  1. Ron: Thanks for the update. I don't think I will be back for ATX. Sorry, I have just lost faith. Rich
  2. Drake just sent me an offer to a workshop in Wilmington, DE. I think I have to go... I would like if Mr. Marx's letter had said: THe DB we switched to is not compatible with the majority of our clients needs, and we will be replacing the DB, therefore, returning the functionality that we enjoyed for many years. THe stand-alone clients of ATX are going to be ok. Not a capital letter OK, just ok. But the network folks are out of luck. Rich
  3. Thanks for all the replies. Its the owner of the business, so default is low, unless the business crashes.... But I guess, he needs the money... I thought the deduction would just be an after-tax thing. Rich
  4. Hello: Have a client who has a 401(k), and they borrowed $$ from the plan. Now, doing the payroll, they want to deduct the repayments from the paycheck. There is an interest portion and the prinicpal repayment. My gut tells me that the deducted amount is just a standard after tax deduction, with no tax savings, etc. Would I be correct? Rich
  5. Ron: Have you moved on from ATX? Or just from worrying about last years problems? I haveto spend $4k to upgrade my computer systems, to load a $1,500 program, that would have no guarantee of working... And I will be stuck running Win8... Its tough to make THAT decision.. Rich
  6. The interesting thing? That isn't how big the code actually is. According to James Maule, its about 400,000 words, not 4 million. http://mauledagain.blogspot.com/ The 4 million comes from all the old stuff that is there for the roadmap. Meaning, if the code section was created in 1952, you have that language, and then you have every change to that section, and all the links to other changes over the years till now. He gives the example of Code Sec 168, ACRS Depreciation. 24 pages are the actual code, now, and 52 more pages are amending texts and background. Big difference. Just like the Constitution. Its what? Six or seven pages? But with every law that Congress has passed and the courts have interpeted it has to be MILLIONS of pages of amending, clarifying and background information. But we do not count that.... Rich
  7. Catherine: That is my point. Both votes are pointless. Whether against Obamacare or the Senate. At least the one against the Senate would mean something, as it points out how embarrassing it is for the Senate has not performed in its most basic tasks for over four years. And BTW, I understand the Constitution. Its states rather explicitly that each chamber in Congress is allowed to set its own rules of how to operate. So, the House could vote to censure the Senate and vice versa all day and it doesn't make any difference to either side. IT was meant to be in good humor. And they have voted 37 (!) times to repeal.... Rich
  8. So... I wanted to review how I input this, and maybe that might explain the reason why... I started at the form 3800. As most of these clients claimed the credit in 2011 as well. You could input all the information on the Form 3800 in the "input" tab, and the credit carries to the 1040. THe 8941 is attached to the return already, but nothing, it seems gets carried to that form. So, the "check return" and "E-file Error" check do not pick up anything wrong. You have to go to the Form 8941 and enter the info on line #15 for the credit amount. Then you go back to 3800 and enter into the input section. So that generates the error in processing at the IRS and the letters I have been getting, becasue I did not put the number on Line #15. Sweet. Rich
  9. I have been receiving a number of notices (LTR 12C's) for the IRS. Each of them are the same scenario: 1040 client, who owns an S-corp, and claimed the Heath Care Tax Credit on a pass-through basis on Form 8941, each return was e-filed and passed all ATX checks. THe IRS asks why line 1 and 2 are not filed out. (Becasue they are on the 8941 filed on the S-Corp return!) Was this something that the IRS has missed? I missed? Or did ATX miss? Rich
  10. Wow. The house voted to repeal Obamacare. Haven't they done that about 15 times already? Why don't they vote to demand that the Senate pass a budget? Then maybe they can pass a budget to run the US Government for next year? No, Too busy repealing Obamacare... The system is broken in many ways. The easy availability of SS Disability and Unemployment and other social services is one element, but NOT the only one. And the fact that the US House is voting to repeal Obamacare is just another defination of insanity.... Rich
  11. HVKen and MichaelMars: I am glad that you had a chance to talk at length with the ATX folks. (And in Mr. Mars' case, drink thier liquor...0 However, How can "we" join you in getting onto the BETA testing list? "We" being members of this forum, for example. I will be doing tax returns up to October 15th, so I will be able to tell if they are fixing anything for 2012... And 2013 is just a dream... If it will NOT work on a network, then the rest does not matter. I will be a "Beta" Tester. Share that info with us... Rich
  12. Randall: That is what they do. Then you file the form MD505 and claim the refund for the taxes paid, less the amount that was due. They should only withhold 2.5% of the sales price also. If the inheritated property was recently, sometimes the attorneys will let you withhold less. But the law in the peoples state of MD is pretty clear. Mo' money Rich
  13. Are you still shoveling all that "global warming" stuff? Or has most of it melted? Rich
  14. A woman walks into an accountant's office and tells him that she needs to file her taxes. The accountant says, "Before we begin, I'll need to ask you a few questions. "He gets her name, address, Social Security number, etc. And then asks, "What's your occupation?" "I'm a Lady of the night," she says. The accountant is somewhat taken aback and says, " Let's try to rephrase that." The woman says, "OK, I'm a high-end call girl". "No, that still won't work. Try again." They both think for a minute; then the woman says, "I'm a Politician." That works much better, your screwing everybody.
  15. Sometimes, I wonder if clients DO understand all the things we can do for them. Had a client that I checked our states "unclaimed" funds that are turned over to the state from banks, etc. Found over $2k for one client, and another close to $6k. Rich
  16. Terry: Why can't you rollover from the prior year? Are you not finding last years returns in the rollover manager? Rich

Ari: What type of Clientele do you have? 1040's/1120/1120s/1065/990? Big complex returns or 1040/schedule A? Makes a difference if I move. Rich
  18. Joan: I have no problem with what you stated. It was your experience. And many folks ARE having issues and are not interested in doing the work to get to a better place. That is laziness defined.. After 12 hours on the phone with ATX and my local computer guy, I determined that ATX was NOT going to do what it did in the past on a network, and I made a decision. I just started running each computer in a stand alone manner and I walk around the office and review returns on each computer, and I rescheduled my employee's to be here at different times, so that we could get returns done.. Does that make me happy? No. Will it force me to change? Yes, It already has made me change. I may move to something else next year. I will make that decision by Oct 15th. But I have to get to April 15th now. I have spent WAY more time of this site, and the ATX corporate site then I ever wanted this tax season. Rich
  19. Most likely This^^^^ Send her a letter in June, and ask if you two can chat, and look over her return for free. After 20 years... I've been hired, I've been fired. I get hired more, so that works good. Rich
  20. Ron: Glad to hear that 12.11 is working in your enviornment. 8-9 users in a server-client system.... I think we all got the email, now, becasue many of us are afraid to switch... If you are getting work done in 12.9 or 12.10, why go to 12.11 when the other upgrades blew everything up? I have stayed at 12.10, becasue I am getting stuff DONE. And I do not want to interrupt that... Rich
  21. SFA: I have two 27" monitors on my desk, and a 22' that faces the client. I use the 22" when we are reviewing Qbooks or other Financial data. Or tax planning.. But I never do a return while the client is here. I get thier info, get it done, and get them back. They lean over to see the screen? I turn them off. Rich
  22. Why? There are no facts in evidence of this. Rich
