  1. Make sure on the W-2 or 1099 input screen that the box is marked for "Add to Payer Manager." Also be sure that Payer Manager is checked in the preferences.
  2. Did you recreate and transmit again?
  3. Even if earned. Still below the threshold for filing requirement.
  4. COGS and supplies. No depreciation needed. No 3115 needed. He does not need to keep inventory, just the copies of the invoices where he purchased the windows.
  5. Does SSI have the same pass through as ordinary SS? SSI is not based on work history.
  6. Are you Karen Hawkins in disguise?
  7. Remember.... YOU did not make the tax law changes. Remind your client what the source of the new regs is. Encourage them to contact their representative and their Senators. YOU DID NOT CAUSE THIS!! And charge more for having to deal with it.
  8. Right on the money!
  9. Reality. A major factor in decisions. What process is EVER going to look at or show where the money came from? What IRS notice will be sent if the 709 is not created? What reporting would be done to trigger any of the above. Who is ever going to ask if the money came from a joint account, or a single account? Reality. A major factor in decisions.
  10. Too much effort.
  11. Agree with MaMalody
  12. It does not matter whose account it comes out of. They are married. The threshold is $14,000 per person per year. No form 709 is needed. No one will ever question this. Sleep well.
  13. There is no way to make any form added automatically unless ATX already has it installed that way.
  14. The IRS auditor first looks at the deposits in your bank accounts. If your income claimed on your return is equal or higher, the idea of understated income goes away. The IRS does not have the capability to look up all the tax returns you signed and ask you how much you charged. This is an irrational fear.
  15. I never understood why preparers are reluctant to put their name on as preparer for a pro bono return. There are no possible problems that can arise. Can you get around it? Not likely unless you print it and mail it in. Get the legislature to change the law? This is another attempt to thwart fraudulent returns and identity theft.
  16. You have an installation problem. A call to tech support, get past the first two levels, then a REAL technician will be able to help you.
  17. The issue arose from the clients not accurately estimating income when they applied for insurance on the marketplace. We have has several. The client will change numbers to get a larger subsidy, not paying any attention to the warning about reconciling on the tax return. People do not read, do not pay attention, and only care about what they can change to make the numbers in their favor. Every one of ours with Marketplace insurance have been that way. This payback WILL be enforced by the IRS. Not like the Shared Responsibility Payments that cannot be enforced.
  18. Those options were part of a program update. I think 14.2. However, choosing Line 21 with SE does add the income to SE without a Schedule C. How Philadelphia will treat it is another matter altogether. It is still my contention, that if it is subject to SE (Self Employment tax) it IS self-employment.
  19. I am the only afsp within 250 miles!!
  20. At least for now... I predict a recurrence. TT is good for my business.
  21. IRS = Lois Lerner = corruption from the top down = IRS Nothing new here....
  22. Messing with backup files is risky. Not recommended.
  23. HP is not Samsung.
