for EIC. The moral of the story is: If you have a crash, be sure to check EVERYTHING on the return you were working on when it crashed. Thankfully, for me, this has been my one and only crash so far. Jack, I am not having issues with selected returns in the e-file manager disappear. Another quirk.
  13. I have not had a chance yet to figure out what it does, but I did download and install it. After the reboot, I went into the program, finished up a return I was working on last night and e-filed it. Nothing weird happened so far.
  14. Rita, they are two different operating systems. I went through the same thing this year. For now, just install the program from the installation disk. Do the updates. Then, export your tax files to a jump drive and import them into the program on the new computer. You will also have to do this with the 2011 program if you want to roll over returns. However, if you have switched programs, I don't know what the setup is for Proseries. Can you export/import or backup/restore? A new computer is really not something for a novice to try setting up. I wouldn't attempt it. Remember that you have to make a startup disk; remove a lot of junk. I don't think you have the time involved to waste during this stressing tax season. I am sure that the techies will be jumping in on this one.
  15. I have clients that I have not seen in years. I also have clients that I have never met. Finally saw a picture of an Ala client the other day when his parents came in with their return. Even many local clients mail their info, I fax them the 8879; they fax it back signed and I mail them the finished return. Yes, those are really Win/Win.; as long as they send the check. I also have a locked drop box just outside my office door.
  16. Wisconsin has that line on the form too. You would be surprised how many people are religious about documenting that.

They just announced that it had been updated to correct the incident.

Sometimes computer programs cause mental health problems. Over the past two weeks, many people understand "Wonky".

    First Crash

That is probably true. I was able to check return yesterday on this same return and was warned that I could not file without the 4562. Today the 4562 updated and since then I can't check the return. Will try to create an e-file since it cleared the check yesterday except for the 4562.
  20. I never file a return when the client is present except in about two circumstances. It makes me too nervous and it is just too easy to miss something. After my first crash this morning I am afraid to go back into the program. It is like playing cards with half a deck.

    First Crash

I just had my first crash while trying to run a return check. It happened right after the last 15 form update. Prior to that I filed two returns this morning, printed; everything was working fine. When I saw that the 4562 was in the new updates, I opened a return that was waiting for it. I was going to check the return one last time and then create the e-file. I tried it twice and crashed both times.
  22. He has been hawking his wares on the other ATX site for a couple of days. Someone finally told him to get lost. I have no opinion, I am going nowhere.
  23. I had the same thing today with WI even though I have filed and ACKd WI returns yesterday. That sounded to me like the state couldn't be filed until it could be populated with the Fed DCN. So, I filed the Fed, after I received the ack, I filed the state and it went through just fine. There seem to be little gremlins running all over this program. You never know what to expect.
  24. Is that the same form that I have to use for a couple divorced and November and court ordered to file under the community property rules and put my name in the decree as the person to do it. I know that years ago there used to be a worksheet. What a PIA.
  25. I have AVG 2013 on both the XP and the Win 7 and I didn't have to tell either one of them anything. Everything is much too quirky this year. What works for some, etc..............!!!!!!!!!!
