I have saved all of the updates to a folder on my desktop. I did not install the latest one, thankfully. Anyone need them; feel free.

**HELP! all wisconsin corporate returns getting rejected
mcb39 replied to cranecrane's topic in General Chat
I heard that WI had an extension for filing of those returns because the E-file forms are not ready. I cannot file WI partnerships either. Check the WI.gov.revenue web page for an update. -
I have an irrational fear that I will never finish on time; that we will not have a program to work with next year, and/or that I might do bodily harm to one of my clients before the season is over. Well, probably not bodily harm, but I came mighty close today to losing my temper and telling a client who called me and said "You have to fix it!" to telling her to fix it herself. It wasn't even an tax issue; it was a cosmotology license renewal that she has been bugging me about all week. For crying out loud, what is wrong with these people? I need, and intend to have, a good cry. Today is my oldest son's birthday and fortunately we all consider the number 13 to be very lucky.

I totally agree. Having been in that boat more often than I care to count, it is a royal pain to try to recreate a depreciation schedule. I consider it to be part of their tax return and I always try to include it. I have gotten several new clients this year who had former preparers who had either retired or passed away. So far, none of them had depreciation, but those are the kind of returns that are still coming. I don't need ANY more problems this year (and today has been the day from hell). Drop in, drop off, pick up, with no appointments; telephone problems galore and the one client I did have scheduled for this afternoon didn't show. Of course, he is a priest so I have to forgive him, but he has one of the more difficult returns that I prepare and, yes, he does have depreciation.

The credit always follows the dependency; no matter who paid for it.

This is the first update that I am not going to touch. At least for now. Things are going well enough here and with just under a month to go and boxes of returns to do; I can't afford to encounter any more problems.
-
That is really cruel and inhuman treatment. Any way you can pass it around?

I got a boquet of flowers and a basket full of Bath and Body Works "Stress Relief" Lotions.

Lots of people do. Yesterday, one was a County Deputy who should know better. All the people who call have the day off; but you are not supposed to. I forgot to mention that I also took a nap yesterday (I was totally decadent yesterday). I asked hubby if he wanted me to unplug the phone, but he was bored silly on a rain and ice day and said that he would take the calls. Everyone needs something like yesterday and have no understanding for the fact that we lost nearly a month because of the forms; and I never mention the program problems. I actually figured a gal's taxes by hand this AM because I didn't believe the ATX calculation. ATX was correct and I am getting paranoid.

I actually went out to dinner with my son.......that is quite unusual and also very decadent. Office in Home; clients calling all day; no respect for RTRP's weekend. Also had my hair done this AM (by a client) for free and another client sent me flowers. (He needed that split income return for the bank). Yes, very decadent day! Big snowstorm just started about an hour ago so should get some work done tomorrow.

Thanks Joan. The community ended on November 28th; the date of the decree. One more month of marriage would have saved a lot of time and money. I did use the 8958 in the end to figure the separation of income and deductions. Wisconsin has very direct rules regarding the Marital Property Act.
-
All of that was done. I do have a complete copy of the decree. However, he kept the marital home as she left to live with another guy after 21 years of marriage. He needs the return to refinance so he can pay her a lump sum amount within 120 days. He is running out of time. Bank wants copyof the tax return. Wisconsin is a community property state and the court ordered that the returns be prepared according to the laws of the state. I know all of that about IRS not bowing to court orders. However, this is not a simple return. There are two daughters in college. The wife received in settlement and sold all of the mutual funds which triggers a complex 8949. They also owned six rental units. He received four of them; she received two. They each get to claim one of the daughters which involves college credits. They have itemized deductions and business use of the home. I would have been willing to disregard the court order and file them each single with their own income and deductions. She said "Absolutely Not". I really think that I have it handled. I created a tax return for the bank showing it the way it will be filed and another bogus one showing it the way it would have been had he filed with only his own business and rental income. Little does she know that she is getting the short end of the stick because now she will be paying 11/12ths of his SE tax. She is the same woman who wanted me to "cook the books" a few years back to show him with more income. Of course, we now know that she was prepping herself to leave him. Thanks for your suggestions. I did the breakdowns on the 8958 just because it was set up correctly. WAY too complicated to just do an adjustment on line 21. This will be a nice income return for me but I would rather not have been involved. I was subpoeaned for the divorce hearing; but did not have to go in the end. This was a huge challenge but I feel comfortable about it now. There still may be a little tweaking if I can pry more info out of the wife; but they both owe so not a problem now.

So, what form am I supposed to use for couple divorced in November 2012 and ordered to split income for eleven months. Each has to file Single but split income and I am ordered in the decree to prepare the return. I am assuming that if I use a hand made splitting form, I will have to paper file the returns, which is no big deal; just want to know how to report it to the IRS. Have not done one of these for MANY years. Reading the instructons for 8958, they do not fill the bill because they are no longer married for one month in 2012. This one is wasting so much of my time and gathering info from two hostile taxpayers is no easy feat. I know there are exceptions to splitting income and not being able to get the info is one of them. However, when I asked the X-wife if she would consider just filing single with her own income and deductions; she said "Absolutely NOT! I am not going against the court order." X-husband needs return done soon for refinancing and he is willing to do anything to get a return prepared that he can take to the bank.

Has anyone figured out why the "Print Page" button only works with certain forms? It will not work with Client Letter or Cover Sheet. Works with almost every other page. Add that to the rest of the thorns in my side.

I downloaded that netfix update last night; but chickened out and saved it to the desktop until I talk to my IT guy. Things are working pretty well for me, so am not taking any chances without his permission.

Not sure if this is an issue or not? State forms
mcb39 replied to BulldogTom's topic in General Chat
That is the way it always worked until you chose to install the forms. It has always been an option to choose the states that you would use most often and/or all states. This has happened to me more than once with Mn, Mi, Ia, Illinois, etc. You can then download them right into the return. This year, I selected the states I thought I would be using right from the start. Now, there are going to be more. Not a bug. -
I am on 12 and have created and filed returns with the fixed asset manager in them. However, I am on stand-alone computers; Win 7, 64 Bit. Sorry to hear that there are such serious issues still going on.

Cathy is correct. Non-custodial parent cannot claim the child care credit. The credit is lost since the custodial parent did not pay it.
-
I have noticed and have felt the same way. Like, I can handle this if nothing worse happens today. I am occasionally having a case of the disappearing X's; an issue that I never had before. Please, just let us get through this tax season.!

This is so true. I actually get a headache when I go over there and try to make sense of what they are asking. It is pretty useless to try to help them as by the time they think about looking for some advice; it is buried in the deep, deep pile of complaints.

I use AVG along with Malwarebytes......no issues!

It seems as though the new words for "Are my taxes done yet" are now "Is there anything else you need from me?" I called on Wed (the day from hell) because both her husband and she had called within three days of each other to see if they were done. Since they are habitually laaaaaaaaaaaate (as in, at least two invoices) payers; I wanted her to know that I needed to be paid and have the taxes picked up before I would file them. Her response was "I will mail you a check and if you file it tonight, how soon can we look for our refund?" Dense, dense, dense!!!!! What part of pay first don't they understand?
