  1. Expanding my office space to 2 rooms. My executive assistant will be in the second room with her own desk, computer, printer, fax etc. as well as all the file cabinets. This year I did 175 as well as an average of 45 hrs a week at the firm. Majority of my clients have become drop off clients. I am ready for the drive to work to be 60 feet instead of 26 miles one way. By the way... (This is a very closely kept secret....) I have been sleeping with my executive assistant since I started my tax business. I am also doubling her salary too

  4. Thank you everyone for being my colleagues, for helping, for not judging, for understanding, for providing a safe place to vent, and for caring about one another.

  5. When you work alone in a home office some times its just good to have someone to bounce thoughts off of. That is the only thing I miss from working in an office. This board which I found 10 years (omg 10 years) ago when it was still on ATX has been my savior many times. So hats off to everyone. Thanks for another informative year. We all seem to have made it. And don't foget your donation. I already sent mine last months. Special thanks to Eric. Keep up the good work. Linda morgan Hill CA

  6. Hear! Hear! So many of us could not do this job without all of you - what a team is atxcommunity! Back when folks may not have realized what was begun and continues today. What a great 'family' we have here - thanks to all!

  7. A hearty THANK YOU to everyone here who helped this tax season. Many of us will hang around for extensions, but before we all headed off for some well-deserved R&R I wanted to be sure to send my thanks. Catherine And just to show what kind of a season it has been... :wall:

  8. I don't know how you could deal with 400 by yourself, Jack. You must be much more dedicated than I am. Since I moved my business home, my husband said that he knows now why my clients stay with me. He asked my how I don't go crazy being their CPA, psychiatrist , marriage counselor and friend. It's very difficult to keep my fact time down with them, which means work until 2 or 3 at night to get caught up. I am so tired today. I wanted to take the day off, but I see that is harder to do with my office here. I have a ton of extensions to prepare and business clients so that keeps some cash flow going.

  9. All said above is true here as well. Working alone, home office, etc. I woke up this morning with such a feeling of contentment and achievement. I could never have done it without all of you. This was a difficult year; new clients, new questions and situations, new forms to contend with! I was busy every minute and still have a box full of extensions and more coming in today. But, I surely tried to do the best job possible for my clients. I am here for them and you are here for me. Thanks so much and remember that there are no dumb questions.

  11. Thank you all! Everyone has moments when they need a little help, and sometimes just typing a question makes me realize that I knew the answer and don't need to post the question, I just had to clear my mind for a minute and focus! Of course sometimes I still don't focus and wind up asking something I should know the answer to, but everyone is helpful and usually understanding!

  14. Thank you to everyone that contributes here. I, too, miss having colleagues to bounce the ideas off, so this board is a definite resource. I haven't contributed as much as in past years, but I do follow the posts and always learn something or have an adjusted perspective that I hadn't considered. I'll still be around, but for those of you that are taking off soon, I'll wish you all a happy, healthy and prosperous remainder of 2012. Judy

  16. Yes, because sometimes we all get frazzled or are confronted with esoteric stuff but someone else has seen it. And at the end of the season, I don't feel 'dumb' posting something I should know, but has slipped away in the fog.

  17. I agree with everything said above. It is fabulous to have a place to ask tax questions when you work at home -- especially when this isn't your first career and don't know any "local" professions to discuss with. Thanks for all your help this year (and previous years). I hope my questions weren't too stupid.

  18. Death and taxes I was watching the news Sunday evening and they were interviewing a woman in, I think it was Oklahoma. She was a survivor of the latest tornadoes. She said her whole house was gone, EXCEPT for her office in home. She is a tax preparer. She said she didn’t lose any of her client’s tax returns. (Or her hard work). Now tell me the IRS doesn’t have that good of connections?

  19. But with self-employed people that figure can change dramatically from year to year. And if you don't have 2010 (or anything prior), it's a total WAG (not even scientific enough to get the SWAG label).
