J. Ron
I received notice today that I passed the RTRP test. Now as soon as a compliance check is done I will qualify for the designation.
grandmabee
So tell us about the test. What kind of questions did they ask? was it what you expected? where did they focus?
Margaret CPA in OH
Congratulations, Ron! Hope you are in compliance ^_^

J. Ron
The test was much more difficult than I had anticipated. The questions covered all the recommended study materials with a number on ethics issues. I would recommend that you be thoroughly familiar with all the study materials. One thing that I discovered was that in recent years I have begun to depend on my tax program too much. Even though I passed the test it has prompted me to go back and re-study the basic issues. TAXMAN
Question: Would I be better off to pass the rtrp test or try and go after the EA.

Lion EA
Go for the EA. You have until 31 December 2013 to fall back to the RTRP. But, to all our new and almost RTRPs -- a huge congratulations!

GeneInAlabama
Congrats J.Ron! I just got my letter. I passed, too!!!! Kea, J Ron said it was harder than he expected. What is your take on it? Easier? Harder? About what you expected? I have trouble remembering form numbers, code sections, etc. I have to look everything up. Think this will be a problem? J. Ron
Congratulations, Kea. To those who are asking about the test and whether to go for the EA I would recommend going for the EA.
Kea
I took the NATP class first and then used their sample tests online. Even though the real test was open book, I was doing the sample tests without them. I was missing a lot of questions and was really panicked. When I got to the real test I found it easier than the NATP sample tests. I went through and tried to answer all questions without the references. But I listed each question I wasn't sure of. I then went back through to look up the ones on my list and was able to find most of the answers before time ran out. They provide a Pub 17 and 1040 instructions. There were a few Circular 230 questions but you couldn't look those up. I am not a memorizer -- AT ALL. I don't try to remember code sections or anything I can look up. I don't think I'll attempt the EA exam. Good luck to everyone else who will take (any of) the exams.

Kea
I do recommend studying something (NATP or other). If nothing else, it gets you back into test taking mode.

ljwalters
Congratulations to both of you. just a note. The EA exam when I took it was NOT open book. You couldn't even take scratch paper in. They would give you some if you raised your hand. It was gruellllling.
