  1. Consider all the headaches and stress she saved you!!!
  2. Your post indicates to me that there are many parts of how the ACA will be implemented that you are not aware of. MAJOR portions!! If you do not become knowledgeable, and give your clients a heads up about possible penalties in tax year 2014. Who do you think they are going to blame when you tell them that Uncle Sam is keeping from $95-$1,000 or more of their tax refund due to them not having adequate health insurance and they are not expecting it? We have had this dumped into our lap by Congress and then we also become responsible for not giving our clients accurate information, or for not collecting and reporting accurate information on the 2014 return. Waiting is a recipe for disaster!! Fees will be increased accordingly and more time will be needed for each client. Thank you Congress and Obamacare!!!
  3. I have not even worked on a return, so no e-files have been created. I don't have an answer unless it is under preferences and e-file.
  4. We never even looked at changing the preference for that before 2012. In 2012 it was the default setting. Lots of years of squinting to see the names of those forms that I did not have to. Guess you are never too old to learn.
  5. Read the pinned threads and all the posts I have made about 2013. Also check your messages.
  6. We have a client with a person who did subcontractor type work for her. The contractor refuses to fill out a W-9. I seem to remember a procedure to file the 1099MISC and address this issue to the IRS. Is there an additional form? We have always recommended that our clients do not hire anyone till after a completed W-9 is on file, but we all know how clients listen to us. Fortunately, we only have a few (3-4) of these every year. She paid this person about $4,000 so the amount is substantial to her business.
  7. Having the forms list on the left started with 2012. Less confusing on the left side.
  8. Are you using ATX for your tax software for 2013? The payroll program is essentially the same as the past two years, unlike the tax program which is entirely different.
  9. Having the forms list on the left is the best enhancement I have seen.
  10. Each state has different requirements for this situation. If he has not been compliant, he may be in for a lot of penalties! Be sure of the requirement before you advise your client.
  11. No one can file a return before Jan. 31, so relax and wait for the paper copy.
  12. My red flags go up when how much I charge is the first question. Not if I can handle their situation, know what I am doing etc.... People who would choose me based on price will run to someone else next year that charges less. I had a phone call a week ago... Her: "Is this Jack that does taxes?" Me: "Yes, how can I help you?" Her: "Do you do taxes with just my last paycheck stub?" Me: "No. That is illegal and..." Her: "Thank You. 'click'"
  13. "$2,000.00" Could be less depending on what you have in your return. It runs off those that are only shopping price. I do not need those clients.
  14. I just logged in, no issues.
  15. If a client that worked as a server in a restaurant said he/she had no tips, then I would say, "Then you have no refund." Why would you work there for just the half minimum wage they pay? I would then probably excuse them as a client. If they deliberately lied about tips, what other faulty information have they been giving me?
  16. I do not plan to transmit any returns before Feb. 7, to see if the system will survive. Hopefully it is not connected in anyway to heathcare.gov...
  17. Gina, There are several pitfalls to the process you have chosen. First: Forget EVERYTHING you knew about previous ATX programs. 2013 is NOT the same in any manner. I send you a PM. Check it.
  18. We are getting e-mails saying the same thing. "We should have our information ready for you in a couple of weeks."
  19. I very seldom trill rrrr, but at 58 I still have nearly all my hair....
  20. Use right click. Then choose copy.
  21. Click on the notifications icon at the top of the Return manager. There is an explanation in there. Turn any hibernation or sleep settings on your computer off and this will greatly reduce the problem. Do the same for all other computers in your network.
  22. It is not a medical necessity. I say no deduction.
  23. File now. The only delay is for paper filing 2013 returns.
  24. Yes e-filed. No on amended. Amended refunds must be mailed check.
  25. I prefer Brother Laser printers for the ability and ease and cost savings of refilling the toner cartridges. Refill for 20% or less of the cost of new. Each toner cart can be reused at least 2 times, with some as much as 4.
