Been There, Done That! :read:

Yes, isn't that crazy; especially when we earned the money? Many of us work very hard and many of us work alone with only the help of this board and our research materials. Yes, crazy! First I took care of my kids and Grandkids........then I went all the way.....for ME. I am still moving in and cannot imagine where I had all that stuff in one small room. Of course, you couldn't see the floor and I always had bruises on my legs when I had to go to the copy machine. I am being very fussy about what gets put on my new floor. I expect many of my clients to be really shocked. Thank you for your kind words.

Jack, I was aware that you said Printmaster. I just happen to have two older versions of Printshop of my XP computer and in the course of looking at the version that would work with Win7, I found the Address Book program that I ordered. I can still do business cards, etc on the XP computer so don't need all those extras. However, my 2002 XP computer can probably not handle another year of ATX. I am aware that I can print labels from the 2011 program, but I am hoping for some new clients this year.

I ordered EZ Home and Office Address Book v7.0. Five stars on Amazon. Check it out at elwoodsoftware.com. Sounds really easy and totally flexible. Can also import csv files and price is right. I have the Printshop on my old computer, but will not work with Win 7. I have been meaning to update for a while and was going to get current version of that program, but when I started reading revues, this is what I found. I got the nicest email from the creator of the program after I ordered. Sounds like total support and free updates until whenever. Reminds me of Medlin for Payroll, who posts on this board. The same nice folksy feel of the small company that I have loved with Medlin for years. :read:

I have never rolled over my clients until they make an appointment and are about to walk through the door. Over the years, that policy has saved a multitude of workarounds. I have one return, called TEST, that I use for just such things; the first rollover, the first efile test, etc. It contains a variety of forms.

We can't all live them all, but I learned at the side of dying loved ones; which are really important and which really don't matter all that much. I found that those that held it all in and never took the initiative had the hardest time passing on. I, who was an introvert all my life, am now moving forward and going after some of the things that I want and feel that I have earned. However, as I said, we have to recognize that fine line between being selfish and being generous and/or kind. Jainen, you cannot retire. What would we do without you? I have heard that lament over and over in the last year from clients. So, I did what I wanted to do for many years. I spent some money on me and put a beautiful addition on my home office and bought some new equipment to top it off. I took the test and complied with the requirements of the IRS even though I didn't agree that they were necessary. For however many days or years that I have left, I will never regret that I did it.

No such luck here with tech help. Rather than try to figure it out myself, I ordered a label making program and will stop worrying about it!
-
Very well put and very true. I am more content now than I have ever been in my life because I am living some of those regrets. Thanks for sharing. However, one must remember not to get selfish and ignore the needs of those around us.

There is no mention of labels anywhere. I am just stunned that something so basic would be eliminated. I am getting ready to send out yearly letters. Can use the label list from 2011 but will probably have to build a label database for 2012. Drats!!!!
-
I have already checked the alphabetical help. Funny how you don't notice something is missing until you start looking for it. Learning this version might be a challenge. some of us have gotten placid. thanks Jack!

Is there no longer an option to print client labels or am I missing something. It used to be under "Reports" and I am not finding a "reports" option either. :dunno:

I couldn't agree more. My new computer is also Win7. To make matters worse, my exact system is now "on sale" at Tiger Direct with Windows 7 for $110 more than I paid for it a few months ago. I think that speaks for the fact that concerned buyers are looking for Windows 7 systems while the big push is for Windows 8; which nobody with a business appears to be liking very much. My 10 year old XP system is also up and running in my office because there are things I can do on that one that I cannot do on the new one. However, I doubt that it would have handled another year of ATX. Catherine, I am still configuring my new one too. I am like a kid with a new toy. Christmas came early for me as I am now working in the new addition on my office, which more than doubled my space. Just a little fine tuning left to do and I will be ready. Just goes to show that sometimes hard work does pay off. :)

That is it in a nutshell!

Good luck on Saturday, Jack. Bring us a lot of good and useful information. Thanks for taking us all into consideration.

I have also used ATX since the mid 1990's. I wouldn't think of changing as long as it stays cost effective.

Today we are celebrating the fact that Jainen had an excellent experience. Here, in WI, it appears that the university affiliation does make a difference.

I get that sometimes. It seems to me that whatever I type in there works. I had never set up a password.

What type of eye surgery are you talking about? If it is cataract surgery, it is one of the best things that my husband and I ever did. We both had it done at the same time. Good Luck with whatever it is. Thinking about you.
-
Absolutely correct. If I could have CE credits for what I have learned on this board, my pockets would be full. Thanks again to all and to Eric for making it possible.
-
That is also the advice that I have gotten. In any case, I am just now really switching from XP to Win7. I love my Android tablet, but I am not ready to use that format with my business computer.

KC....may God continue to hold you in the palm of his hand. I have a dear friend and client going in tomorrow for a double mastetectomy and restoration. I doubt that I could face that so prayers are constant around here.

The speakers (teachers) we have always had at Tax Insight are from both the Federal and WI. The will take a certain number of questions during the lesson; which is a real learning experience. Then, as Gail says, they provide contact numbers and websites to further enable questions and research. They are extremely knowledgeable, polite and never condescending. With groups as large as ours, there are preparers from all stages of accomplishment and credential. However, in that room, everyone is equal. Nice!!!
-
For some of us, like Jack and I, it isn't just about getting the credits. The interaction with other preparers as well as live teachers means a lot. I will continue with the two day live seminar in the future because I actually learn something and, as Jack says, two delicious meals. We had over 300 in attendance.

I use Tax Insight which is Wisconsin based and have used them for many years. This is a two day seminar with a variety of accomplished speakers and teachers. I have never come away from any of their classes feeling that I haven't learned "something" even though much of the subject matter doesn't necessarily pertain to my practise. After completing the class early this month, I had my CE Certificate by E-mail the very next day.
