  1. Speaking of the rebates... If DD refund, then DD rebate same info. If no DD now (balance due), then we're to add DD info to return so IRS can send rebate DD? Will that confuse the computers now with the balance due that is NOT direct debit? New situation, split DD refund with $500 into her IRA and rest into her checking account. Think I remember that IRS will mail a paper check for rebate in that situation, but cannot find it on IRS site now. Anybody else remember an example like this?
  2. I used Max as pay-per-return. Yesterday I received the ATX postcard. But, they'd be cutting their own throats since I now use ProSystem fx !!!
  3. Is she a dependent of her grandparents? If so, grandparents get an extra $300, right?
  4. I think my advancing age/ failing eyesight have more to do with me wanting a larger screen than just wanting the latest techie toy. But, we want bigger and more of them, too. Greedy, aren't we?!
  5. So, if next year or so, the kid gets a state refund, will the parents claim it as income?
  6. Does he meet the requirements of HoH?
  7. Nope. Year that includes the trust year-end date. If the trust's year didn't end until 11/30/2007, she wouldn't have had info back in April 2007 or earlier to file her 2006 return.
  8. Better read the NY directions. I had a colleague who had NY severence for a CT resident last year. I'm only remembering bits since it wasn't my client and was a year ago, but seems NY deemed the severence paid for services rendered in NY, or maybe a ratio. But, read the NY directions. And, think my colleague ended up calling NY after client received an invoice!
  9. Call your software company NOT. Look for a cancel or change status or hold or...button. Good luck.
  10. In CT you receive a credit for a tax LIABILITY paid to another jurisdiction, up to the amount CT would've charged. So, if this client has NO tax liability in other states, then he might not have a credit in his home state.
  11. You have to tell the IT-203C which spouse has no NY sourced income.
  12. I also have shied away from doing payroll to keep from being tied down. But, I hired a part-time assistant and now have my own to deal with. I'm using QB, which I get at a deep discount as a ProAdvisor. I just type in her hours for the period. Direct deposit. Info is automatically put in my QB file. They have several levels of payroll. Demos on their web site. Just read that Bank of America has a new payroll service. If you use their bank and if your direct deposit employees use B of A, then it's free! Didn't pay attention to the details since I'm already using QB, but worth checking out.
  13. I think it asks you a negative question, like which spouse has NO NY income? So, check how you answered all the questions. The right amounts should carry from the W-2s to the right states. But, that certification needs a check box or a S vs. T or something answered correctly.
  14. If you're driving, try very hard NOT to have to fill up while driving through CT. We have high gas taxes so high gas prices. I try to make it to RI or MA to fill up, or at least far away from Fairfield County and far away from highway interchanges.
  15. Have a wonderful vacation and a great rest of your life with your new beloved.
  16. I have a client with 4,400 trades, mostly wash sales! When I'm lucky, he's late getting me his information so we file off-season when I have more time for data entry.
  17. I received my LETTER today.
  18. I got a call just last week from ATX asking if I needed to buy their software or if I was happy with my new software....
  19. Boys would love the Liberty Bell, and there's a great science museum there, very hands on. Boys would also love the Boston Pops and putting their history in context around the Boston area. As much as I love Newport, RI, for boys I'd do Mystic Seaport, CT, instead. An amazing aquarium/amusement park with rides or get in the water with a dolphin and the Seaport with tall ships and Long Island Sound beaches and.... Go up to Gillette Castle where an actor designed a different wooden lock for each door and set up elaborate reflecting decor to spy on anyone who came to his door or guests who went into his liquor cabinet. Williamsburg, VA, is also very hands on for boys; and you can always treat them to Bush Gardens before you go home!
  20. Just make sure the nursing home resident is NOT the dependent of some one else.
  21. If someone in your home or office gets migraines or has epilepsy or other seizure disorders, do NOT use the florescent bulbs.
  22. 31 March?
  23. It's common for a household employer to pay for his employee's FICA. Employee might choose not to have FIT and SIT w/h. Employer settles up for federal payroll taxes, including FUTA on his Schedule H with his Form 1040. Check with what his state requires for household employer filings.
