  1. That's exactly what I thought at first, too. But if dad is spending it all on tuition, he's not getting anything. I dunno why mom can't write tuition checks. Maybe dad gets a reduced rate on tuition, and the difference between his rate and mom's rate is really HIS payment to the mom? Teachers here get a deal on state tuition. Maybe something similar going on here for this private tuition. I've seen non-custodial parents suddenly become custodial when it comes time to enroll the kiddos in college, complete FAFSA, etc. It's a miracle. (Insert heavenly light and sound here.) I'm with Max. This is a head scratcher.

  2. Are now up on YouTube! Sorry for the delay. The link here is to the Viennese Waltz; no routine, just a couple of quick rehearsals and a general idea. The male dancer who was supposed to be part of it - well, long story, and he couldn't and there had not been any choreography. So the head of the local dance studio, and Gwen, pretty much made it up on the fly in the week before the performance. Viennese Waltz

  3. I called Tech Support. They connected remotely to my PC and deleted some files and ran a repair utility...works fine now....They have no idea why this happens and could not guarantee it would not happen again. Fortunately, they seemed to know just how to fix it and I was repaired and off of the phone in under 20 minutes

  4. Haha, no, I didn't reboot, I just had to adjust the screen. I forgot that every time there is an update, I can't see the tabs until I fix it back. Sorry to be an alarmist. OMG...

  6. Here's another one for you, with a couple of stories to go with it. Keene HS does an all-night graduation party for the kids, and their big fund-raiser is a "Dancing with the Stars" with local notables; a local dance studio provides the professionals. Gwen's assigned partner this year was Steve, one of the local policemen (last year's partner was a firefighter - we tease her that she should go back next year and insist on an EMT, to have a full sweep of emergency service personnel partners). Steve's mother got very ill during the spring and he was away, and as a result Gwen & Steve only got half the time to practice as the others - and they took second place. The other bits of the story are that all the sexy moves in the dance were put in by Steve's wife, and that Gwen's dance costume is one she designed and made herself, last summer. Hustle

  8. From Publication 17: Time for filing a claim for refund. Generally, you must file your claim for a credit or refund within 3 years after the date you filed your original return or within 2 years after the date you paid the tax, whichever is later. Returns filed before the due date (without regard to extensions) are considered filed on the due date (even if the due date was a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday). These time periods are suspended while you are financially disabled, discussed later. If the last day for claiming a credit or refund is a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, you can file the claim on the next business day. If you do not file a claim within this period, you may not be entitled to a credit or a refund. My reply: Tax advice including research = $95 Amended Return: $250-minimum Let her be the judge.

Efforts to Prevent Payroll Tax Delinquencies IRS Collection is piloting an initiative to make early contact with employers who may be falling behind in their payroll taxes. When it appears an employer may owe a balance at the end of the quarter, revenue officers will be in contact before the quarterly payroll tax return, Form 941, is due. The goal is to address payroll tax issues before they become unmanageable. Headliner Volume 351 has more information. Back to Top 3. 11. I bought Acrobat X when Acrobat XI came out - fully registerable, off ebay, for about 1/3 the price of the new version. You could try and see (assuming you like the Nuance version) if there is a registerable, license-able, prior version on ebay for small money.

  14. If this folder is so unimportant that you can delete it and ATX will recreate it, why don't they just delete it every time the program closes and recreate it every time the program starts?

  18. Seeing as how my ex always had issues meeting those things, even though she was working as well, is the very basis for my "issue" with how she was spending my child support money. I spent more money helping keep those things current for my children. I do not begrudge spending any money to take care of my children. I just wish there was a device in place to make her as responsible for spending the money as there was to make sure I paid it. Unless you have been there, you have no idea.

  21. Just found another program that did a much better job, Nuance Power PDF Standard. It created the fields better with a larger font AND made the square boxes "checkable" with a click. Now I just need to get ATX to make the Yes/No boxes on the questionnaire square so they too are check boxes.

  23. For the most part, (and you *must* read the docs to be sure) anything that is tied specifically to child expenses and/or expires when a child reaches a specific milestone (age 18, graduation from high school, leaves the private school, whatever) is considered child support. Alimony can NOT be tied to child milestones. But I am not a lawyer and don't even play one on television - and these things can change from state to state, as well. So check with an in-state attorney and check those court documents!

  24. My understanding is also that the magic number is $50 (or more) difference in tax. Really, under that, it's not worth their time to process. States may be fussier. And definitely fix it going forward, starting with updating that address!

  25. I know that I saw just the other day that those are the amounts that are considered as small enough that you don't need to have an 8829 re-signed if you make a change on a return. So they probably will not generate a letter. BUT if a letter is generated for any other reason, they will be added to the changes. I too, would probably correct it going forward, and otherwise ignore it unless the IRS brings it up.

  26. After reading your update, I would consider it to be child support and non-taxable to your client.

  27. Not sure I have this straight: Your client is receiving child support, but is not the custodial parent? That doesn't make sense unless it is disguised alimony. But if he is the recipient, then he doesn't pay taxes on child support, and ex cannot deduct the payments. I agree with Cathy's points, but she is reading that your client is paying the child support I think. I usually have clients paying child support who want me to treat it as alimony. Your situation is a new one on me.

  28. I have not seen e-file rejection for just switching the order. However I have seen time and time again that estimated tax payments do NOT get applied to the surviving spouse's account if that person has been the second name. Now I warn folks about this, because the last thing an elderly widow/widower needs is a nastygram from the IRS saying they owe $16,000 that they do not, in fact, owe.
