  1. So, when does prosecution of Geithner start? We are (or, at least, we were) a nation of laws, without a privileged elite to whom the laws do not apply.
  2. My deepest sympathies, taxbilly. And thanks to Marilyn for her post.
  3. Julie, Tom, and Gail -- Thank you all for the great laugh I had reading your replies! Julie -- I have gone by my full name since I graduated from college. When you're only 5 feet tall and look like you're twelve (at age 21), you need all the "grown-up-ness" you can get your hands on. I used to substitute teach (an alternative to accounting during engineering lay-offs), and at 26, teaching in a middle school, I got asked for my hall pass by one of the other teachers! Tom -- loved your comment. Gail -- if one of my clients ever manages to move me to violence, I'll use my bare hands! But that's extremely unlikely, as I can vent here, hike their bill, and then wave a final goodbye with a big smile on my face. By and large, I have wonderful clients. And every year I fire one or two who aren't as wonderful as the others.

New client this year; newly divorced, never done her own taxes before, LOUD and somewhat abrasive in voice and manner. Excuses for everything; took her FOUR appointments to actually get here and bring her documents. Got a whiny call AND email from her today wanting to know why her taxes aren't done, why I haven't called her, does she have to pick up her papers, deadline is approaching (5/11 here in MA), she's worried, yadda yadda blah blah SHUT UP BITCH!!!! Meanwhile, I've sent her THREE emails in the past couple of weeks all asking for the same information over and over and getting one item out of three - maybe. The last bits I need to FINISH her stupid returns. Just venting; thanks for listening (reading) and sympathy. Now I can send her another email without being bitchy back. But her bill just went UP.
  5. This is an IMPORTANT and very welcome improvement in the EFC.
  6. Twelve places to respond; I got eight. Didn't recall that the Lone Ranger was armed for werewolves, though. I missed the silver bullet, Freddy the Freeloader, and Rt. 66. Also missed the draft cards even though I knew it; brain blanked out on them.
  7. Here's an odd thing about my synching with the EFC -- I did NOT lose all my "completed" checks!! I gritted my teeth and was ready to lose them, but that didn't happen.. Your mileage may vary and with your client list I'd be VERY wary of trying. But I was really glad to not lose all my completed checkmarks. And also - CONGRATULATIONS on getting the kids all through school!!
  8. I had to go back to see it, as well. That's why proofreaders read -backwards- as well as forwards. Sentence diagramming. Now -there- is a memory that brings shivers! I think my elementary school teachers weren't very sure about it themselves, because they certainly could never explain grammar well enough for me to understand it. Learned what I do know of grammar by studying foreign languages, and how to write by reading good literature.
  9. And there's a lesson to me to try NOT to be a smart-aleck -- at least when I'm rushing!
  10. $395 regular price, $158 discount, so $237 was the post-discount price. And I was told that the renewal is 50% off the first-purchase price - so that should be $197.50 next year. Still paying for what -used- to be included, which is annoying. The claim was that there were too many complaints about it causing slow-downs and problems in the tax program, so they split it out. How would anyone EVER figure a slow tax program was caused by the asset manager? What-EVER.
  11. I just noticed that a Federal I filed on 4/20 STILL says "Transmitted to EFC" and the state is being held. I'm going to the EFC at MyATX and see if I can find out anything there. If not, then a call or email to ATX is on the list.
  12. Should not that verb form had better been "authoring"? (We need a smiley for nose-in-the-air!)
  13. Rita -- Glad to hear you're OK and hope that others are, including our colleagues/friends at Drake software too.
  14. A client of mine who is a MAJOR computer geek uses Kaspersky, for whatever that means to you. I figured I'd look at it sometime when the existing crises have been addressed and I have time to think about such items.
  15. Or perhaps you are both ROTFLYAO.
  16. I am. It sounds good to clients, I guess. Certainly no one has -called- me from their much-touted "referral" service. I get almost all of my new accounting clients through bookkeepinghelp.com (Cheryl & Jim Berry run it and do an excellent job). I also get some tax clients that way. The best thing about the ProAdvisor program is that, for roughly the cost of new software every year, you get QB Accounting Edition, Entreprise Edition (not that I've ever even installed it), and a special support phone number to access. The certification -- I did it for 2009 just to say I did. I think they've updated the program so you don't have to go through the whole hoo-rah every year; just a shortened upgrade-only course. So I may bother for 2010 in June or so. Hope this helps. Catherine
  17. I was also told by Troy that he would investigate and get back to me. Apparently there is quite a to-do going on over there with all of us calling with the same issues.
  18. is always amazed at how busy the post-season "lull" manages to get.
