Fujitsu, definitely. Gave my long-time ScanSnap to my kids who run a business; it was too good to upgrade unless I found a home for the ScanSnap. I bought a newer Fujitsu 6130Z with a very small footprint to use with CCH products. Fujitsus are the workhorses of the scanner world, like HP is to printers.4 points

Three Epson scanners in two years. They do OK at first but then can't seem to feed multiple sheets and start clicking for no apparent reason. I did about an hour of research and decided that the rollers needed replacing. So I went to the Epson website -- out of stock! I called their support number and spoke to a representative who said that, yes, the rollers are out of stock. I asked if she knew when they might have some more - she said, "Maybe weeks, maybe months - who knows?" Then she suggested I call a place in Washington. They had the rollers in stock so I ordered them and had my computer guy install them. The scanner still clicks and won't feed properly. I'm switching to an HP scanner. The scanners for Drake and Creative Solutions have to be "Twain Compliant". What a 19th century humorist has to to do with data storage is beyond me. Rant over. That is all.3 points

It kind of sounds like the days of yesteryear.....the year, that is, when the board was shut down because they didn't like comments in regard to the issues that we all had that one year in particular when it was a fight every time we had to file a return!!!!! The board just vanished...poof...no word....just vanished! Oh, yes, I do remember well!3 points

I also recommend the Fujitsu S1500, it's the best scanner since the invention of whipped cheese in a can. I have a question, can one get a bad ream of paper? I recently bought a whole box of paper at Costco and when I print more then 5 pages it curls up, now if want to scan it, my scanner chews up the paper pretty badly, anyone had this happen to them?3 points

Ha. We used to able to submit electronically but so few tax pros used it, the IRS killed it. (I hate you all.) I fax to CAF and check after a week. It takes 1-2 weeks most times.3 points

Fujitsu makes high end twain scanners but I prefer the cheaper ScanSnap scanners for ease of use. They also never die.3 points

Years ago, I used to buy paper at Costco. It's just not worth it due to jams etc. Especially, since Staples and Office Depot have name brand high quality paper on sale constantly. No more jams or feeding problems2 points

I which the fax machine would just disappear and the IRS would be forced to do everything via internet. We get 8821's and then look online to see where client stands with IRS before going any further in creating the engagement letter. It would be really neat if they didn't take 2 weeks.2 points

I usually fax it directly to the agent on the spot, I get what I need and if later on I need to call again, they usually forward the POA on your behalf.2 points

The 1120S K-1 doesn't have all of the same blocks as a partnership k-1 does. From the 1120S K-1 instructions, it should report weighted averages for all owners for the year, and be marked "final" at the top for the terminated owner. Please see the 1120S instructions starting on the pg 20 under "Special Rules - Termination of a shareholder's interest" and then pg 22 starting at "Item F" for how to calculate the percentage of ownership to report. Here's a link to the IRS for a pdf version of the instructions: https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1120s.pdf2 points

I have an ancient Kodak i1120 that I loved so much I bought a second on ebay. Twain compliant, very vertical paper path so almost no jamming, simplex or duplex scanning... the one downside is that the software is so old it's crotchety - but it works perfectly with Adobe Acrobat and Nuance too. FYI (and fyi for anyone else, too). If your scanner decides to write a novel, please let us know! Or maybe this one will last until the next appearance of Haley's Comet.2 points

I can see the board with Firefox at work or with my Chromebook at home. Either the board works very sloooowly or if you try to post more than one line your post disappears.2 points

I remember the official board being really ugly right before CCH shut it down in 2007, and not just related to the software. There were some truly awful people on there that were attacking other members on a very personal level with no repercussions.1 point

CCH requires the EIN if using the 1099 also and efiling. That's why I use the data entry screen instead of the facsimile 1099 form. No. I do not enter it literally on line 10 of the government form itself, but on the line 10 worksheet so the software can calculate the taxable amount (AMT reduces that for many of my clients) and handles it correctly on all the state returns. Why do you pick on me for saving a few keystrokes? I'm trying to save other preparers time in these last hectic days. I also have the Americans in Singapore for a few years with frequent trips to the states and NY rental income so pouring over their calendar. The couple with two 1099-Cs from their FL rental that fell into a sink hole. The gal that moved to OH but back again while her mother was ill and then back to OH when the estate closed and now back to CT; always just over a year for each stay; 2016 had her moving to OH in May but no earned income in CT but some tiny investment income waiting on dates to see which state... And the gal who moved to CA but thinks her W-2 is wrong so spent four days to come up with $5,000 that she wants me to use on the CA return as taxes paid to CT when she returned from CA after becoming a resident to close out the fiscal quarter for her company. And, the couple both self-employed, one in both NY and CT; wife's new business is skin care -- with inventory. And the 90-year-old whose prior preparer is in jail for stealing from his clients; she keeps everything but daughter can't find her prior year return in the stacks. The continuing client who comes in every two years with two sets of returns to prepare. The woman leaving for Uganda to care for her grandchildren for a few months so I have to finish this weekend. And our own!1 point

I have to disagree. I have a Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 *and* two Kodak i1120's; in my experience the more-vertical paper path on the Kodak makes it faster and far less likely to jam than the S1500. I find the S1500 also tends to double-feed if you put more than 8 or 10 pages in at once - not the Kodak. Stuff it until it barely fits, and it still won't double-feed. (Unless it's super-slick magazine type paper; those won't feed more than 1 or 2 sheets through anything worth beans.)1 point

Even with the increase in CA tax, it's still better to take the LLC. but I was hoping I could make it a lot better. Never hurts to ask around.1 point

If it turns out that there would be no change in the TP's 1040 with the filing of the Trust returns for past year, I would probably just file Trust returns from this point on and show the rental property as belonging to the Trust. If IRS got involved in a later year I would show "substance over form" and that there was confusion as to whether or not the asset was a Trust asset which was resolved during the current year. It has been my experience that IRS is not interested in "reinventing the wheel" if the bottom line tax situation would be the same.1 point

What about SS-4's? I have had two back-to-back "sorry we can't process your request" messages and now I'm waiting. And waiting....0 points
