You and me and most of the rest of us too.

My monitors tilt, so if I just get a shelf to put the keyboard and mouse on, that might work for me. Sometimes there are serious advantages to being short -- this might be one of them. Might not be too hard to get a shelf the right size and height.

Yes, please - a link! A friend of mine has one also and raves about it but his taste runs to "Cadillac" brands and lines. I'm more of a Suzuki girl, myself.

Tax reduction strategies for high income family

Unless he expects *more* income next year... I have a few that do that dance. -
Local farm stand sells flowers; I was looking at them the other day and just might go for it. Thanks for the nudge!

If he is under the filing threshold for that state, I don't think so. If above, he has to file.

Honey, just line 'em up and use a high-powered round.

When I get price shoppers I just *love* it when they ask if my fees are negotiable. I tell them, "Yes, they are - UPWARDS only." They RUN. Tee hee. (There is an old Rita Rudner comic routine where she talks about getting rid of boyfriends you can't stand and who won't commit. She said to tell them "I love you, I never want to be apart from you, I want to have your babies." then she said, "Sometimes they leave skid marks." I want those price shopping PITA folks to leave skid marks.)

Either Jack's or John's responses are entirely appropriate and warranted. IF you decide to let this twerp in the door, get the money UP FRONT and make sure the check cashes before you do so much as open the folder.

We've still got SO much snow on everything that I'm not going to see the crocuses and daffodils until May this year!

That's exactly what happened -- someone else used the ssn on a return. Probably made up, probably EIC fraud. Paper-file the return and contact /get client to contact IRS Identity Theft group, get the 5-digit PIN assigned for next year.

I have those, too.

So pretty! Enjoy them. I know a lady who sells the most *wonderful* old prints on Etsy. Just got one of a wonderful cottage garden and am having it framed for my office. https://www.etsy.com/shop/RetroReveries

My husband, back in high school, asked his dad for help on a beginning calculus problem. His dad looked at it and said, "You can solve that with tensors," at which point my husband declined and said he'd ask his mom (yes she knew calculus; she has an advanced degree in chemistry).

I have had a couple of those and was able (thanks to my WIP spreadsheets) to tell them, "Yeah, but last year I had all your docs in-hand by Feb 10th and this year you didn't bring them until Feb 28th." And with some, "Yeah, and last year we had to amend because you got corrected 1099-B's in late March and we agreed to hold off this year just in case."

Can I write off guns and ammo as entertainment?

My husband says that most of the hysterically funny/*stupid* videos on YouTube all start with someone saying, "Here, hold my beer and watch this..." and he has a point! -
You can pro-actively get an IRS-issued 5-digit PIN to prevent someone from using your ssn to file a fraudulent return. Some folks on another tax board are doing this for their clients; I just did it for my family. If you know the ssn's it takes about 10 seconds including the time to print (or save as pdf). http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Electronic-Filing-PIN-Request

Jack -- read Rita's sig line and I think you will know everything you need to know about this situation. -
Here in MA we have this weird "senior circuit breaker credit" that is a refundable credit for folks over 65 (that has NOTHING to do with circuit breakers). Income limits on the thing. Meant to be an offset for property taxes (to some extent) but includes renters and also takes into account half the water/sewer bills for the year. Up to $1,000 per year. LOTS of preparers miss that one. Had an elderly lady come to me when she sold her house; I was able to get three years' back SCB credits for her. With some other small bits of nonsense tossed in, still almost $3K in her pocket. Then I had to convince Drake these were NOT taxes deducted in previous years and so not includable on the 1040 as taxable state refunds. lol

And then there's that client who thinks he DOESN'T itemize

The blank receipts from goodwill drive me NUTS! -
One older client, for whom it provided almost no help. I think it was $100 over the 10%, added on Sch A saved them an additional $10. Big whoop.

I am starting to believe there is a conspiracy

I'd be happy if there was just a rule on minimum font size - like there is for Section 7216 disclosures.
