I think we all give special rates to some, but I also think that we should all start with a fair price list, and charge it to all, and THEN we can show a discount where it is applicable. This does two things. It lets those we do discount know how much we are giving them, and it avoids them sending us others expecting the same low rate. Plus, if their situation improves, we can remove or reduce the 'discount' without shocking them so much. We need to be fair to ourselves and our families too, you know. PS For those we charge a fair price, who COMPLAIN about that price, their fee should go UP for sure. Why put up with that aggravation, unless they pay dearly for the right to do so?

Accountable plan mileage included in W-2
kcjenkins replied to Margaret CPA in OH's topic in General Chat
Just another screw-up by a government agency. The W-2 should not have included the amount in box 1, question is how likely is it to get a corrected W-2? I'd have her try that, [always assuming the amount is significant, of course] and then, if by Feb 15 you have had no luck, you could do a 4852 to adjust the W-2. That form is for not only missing W-2s but also to correct an incorrectly prepared W-2. -
Always assuming that they do not want to file jointly.

There may be, and probably are, depends on the state most likely, but that has nothing to do with the tax code.

I'm with Gerald on this, Form is as important as Substance in many IRS situations, and this is one that could bite them in the rear end if they don't do it right, but would be easy to 'fix'. Just make sure that if one takes $50K and the other takes $40K, only the $40K is shown as a Dividend, and the rest as either income or a properly documented 'loan'. Remind them that the tax savings are worth a little extra effort to 'do it right'. And be sure your fee is increased to cover the value of that advice!

http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-dft/f1120so--dft.pdf I'd start by reading the instructions for Sch O.

Actually, I saw an email stating that the IRS is working on fixing this error. You might want to delete the efile forms in the efile manager, then go back into the return and recreate the efile, and see if it goes through this time. Remember, IRS always has a few 'bugs' at their end in the early days, but usually they get them fixed reasonably fast, and then the same return goes through just fine.

Personally, I can't think of anything I want less in the way of 'tweets', but then, some people clearly do want them, which is OK with me. The iPhone app makes a lot of sense, but 'tweets'? Oh well, to each his own........LOL

I have no idea, but if it is automatic, I'd just leave it there, because odds are it does appear for a reason that makes sense in the program, whether you can see it or not. And I don't see how it can do any harm. Have you tried going into it, then clicking on the Help icon? It might tell you something that clears it up.

Yes, because the IRS uses computers for so many of their notices and penalty letters, filing a zero 940, while meaningless to a human being, creates an entry in the computer that avoids the 'automatic letter' that not filing will usually generate.
-
I agree, in fact, she did exactly what she should have done. By first rolling it into the IRA she made it available to use without penalty, although of course, it's still taxable.

Expenses for his home church would be 2106 expenses, IF he gets a W-2 from them, expenses of his other would be on his Sch C, as would the income. You need to use the Minister's worksheet, which should help you sort it all out properly and get everything to the correct place on the return. Such a small amount from his 'home church' makes me wonder if even they treat him as a W-2 employee, though. If they do not, then put all the income and all the expenses on the Sch C, as he is truly self-employed. The worksheet has a place near the top to link the Sch C to the worksheet.

And just wait until you explain to him that this means he has $5000 of INCOME and has to deduct the attorney fees on Sch A.

Having a brain Fart - Air Condition Unit In rental
kcjenkins replied to BulldogTom's topic in General Chat
It's Residential Rental, so you're stuck with the 27.5. Not fair in many cases, where units are normally replaced around 15 years, but when was the tax code ever based on 'fair'? -
Sad to say, necessary or not to her physical being, it's not a 'job necessity', so it's personal travel. Same as going to and fro from home to job is personal. What she should do is ask the company to set up a reasonable 'reimbursement' for the mileage, due to their failure to provide facilities in walking distance. Of course, she should get all the workers to agree to make that a group request, so no one gets singled out as a troublemaker.

Tell him "It's a parent's obligation to embarrass their teenagers! And it's payback for all the times you embarrassed us when you were younger. One day you will have kids, and then you will understand."

Check the state website to find out that one.

No need for a zero W-2, but I would file a zero 940 and 941, if there was no payroll at all to anyone last year. Just to CYA and the client's A as well.

I just tested it, and it printed just fine for me.

Guess that solved the problem.

Tom, the best part of the two-pass option with a good check-signing machine is that you can lock up the machine, and thus someone can not print a check just by breaking into the computer program. It takes just a bit more time, but it does add a level of physical security, IMHO. And there are machines that can print 750 checks in just minutes, once you have reviewed the payroll and printed the checks out. Start here: My link My link My link My link You might also check with the Timberline people, to see which they recommend.

OK, I had forgotten about that first credit, which was not really so much a 'credit' [which you get to keep] as an interest-free LOAN. I agree, then, if none of the things listed apply, the program should accept zero as a valid entry for those lines. Report it to the programmers, through the Suggestion Box option on the Support home page. I'm sure they will get it fixed soon.
