If you click on "New Return", you will see all of the forms that are available or not. Is that a picture of your "little boy" already?

Thanks, Jack. Will get my husband right on that. Have to get those file cabinets moved to the basement of new addition.

Dead bolts here and files in basement in a locked room. We have self-monitored security system in home office. I do have locking file cabinets (some), but one has been locked since 2002 and I cannot get it open. Would like to start shredding.

Highly doubtful as I have had both of mine for a while as well as my Quickfinder. I did print the 12 page American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012, which came out on Jan 2.

Agree........New computer has 7, but I also loaded the program on my XP ten year old.........just in case. I was fortunate to get in under the gate before 8 was the rage. On the other hand, my computer went up $160 from May when I bought it to Dec when everyone is looking for a Win 7 machine.

I have a folder full somewhere. You want some? :P

Are you going to issue warnings or is it going to be a surprise.?

Days of Deja Vu! I still have every piece of old equipment I ever bought. Don't ask me why other than that it all still works. I have two of those green monitors about a foot deep as well as my first computer which is a 1993 IBM PS1 with a 25 Mhz Clock, 8K Cache, 129 mg hard drive. 4MB Ram expandable to 32MB.; a 3.5 floppy card and a VGA 640 x 480 video card. I had a DOS OS. We later loaded up on memory, added a second hard drive and a SCSI CDR. Can you imagine? I spend thousands on that machine and felt like a queen. I had a Lexmark Laser printer which had to be taught that it was a HP because there were so few printer drivers available. It's a wonder I was ever able to make a profit. I do have to say that every piece of equipment I bought over the years has paid for itself and it has all had a lot of TLC. I also agree that anyone who is serious about tax preparation will never have a better background that the old lead pencil, eraser and carbon paper days. The biggest highlight of my career was the purchase of a copy machine. What? No More Carbon Paper? We really had to love what we were doing way back then and probably onward to the present. Yikes, I just looked up the data. I used that computer through 1999 when I upgraded and also switched to ATX from Parsons. My gross Income for Tax Year 1992 was $705 and 1993 it jumped to $1,083. No wonder I had two part-time jobs as well as doing all the accounting for my husband's business. This year I was able to add a 192 sf addition to my home office. I must have been doing something right.

For now, just do them as they come in or you are starting to actively work on the return. We can't file anything yet anyway. I have never rolled over a return until the day the client comes in, and as Gail said, there is the occasional blip. Try to roll with the flow.

BUT, isn't this just one of the reasons why we should not be in a panic yet? We have had some terrible years in the past and came through them just fine. I do think that ATX did some overkill in the changes to the program, but they couldn't forsee the legislative glitches any more than we could. Unfortunately, an ugly bug knocked me out of commission for all of last week, so I got a nice long rest and didn't worrry about taxes because I couldn't. Also, I am not experiencing all of the odd problems that others are claiming. The program is slow to open, I am confident they will fix that. My installs have been clean on both XP and 7 and updates are smooth. I urge everyone to remember to shut down and restart after any and all installs or updates. Good luck to all of you and have a wonderful New Tax Year if it ever gets here.

I TOTALLY understand what you are saying. In no way do I want to know her value as a client. I was wishing to find out whether she had applied the money I sent her toward the debt that she claimed the IRS was dunning her for. She had not, but I have no intention of using that knowledge in any way. Before I sent that letter and check, I reviewed everything on ethics and due dilligence that I could find. since I set up all of her accounts originally, how much am I allowed,or must I, reveal when her next accountant comes calling? I want to be a good little girl, Jainen. Don't make assumptions and don't build a mountain! Oops! did l just hear my first warning bell ring?

Good for You! I did want to say, Tom, that you really should not be trying to take down the "other" board. There are many, many new ATX users over there who need every bit of help that they can get. Except in a few instances, those boards are not nearly as beyond first base as this one is. I foray over there often just to see if I can help someone out who is not asking a totally rediculous question. After all, we were all new once too. It has nothing to do with ATX and everything to do with the many software users who are lost in an endless sea. Have a little heart. Maybe you can earn yourself a gold star. :tinfoilhat:

I agree....it was just the one time to find out whether she had told me the truth; which she hadn't. She had asked me for money to pay past late filing fees and, after much thought re: ethics, I did send her a small check along with a letter of termination of our professional relationship. I know I didn't have to give her anything, but I did feel some moral responsibility and it was worth every cent. That was a "good catch" KC. It is her responsibility to change her passwords and pins in order to eliminate my access, but I doubt that she would know how to do that as I was the one who set it up. I have no further interest.

I fired a long-time PITA client in November over a minor payroll issue. It's always been a pretty ample fee; but never been worth the aggravation and hours spent. I am starting out this tax year with peace of mind that I don't have to deal with her. I went online yesterday because I still have access to her accounts and see that both her 4th Quarter payroll and November sales tax were filed late. "Good". I am not a spiteful person in any sense of the word, but she always knew better than I did and any little thing that went wrong was my fault. Now she will have to find a new whipping post, but I am out of it., and will not reconsider.

Did you update your 2011 program one last time before you started to roll over returns?
-
I received that email also and am still wondering about the legitimacy of where it came from. Is it someone just wanting to compile a list of PTIN preparers? It is a shame that a person has to second guess every request and offer these days. When it comes to confidentiality, I strongly feel that I cannot trust anyone but myself and that is not a nice feeling.

The funny part aout that is that I got more Christmas Cards and small gifts from clients than I did from relatives. Go Figure! I have often had a client tell me that someone asked them who did their taxes and my client said "I would never refer someone like that to you". Sure does make you feel good. Here's another one. I just recently filed a long time and good paying customer just because she was driving me crazy with her constant demands on my time and other things. What happens, last week she sent me a referral. Again, Go Figure.

This will also be true when Microsoft stops supporting XP, though still up the road a ways. What a shame.
-
Not necessarily true. I away get "I FORGOT ALL ABOUT IT" or "YOU NEVER TOLD ME!"
-
One of the problems with this world. People have to learn not to spend what they don't have. I doubt the EICs will ever learn that, but I wish they would not look at it as a "given" and spend it sensibly when they get it.
-
All of mine rolled over, but I don't remember what I did. However, I did have to go in and update all the preferences again; just like in the main part of the program.
-
Merry Christmas to each and every one of you and wishing you all a Happy and profitable New Year and a smooth tax season.
