  1. Ragnar Lothbrook is on his way. I am SOOOO happy to see another Vikings fan! My husband thinks I am a bit nuts but I loved that series. I just might have to have another go at it. Once I get the staples out, papers out of envelopes, all in order, etc.

  2. Robin...I'm just curious, why do you feel the need to show it as "unpaid"? Maybe I'm missing something but I also prepare my returns and my children's returns (both full time students) on ATX and show that I am the paid preparer. I keep sending my kids invoices and past due notices. I'm going to have to get a collection agency involved.

  4. And, my envelope opening fee, unfolding your documents fee, getting the pages in the right order fee, calling you to get the even number pages that you didn't fax fee,...

  5. Me, too. Worse yet, I'm starting to get more than a little snippy with clients. Instead of just hiking their bills. Some are going to be really horrified to see their bills this year, and I'm gonna show them how much TIME I spent chasing their hindquarters to give me information. If they walk for next year, good bleeping riddance.

  6. Thank you, all. I knew it was simple, and my quandry started with getting the asset off the depreciation schedule without it being only out of service. A former member from here gave me that easy solution over on the Drake forum. Everything has been harder where simple tasks are mountains to climb, but I'm trying to get through it. I'm going back to printing and stapling because I can't make too much of a mess of that.

  7. If any client EVER acknowledges bitcoin transaction, they will no longer be my client. That is simply beyond my expertise or interest.

  8. I have one that I used to call Document Processing but have changed it this year to Staple Removal Fee. It starts at $25. I don't charge for stuff that came to them stapled (you can tell) but I do charge for stuff THEY stapled. Our letter specifically tells people NO STAPLES!

  9. Dear LORD, I am fried good and proper. Help me not hug my next client who says, “I dunno, you’re the accountant, hahaha,” and slaps his knee.

  10. Only "taxpayers with excess APTC for 2020 are not required to file Form 8962." If your client is entitled to additional PTC, of course, you include the 8962!!

  11. Sorry, I forgot to reread the beginning of this thread. Just a guess here that you may have to use a non-professional tax software. Otherwise, can't you paid with alternate currency? Love, chocolate chip cookies, bitcoin (heh, heh)?

  12. Ha. I think I still have to watch the last season. I get them on DVD. I've watched it thru several times. I shouldn't admit this in public.

  13. Wow! A case could be made for either of those; but I would lean towards other income. She was not in the business of "offering to help out" and did not have a profit motive that would subject her to SE tax. So I see an argument against NEC. There is certainly not an issue of an employee gift vs bonus here. However, while there is an element of gratuitousness, the payment was in recognition of her efforts for the company in charge of the winding down process. Since the payment was made in recognition of her efforts; at a minimum I would call it other income with out further research.

  14. I'm still waiting for the form revision because those over 400% might well be entitled to additional credit, especially if they didn't take the full advanced credit they were entitled to.

  15. yes, if you have filled in the payments when paid under accounts receivable tab in return manager. then you can sort by amount paid column and the zero come to the top of the list, them mark the box and print marked list.

  16. IRS Newswire 9 Apr IR-2021-84 "The Internal Revenue Service announced today that taxpayers with excess APTC for 2020 are not required to file Form 8962, Premium Tax Credit, or report an excess advance Premium Tax Credit repayment on their 2020 Form 1040..."

  17. I took an IRS online free class about this area last August, so I double checked my thinking with the Tax Book: 1. The equipment comes out with the PTS adjusted basis, which is assumed by the partner. FMV of the equipment is not involved. 2. The PTS NBV of the equipment reduces the partners capital account. Easy peasy

  18. Gosh, it's been a lloooonnnggg tax season. I got (and passed) my second wind about two weeks ago; am now working on the third which is disappearing fast. Lost/non-received refund complaints are frequent. Think I'll ask the preacher to revise a prayer and invoke it for me - to wit: (from medieval Englishmen) "Lord, protect us from the wrath of the Northmen" -- to that I'll add ("and from the ravages of lost and unknown Stimulus payments to the lost and unknowing souls who declare {"think we got it/don't remember/seems like we did-maybe/part, but not sure which/is this any trouble?"}) It's downhill from here, so after 4-15 I'm disappearing for awhile and to heck with May 17th.

  19. The medicare tax was already sent to the government agency so the university doesn't have that money. I would just file 1040NR and get the amount withheld that the IRS will be glad to return to her.

  20. Sounds like more of the same bullcrap from last year, where they want the person to "prove their identity" for some unknown reason. Fraud - nah, that sails through with direct deposits right away! But, the same taxpayer, same ssn, same name, same address, same bank, refund roughly the same amount as prior years - now that is highly suspect and will be held up for months. Had one guy last year where we had to get the Taxpayer Advocate involved - he proved his identity, but the IRS employee he spoke with did not release the refund properly. Tell your client to watch like a hawk for a letter - it will have the phone number they'll need to call to prove themselves.

  21. Ragnar Lothbrook is on his way. My long hours end April 15 too. I'll do what I can on slow time to May 17, then extensions after that. Ky has conformed to May 17 but only some of the locals have conformed. So now I have to determine who has to file certain local business returns by April 15 and get those extensions ready and with a payment of some amount.

  23. Creating Links Between Fields source: http://files.cchsfs.com/doc/atx/2014/Help/14.3/Content/Both-SSource/Creating Links Between Fields.htm Use the Start Link and Finish Link feature to create a link between two fields on any form (including schedules and worksheets). This function, represented by the Start Link/Finish Link toggle button on the toolbar above an open return, links text or numeric values from one field (source field) to another field (destination field). After a link has been established, changes made in the Start Link field are reflected in the destination field. When checking a return for errors (Check Return), the Finish Link field (destination) will be marked as an overridden field. Start/Finish links automatically roll over from prior year or prior period returns. To create custom links: Select the source field. Do one of the following: On the toolbar, click the Start Link button. From the Edit menu, select Start Link. Navigate to the destination field on any form, schedule, or worksheet. Do one of the following: On the toolbar, click the Finish Link button. From the Edit menu, select Finish Link. If it takes longer than 40 seconds to finish the link, the request will be canceled. Destination fields have a green background. Creating links between fields: example of source/destination fields Canceling Relationship between Two Linked Fields To undo the link between two fields: Place the cursor in the destination (green) field. Do one of the following: On the toolbar, click the Restore button. From the Edit menu, select Restore Field. Press Ctrl+R. When the green background disappears from the destination field, you know the link has been removed. Exceptions: When Fields Cannot Accept a Link The following fields cannot be linked: Input or Detail Sheets Itemized Lists Circular references or mathematical loops Whenever a field cannot be linked, you'll receive a message that will alert you to this exception.
