  1. No, not using a real server. A peer-to-peer network, with one workstation dedicated as the server. Windows 7. All the appliction software and data files are on the server, on a mapped network drive, and the other workstations link to that server. Am I screwed this year?? Maribeth
  2. Jack, Have tried to reply to your post and have had troubles posting it, so will try again. I have installed ATX on the server, installed to a network drive. What is the difference this year? Do I set up the workstations from the server? I have updated everything on the server and the server is always the machine that gets the updates and does all of the efiling. Do I need to do something different? Maribeth
  3. From the other ATX board: 1. Make sure ATX is not open on any computer or workstation or server. 2. Delete all files inside the following folders called PersistentLock and Transient Lock ATX2012NetworksharePersistentLock ATX 2012NetworkshareTransient Lock Delete files, not folders. Delete the files insdie the specified 2 folders. Have not tried this but kept the copy of the posting just in case. Maribeth
  4. Just took the ATX webinar yesterday. They went through the client letters & the templates. You change the letters in preferences; however you can completely customize the templates in Client Communcation Manager and then use the templates instead of letters. (At least that is what I believe you can do). Check the templates and see if that will work. maribeth
  5. We have been only using the payroll module so far this year. Waiting for all the bugs to hopefully be worked out. Have scheduled all day tomorrow (Thursday) to work with ATX and FAM, customize as much as is possible, update everything, defrag, etc., and then set up the network. Will post back here after all of that to let you know how it went. If the network won't work, then I have read from other posters about not setting up the network at all, installing ATX on each workstation and then using the import/export feature to work on returns on each workstation and then export back to the server for efiling & permanent storage. Will try that if the network cannot be established & be stable. (using Win 7 with a computer designated as "server" and mapped network drives, just like you.) Maribeth
  6. Agree wholeheartedly with you KC. In fact, the gawd-awful print manager in ATX is why we went to FinePrint and pdfFactory pro several years ago. They are worth every penny and worth the extra time spent in deleting & rearranging pages virtually. Would never, ever be without those products now. They are a integral part of our business.
  7. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the details page. There is a register button at the bottom of the page that works. Do not use the link embedded in the details narrative. Maribeth
  8. So I understand that ATX has spun off the payroll software so that it can charge for this next year. I have gotten over my displeasure with this and I may or I may not renew the payroll part next year. All depends on how much ATX wants for the service. Having said that -- I am truly liking having the payroll service separate from the tax service. I have not had to customize/adjust/deal with error codes/pull my hair out/cry & scream with the tax service because all we are doing right now is payroll related & year end accounting. How great is that??!! When I finally do have to customize/adjust/deal with error codes in the tax service, it will be towards February and all of those issues should be already resolved! <<maybe wishful thinking>> Maribeth
  9. If you wish to print out the 2012 Organizer, and you wish to customize the forms, then you must customize the forms all over again. The customization from 2011 does not rollover to 2012. If you wish to print the comprehensive 2012 Organizer, there is a button somewhere in the Preferences that you have to check in order to print the comprehensive instead of the short organizer. hth, Maribeth

    12031

Mike, been efiling all day with no problem. Just tried again, no problem here. Maribeth
  11. Finishing it all up this weekend, will work Saturday & Sunday. Then Monday morning, heading up to the Canadian Rockies, gonna soak in hot water and drink cold Canadian beer. Life is good!
  12. Yep, having the same problems. Server is down. Probably for scheduled maitenance? (you know how clueless CCH is about this time of year.)
  13. Updates have been going fine. No problem with them. Somehow during the night FAM got fixed. Don't know what the problem was, but we can add assets again. Probably was something in our network. Maribeth
  14. And the FAM has a bug in it. Just started today as far as I can tell. Will not let us save an asset -- keeps telling us to fill in the red highlighted item -- yet there is no red highlighted item to fill in. We have rebooted the whole system, going to do our backups, and hope that when we come in in the morning, the bugs have disappeared. Nothing on the website about any problem. Maribeth
  15. Wow, very strange. We have been doing 941's since the last week in March. Just went and checked a client to be sure and yes, indeed, it is the 2012 941. Another of ATX's bugs. Maribeth

    NOL's

You only put the amount of the NOL that is going to be used on Line 21. You have to do an intervening year calculation first, then put the appropriate amount on line 21. Form 1045 has a worksheet for the intervening year. There is already a statement in ATX for NOL c/f's. I would "assume" that that worksheet goes with the efile. Maribeth
  17. 2012 tax year for your clients. Maribeth
  18. The statute runs from the year of the loss, not the carryback years. If the loss year is still open, the carryback years are open because of that.
  19. We use Time & Chaos and absolutely love it. Setting it up on the network is easy, it does everything we need it to do. I hate that we spent so many years trying to make Outlook work for us. Highly recommend Time & Chaos. Maribeth
  20. Rita, are you on a network? If so, look at your rollover tab. If that tab has lost its connection, then you won't be able to open a returrn in the return manager. At least, that has been a problem on our system. Also, if you are on a network, go to the server and open the return there first.
  21. Get Form 1045. Go to Schedule B. That is your intervening years calculation. Do the worksheet and it will tell you how much to put on line 21 for this year.
  22. Yes, I designate the printer that I choose to print to. That printer is a pdf printer, NOT the ATX pdf printer. Everytime I go to print, I get a dialog box that says "are you sure you want to use your pdf printer and not the ATX printer". And then I have to click that, yes, indeed, I want to use my pdf printer and not the ATX printer. One more click, for every single last tax return. That little box needs to be taken away. I will print to whatever gosh-darn printer I want to print to. I do not need ATX second guessing my selection. And why do I print to a pdf printer?? Because of the screwed-up print manager that ATX has. I got tired of throwing away pages & pages of paper because of ATX's screwed up print manager so I went and bought a pdf printer so I could go through and delete and rearrange the pages in the tax return without having to print them out on paper first. Maribeth
  23. Okay, this is part of the print manager but . . . . . Please get rid of the dialog box that pops up when you want to print to a pdf printer that is NOT the ATX pdf printer. That is one more click on every single tax return that I don't really need to click. I will print to whatever printer I decide to print to, and I do not need ATX second-guessing my choice.
  24. Talked with a nice lady at CCH today (June 3), Doreen Milton. Got through right away. Renewed quickly, she was very pleasant. She said it was just a horror show on 5/31/11, she was so glad things had calmed down. Maribeth

    BASIS

The trust was created at the time of mom's death. The spouse received his income during his life from the trust. Once the spouse has died, the trust is distributed to the children. The assets that were distributed to the trust upon the mother's death had a stepped-up basis. Activity inside the trust, as to buying/selling/reinvestments affect that basis. The basis to the children upon distribution is the basis that the trust has in the assets. It is NOT stepped-up or stepped-down because of the father's death. Maribeth
