I had one today where some of the assets were doubled. It is getting to where you really have to check everything.

I got that e-mail too. I, like Joan, have not updated to 11. I wasn't having many problems until the past few days when I have been starting to freeze and crash. Of course, the returns are getting more complex, but that shouldn't matter with 16 G Ram. Do you think it would be advantageous for me to update? After all the fire and brimstone on the other board in regard to 12.11, I was afraid to go there. Anyone?

This has happened to me twice now. I am exporting every couple of minutes to my jump drive. I found out that I cannot import the return without completely deleting the return in the Return Manager. I dumped two big ones in two days during printing. I cannot find the backup returns in ATX. I have been staying pretty calm until now. Also, I did not install the 12.11. Remember, you cannot import the saved return until you delete the one that crashed. Hellelujia.

What do you prefer, a student who asks a bunch of questions or?

I (very rarely) prepare a tax return in front of the client. For me that opens too many avenues for possible error or missed entries. I want complete solitude when I am working on a return. As for interaction with my clients, I welcome their conversation and confidences. I want them to feel comfortable. Over the years, many have commented that "Nobody has asked me all these questions before!" So, when they come for the interview, they get my total attention. I want them to think of me as a friend; which is how I think of MOST of them. -
That's not the easiest thing to do these days unless you special order and who has time to wait at this stage of the game?

I have been able to click on the box and the green arrow takes me to a list page. Haven't used it for an E yet, but have used it for 2106, Schedule C and 1065

I finally found the backup file and it certainly was not where I expected it to be. More time wasted.
-
But, where are you finding the Backup file? I cannot even find it except on my jump drive.
-
So did I!

I cannot and am not going to spend that kind of money on ANY software. I would have to quit first.

IRS Has $917 Million for People Who Have Not Filed a 2009 Income Tax Return

I have one of those non-filers to deal with tomorrow morning. However, I can assure you that she will not be getting a refund (unless they put it all in a basket and divvy it up). -
ATX 2012 Needs to Be Fixed as It will affect us in 2013 as Well
mcb39 replied to joelgilb's topic in General Chat
I agree with Joan, because the mysterious side of this entire issue is that some of us are having relatively few problems. (Except for my biggee today) I have not had a printing issue since day one other than the irritation of unchecking boxes. Other than the splash screen, I have really not had speed problems. I have created, filed and had accepted about 181 returns so far without any major issues. So, what is the answer. I am sure that a lot of it stems from networking as all three of my computers are running individually on Wi-Fi. The jump drive makes it easy to move files around. In a perfect world, that would not be necessary, but we do what we have to do. I know that Joan and I are not the only ones who are having relatively few issues. -
I spent most of the morning constructing a pretty complicated return. Two HSAs, Two 2106, Sch A, Sch B, Carryover Capital loss as well as wages. Just as I was about to print the first copy, the file froze. Task Manager indicated that ATX was still running, but no matter where I clicked or what I did, I could not proceed. Now, I hit the save button after nearly every document entry. SO; where am I saving it to? Because, in the end I had to close with Task Manager and was unable to re-open the file. Kept getting that weird message about the program not working. Normally, I would have exported the file to my jump drive before trying to print. This time I didn't and in the end had to do a restore to get into the file and lost EVERYTHING! So, where do all of those saved files go? This is my first experience with this, but as the returns get more complicated, how often is it going to happen. The second time around, I exported to the jump drive several times as I rebuilt the return. That takes time so any help would be greatly appreciated. Wasted nearly an entire day on one return and cannot afford that at this point.

The Ruben is tempting me; even for breakfast. It is snowing here pretty hard and I am hoping to get some work done. Panic is setting in when you divide the number of returns left to do by thirty days.

Your link took me to an adv for TaxAct. Actually, Intuit bought them out to the extent that they were no longer available at that time. What happened later is redundant because that is when I discovered Saber which became ATX. I used Parsons for several years and it was a neat little package and way ahead of its time for about $85 a year. Of course, as I said before, efile was extra, but at one time that was the case with all programs as far as I know. How cool! We suddenly have spell check.
-
Mine was also many years ago on a DOS program also; Parsons Tech, which I have never forgiven Intuit for putting to death. In those days it cost $15 for Federal and $5 for State; I think it was done through Nelco. NOBODY was willing to pay that kind of money for some crazy new scheme;so rather than lose my EFIN, I filed my siblings and myself and footed the bill. They all went through. Had a brand new IBM PS2 with a 149 mb hard drive that was supposed to last me forever. I believe that machine cost more than than nearly all those that followed put together. Kept updating and updating. Who would have thought. I still have that computer and it still works unless it died in its sleep. We were flying high in those days.

No.......by filing MFS you lose a lot of the credits such as EIC. They are not allowed. File MFJ with the 8379 and he will be a lot better off.

I keep it in Favorites so I just bounce over there when I feel like it. It bypasses logging in to the main page every time. Been doing that for about three years.

This happened to a client of mine this year. The IRS kept over $4000 for an old student loan for the wife who does not work. Can the taxpayer still file an amended return with the injured spouse form because most of the refund was his and he didn't know about the student loan in arrears. (There is a lot he didn't know about his wife before he married her and they are currently separated.)

I had a guy last week tell me that I was cooking saurkraut and actually I had Turkey in the crock pot. Client: Don't You like Saurkraut? Me: Yes,but that is not what I am cooking. Client: Sure smells like it.

That really just isn't fair! My girl comes in tomorrow morning and her desk is piled. I sure could have used her to run interference today. She isn't even close to learning how to key in a return but she does all the busy work and is keeping my bookkeeping data entry caught up; bills paid and keeping things tidy.

HELP please! wisconsin corporate returns all got rejected
mcb39 replied to cranecrane's topic in E-File
You did not have the WI e-file Info form in the return because it does not exist yet. File the Federal alone and wait for the WI e-file form to become available. It is the same for Partnerships. I read somewhere that WI was extending the time to file Wi S Corps because the needed form was not ready.
