  1. Well, I might have known it was too good to last. Worked fine all day yesterday except for the drop-down boxes so I didn't install 12.9. I prepared and filed several returns today without issue. SO........tonight I get a reject and cannot get into the return without the program crashing to find out the reason for the reject. I installed 12.9 and rebooted. Got into the return and the reject was because the program had added a dependent that hadn't been on this return for a couple of years; since he finished School. Fortunately, I had filed the son this morning or I would really have a mess. Do we now have to check every return to see if there are some dependents hanging around down there and physically remove them. It was getting too handy to check the box to not take the dependent in certain years.
  2. I remember always being asked to do that when either doing the return check or creating the e-file. Maybe it wasn't mandatory, but was always annoying. 1099 Gs, especially, always seemed to be hiding behind door #1.
  3. My thinking is "No" and "No"..........I don't believe that you can deduct something that does not refer to any item of income. Wiser minds than mine can chime in here.
  4. JB you really should at least move to the 12.8 unless you absolutely don't need it; as in having to e-file a 4562 return. Bite my tongue if I am giving you the wrong advice.
  5. I guess I should have highlighted the line in my post that clearly states Net income from nonbusiness rentals and royalties. Some of my clients are running out of deductions on their rentals and beginning to show a net profit high enough to disqualify them from EIC.
  6. It did.......for the second time. There was an entire series of those pictures of the baby with the dogs on Pinterest.
  7. I saw that post too. As long as things are going OK for me, I will be waiting for the 10 rather than take a chance on 9 messing things up.
  8. Eli, the update this time is not included in the program download. You HAVE to go to the website to download it.
  9. My understanding has always been that it is investment income. In 2011 and prior years there was a box to check at the top which eliminated it from qualifying for income for EIC. Have not looked at the Sch E yet this year, but under the rules for EIC, Investment income includes net income from nonbusiness rents and royalties. This is from Quickfinder Page 12-7 and has also always been my understanding.
  10. I e-filed my first 4562 return last night and had an ack this morning. Things are working well for some of us but it has gotten so that you hold your breath before you click the mouse.
  11. Same here, but the only new problem that I have noticed is the inability to have more than one return open at a time. That was getting to feel really nice. But, thankfully, so far everythig else seems to be working.
  12. That is the only new thing that I have noticed so far. I did prepare an entire return this AM; pretty simple with four W2s, but completed it from start to e-file without incident. Just when I was really liking the two returns open at once, it is gone.
  13. Mine is at 0 to 2% with ATX and two web pages open.
  14. Oh Boy...........I feel your pain, honest. Tuesday cannot come fast enough for you. I still cannot help thinking that there is a connection to the OS and Ram that is causing some of the problems. Also, it is known that networking is also a problem. I definitely asked for a WiFi setup of my new computer and that was before we even had ATX installed. Have three computers and a tablet working off of WiFi on a slow DSL connection. That is the best that I can get where I live. Fingers crossed and prayers in my heart for you Rita.
  15. OK...........I just went to check on the weirdest one that I have. Two children with two different last names. I filed it on Feb 11. It says that the refund has been approved and will be deposited into their bank account on Feb 20th. Yes, I filled out page 4 and page 5, but those two pages are not included in the e-file. Could there be a difference between return clients and new clients. This couple has been coming to me for several years.
  16. We just have to keep telling them not to spend the money until they get it. There are not guarantees; especially not this year.
  17. Did everyone download from the web? Did everyone then open the ATX program and let the installation take place. Did everyone then totally shut down their computers and restart (entire computer, not just the ATX program). My updates went well on both desktop and laptop. Opening the program is not an issue for me. Of course, I have not tried to prepare a return yet, but can open a return and close it without issue. What is going on?
  18. I have been checking page 4 also. And writing a couple paragraphs of explaination. However, who has time to check if they got their refunds or not? Not me............
  19. I am leaning in that direction. But, I have to clarify that I really have had very few problems with the program that I have not been able to work around. I have 44 returns filed and acked so far and a few on my desk waiting for the 4562 and 8863 forms. I have had one program shutdown and that issue was fixed shortly after I posted it to the board. This is not to say that every keystroke is done while sitting on the edge of my chair with my heart in my throat. But, I do feel more confident every day. Because I have never had a printing problem from day one and feel so badly for those who are constantly crashing and waiting for returns to print, etc; I cannot help thinking that some of the issues are tied to the OS of the preparers. I can remember years ago when I could practically go out and prepare a meal while one or two Organizers were printing. Therefore, RAM is not only important in your computer, but also in your printer. I sincerely hope that the new update fixes many issues and creates none.
  20. According to my all states Quickfinder book, Nebraska Schedule II of form 1040N, Credit for Tax Paid to Another State. I am in Wisconsin and we have a form OS which calculates the credit for taxes paid to another state. He has to claim the entire amount of income as Nebraska income as that is his state of residence. Hopefully it will come out close to being a wash.
  21. I just exported six returns from my desktop Win 7 to a jump drive and successfully imported them to my laptop Win 7
  22. Is there any reason that the mother cannot be supporting the student with borrowed or gifted (from boyfriend) money? Seems a little underhanded to me but if those are the facts, those are the facts.
  23. 2012 EIC Worksheet.pdf2012 EIC Worksheet.pdf I had saved it to my desktop:
  24. I actually had to get the dictionary out for that one; and I thought I was good with words. It means a change in fortune or situation for the worse. I do hope and believe that ATX will turn their vicissitudes around and they appear to be working very hard to do just that. I, for one, am losing the feeling of panic and taking it one day and one update at a time. I have been fortunate enough to not have had many of the problems that others have had; but I have had enough to keep me alert and constantly checking, updating and saving. Let's all come through this OK.
  25. My 4562 is working fine too and has been for a while. It is just not approved for e-file yet.
