  1. You will have to go to return manager and then to customize master forms. That's the only way I know. Maybe some else can help.
  2. Do you mean Client letter? If so, go to Fed client letter, open, click on options then look for "combine" state and fed or words to that affect.
  3. Not having Adobe Pro, I use a free encryption utility from: http://www.2brightsparks.com/onclick/eoc.html It works fine and I also keep the password simple.
  4. Maybe I am being a little paranoid, but due to the security and privacy issues, I send my emailed copies of returns encrypted.
  5. Here are the "gruesome" details. "The IRS also reminded homebuyers that the new documentation requirements mean that taxpayers claiming the credit cannot file electronically and must file paper returns. Taxpayers can still use IRS Free File to prepare their returns, but the returns must be printed out and sent to the IRS, along with all required documentation." "The IRS has stepped up compliance checks involving the homebuyer credit, and it encouraged homebuyers claiming this part of the credit to avoid refund delays by attaching documentation covering the five-consecutive-year period: 1. Form 1098, Mortgage Interest Statement, or substitute mortgage interest statements, 2. Property tax records or 3. Homeowner’s insurance records."
  6. Mine all downloaded this week during auto update.
  7. Just click on options then preferences. On the preference screen, click on "Rollover Manager" and check the boxes.
  8. Individual (1040) e-file Began January 15, 2010 This is from a 12/14/09 notification from the IRS.
  9. Here is their website: http://www.caltax.com/Pages/home.aspx I have used them for years. I have also had CPE classes taught by their staff. The CEO or publisher is Lynn Freer, EA — Lynn “Ms. California Tax” Freer. (Their quote.) You can email them about shipping. My book came UPS, but they should be able to help you.
  10. From SSA site: Individuals who were not eligible for Social Security, SSI, Veterans, or Railroad Retirement benefits at any time during the months of November 2008, December 2008, or January 2009 are not eligible for the one-time payment.
  11. I went to the PS Community today and I have to say I agree with you 100%. I had never gone there before, so I used my Quicken password and got right in. I was very surprised that you received so many positive responses to your post there, but nothing from, which I consider the best, this site. I, as an unenrolled preparer, agree with you totally: Each and every one of these questions embarrass me. I periodically hear other preparers at seminars I attend griping about having to take xx hours of continuing ed. I average 40 to 50 hours a year and when I don't, I don't feel completely ready for the tax season. As an aside, I do only individual returns and let others take the Corps and partnerships, etc.
  12. I am going to assume (!) the client's basis is more than the amount received and not report it. This would seem to follow the guide lines issued by the FTB back in September. http://www.ftb.ca.gov/professionals/taxnews/2009/September/Article_1.shtml
  13. "I am not in favor of some of the CA tactics to get preparers to audit their clients tax returns." Every year, the FTB, from the BOE (Board of Equalization) pushes tax preparers to get their clients to report the "use tax" they do not pay for out of state or Internet purchases. I WILL not do this. If my client wants to pay this, they have the opportunity in the interview. After they stop laughing, I give them a BOE brochure that explains their responsibilities, which they take with them!!!!! "Stepping off my soap box now." Off mine now, too.
  14. Thanks, it will definitely help stop the "falling through the cracks."
  15. After being told, rather bluntly, that I did not qualify for ANY research material, I received Express Answers today. Being a "Valued Customer," we sent you this "as it is included as part of your original order." I can hardly wait until tax season is over to see how much of a "Valued Customer" I really am.
  16. It is in my organizer for 2009 tax year. There are two versions of the organizer. Not knowing what else to call it, download or search your program for the "comp" one.
  17. I think the average person/persons that go to HRB, doesn't really care as long as their taxes get done. To them it is just like going to DMV, it is something that has to be done and they know that can't do it themselves. They see all the "fluff" ads on TV and figure why not. Most, probably don't realize we exist. Another point, as least to me, HRB prepared roughly 900,000 less returns over the 2008 season, but the average fee increased from $175 to $187. A quote from Dow Jones News: "And Barrington Research analyst Alexander Paris said that the regulation's orders for employees are weaker than what H&R Block already imposes, meaning it could actually help the company by eliminating competition. "They have a very professional tax preparation [system]," Paris said. "It's the moms and pops that don't and could be forced to close if they have to."
  18. These days they call it an option or a derivative, but the result is exactly the same.
  19. I attached a file of the input sheet showing how I handle puts and calls.PUTS AND CALLS.pdf I don't know if it will work, but I will try. The "acquire" date would be when he "bought back" the put and the "sold" date is when he sold it. The key is the Transaction number after the description. It would be #14 short sale. Expired puts and calls, when sold short will work the same way. The "acquired" date would be the expiration date of the put. This is always the third Friday of the month. Puts and calls always have a month in the description - 2 Puts ABC OCT 10.
  20. Buying or selling puts and calls?
  21. JRS

    2009 software

It works for me when I right click on the form. Drop down shows and has print current page.

  23. ATX took over the orders from TRX. ATX contacted me to verify my order and stated, when asked, That 1) They would handle all customer support and 2) I would receive all that was included as if I purchased from ATX. TRX, when contacted stated ATX would handle everything and my relationship with TRX basically was over.
  24. Same here. I emailed CS (!), they didn't even say I didn't qualify. They told me where I could buy them. I even posted on the My ATX community, which was a waste of time. BUT, the response was fast! I looked at "My products" and it showed I ordered MAX, but in shipments it showed 2009 ATX PRIEMIER. Note the spelling!
