  1. Thank you!
  2. Howdy folks, sorry to be making changes during the tax season. Within the next hour, I'm going to apply a new "skin" to the ATX Community Forums. It'll be more subdued and quite a bit less flashy, but all of the same functionality will remain in place. Bandwidth use for the site jumped about 10x last month over previous months, and this is an attempt to put the site on a little diet. If you absolutely hate the new look, please just give it a week to grow on you. If you still hate it, there will be an option to switch back to the previous look at the very bottom of the page on the left. I will add this option some time next week.
  3. Where are the exported returns located? I would think that the easiest way do this would be to copy all of the exported returns to some folder on the server, then go physically sit at the server, run the ATX software, and then import them all.
  4. Well, if each of the 550+ members sent in donations, it would take less than $1 each per year to pay for the hosting and software upgrades, but I don't think that's very likely to happen. And it's very much appreciated!
  5. Sorry about the downtime, as anyone who visited while the site was down already knows, the community had exceeded its monthly bandwidth allotment. I've purchased more for this month, and will upgrade the hosting package for next month to triple the amount of available bandwidth to make sure that this doesn't happen again.
  6. If you're having any trouble using the ATX Community website, this forum is the place to ask. If you're unable to log in to post a new thread, please send an e-mail to [email protected]

I can't get your password, but I can reset it. I'll send you an email with more information.
  8. The forum software upgrade is now complete, hope it didn't cause too much of a disruption.
  9. Thank you, it's very much appreciated :)
  10. It looks like the bigger issues have been resolved, and our site can stay put. The forum software still needs an upgrade though, but that shouldn't take very long. If the site does go down, it should only be for a few minutes.
  11. If the move does take place, it will likely be after 3:00pm EST. I can't be any more specific, because the hosting company will be doing the moving, not me.
  12. There is a possibility that the ATX Community will be moved to a new server tomorrow. If it does need to be moved, the site could be unavailable for up to 3 hours in the afternoon.
  13. I worked with a friend to create a brand new site for a local hospital: http://www.carymedicalcenter.org This is a more personal site, that is shared among a few friends and I: http://www.beaverbrookroad.net
  14. Thank you Stephanie :)
  15. My apologies. I was told that you had been let go. I've removed my previous post.
  16. Have you considered shin removal?
  17. It's usually not easy to match the checks to the usernames on here, but I really appreciate the donations that have been sent. You guys are great, thank you so much ^_^
  18. I just skimmed, so sorry if this has already been mentioned, but number 2 on that list is overkill for tax prep workstation. You're not going to get any speed boost out of ATX software with that video card. A beefy video card like that helps out the performance of games and 3D accelerated applications, but there is little advantage for most 2D desktop applications. If you really want to spend the money my suggestion is to get a $50 video card with dual outputs and spend the difference on the processor or RAM.
  19. It has been my experience that the password features on most common document formats are pretty weak. They'll stop the average person from opening the file, but in the case of Adobe Acrobat, a quick Google search will find tons of programs that you can buy for less than $25 that will crack a PDF password.

  21. Happy birthday Bob! I'm tempted to make TAXBILLY a "Birthday Police" avatar. ;)
  22. I just want to make it clear that ATX does not provide any support for this site, financial or otherwise.
  23. Thank you, and congrats! If you wish to donate, check out the red link at the top of the page.

    Just curious....

Google "indexes" the site regularly. A google bot visits and indexes all of the links and posts on this site, so that when people search for something like "ATX Community" (or any other relevant information found on this site) it'll show up in the search results. The forum knows what this indexing bot looks like, and shows it as an active member while it's crawling the pages. It does the same for Yahoo and some other search engines. As far as privacy goes, if you would rather people not see what posts you're reading or what area of the site you're on, you can log in anonymously. Your name will still be attached to your posts, but your movements around the site will not linked directly to you. To log in anonymously: 1. Log out 2. Go here: http://www.atxcommunity.com/index.php?act=Login&CODE=00 3. Enter your username and password, and put a check in the box next to "Log in as invisible" Sorry about the slow response, I'm in the process of moving. Ugh.
  25. Trees and tree limbs shouldn't be a problem.. I have a chain saw to take care of those obstacles. I'm really hoping I can get wireless internet, but line-of-sight to a transmitter is required. I can see a few towers from the house, but I'm not sure if they're wireless or cell towers... we shall see.
