Windows operating systems are like Start Trek movies -- only every other one is good! W7 good; W8 bad. XP good; Vista bad. The series propagates backwards in time quite a way...3 points

All caps, because they stand out when I look at the page or the form as what I entered vs. what the form says. (And, a bit because that's the way Block trained me years ago and old habits die hard for me.) In my software, I can set it to print all caps on the forms but allow me to enter mixed case. I think that would let letters and other items remain as mixed text. But, that isn't of high importance to me, so I just hit Caps Lock when preparing a return and rely on Windows to notify me when I forget to turn it off when typing in another software.3 points

Now Rita, as my former math teacher, you know that some day tax preparers are going to be called upon to solve the Twin Prime Conjecture or some other problem plaguing the academic world. When that day arrives, the ATX Community will have the computing power to lead the charge.3 points

Windows 8 is great for any touchscreen device. I have used a computer that had Windows 8.1 on it (not mine) and my opinions and recommendations are still the same. Great for a touchscreen device ONLY.2 points

Here's what you need to ask an attorney, that you can't figure out on your own. First, whether you are a defendant or just a witness. What information they are seeking. What information they already have. What questions are safe to answer. What questions you are not required to answer. What questions would be unethical to answer. What questions you can demand payment for answering (as an expert witness). What expenses you can demand payment for. How to schedule a reasonable time and place. Whether the interview will be recorded, by whom, and with what technology. And then there are all the circumstances of alleged collusion. Start with your engagement letter (or if none then anything else that explains the relationship, such as correspondence, interview notes, invoice and payments, third-party referrals or info, etc.) Who your client was, one of the partners or the partnership as a separate entity. Whether your services included analysis or advice other than tax preparation. You should get legal advice on all of these things, even if you go to the actual deposition or trial on your own. Your lawyer's fees will be tax deductible, at least.2 points

I just received an email from Mr. Cooper apologizing for the confusion and stating that he contacted ATX and had my account released. I will contact ATX tomorrow to see if things have been cleared up.2 points

I am not cheap. I am frugal. I save zip lock bags (if they have not contained meat), wash them and re-use them. I write my grocery lists on the back of junk mail envelopes. I use the portion of the page for tax payment coupons that I have cut off as scrap paper. I try not to print unless I really need a hard copy. I used to re-roll my adding machine tape and run it through the calculator the second time to print on the other side, but that becomes a pain if you need to tear off a tape and attach it to something to show your addition. I prefer to think that I am doing my bit for the environment.2 points

That's another big savings some people achieve--no bath towels (no baths). Keeps the water bill down too.1 point

I don't use softener either. I might use a little white vinegar in the rinse, but usually not. I don't think softeners are necessary, and I don't want or need more chemicals or perfumes. Microfibers will say to not use softener because it is a petroleum based product that actually coats and clogs the little microfibers and makes it less absorbent. I also wouldn't use it on kitchen or bath towels either for the same reason. I don't think any of these products are needed.1 point

It's not a problem I have encountered. Multiple PDFs open in multiple windows for me. No crashing or rebooting. You might consider checking to see if you have the latest version or uninstalling/reinstalling the software.1 point

I have found that a half a dryer sheet is *plenty* for a load. Back when they used to be sliced part-way through, I used 1/4 sheet per load. Now that I have to cut them I've gotten lazy and only cut 'em in half. Have a pair of scissors that lives in the dryer sheet box and every now and then I'll chop a decent handful of them all at once -- one pass. The used ones are great for shining faucets, too.1 point

If it is off of a network setup it is not that datapath. You have to go into the workstation folder. I suggest calling them and they will walk you through the install.1 point

I will take printed paper that does not have sensitive information on it and cut it into 4 sheets and put them in my note holder. I almost always have a coupon when we go out to eat (we always tip on the full amount, usually 18 percent). At Christmas time, when restaurants give a $5 bonus certificate for every $20 or $25 worth of gift cards, I'll stock up on the cards (use some for gifts, the others, we use for ourselves, plus we have the bonus certificates!) I pay large bills with a credit card that has rewards for gasoline at a specific chain. One time, I got gas at 90 cents a gallon! I always pay the credit card off each month. My business credit card rewards program is gift cards, I always get the restaurant gift cards. I save the used dryer sheets and on another load, I can use two of the used ones.1 point

RUMOR has it that even with fleeing Europe, etc. because of religious persecution, the Pilgrims and "others" had a discussion on whether or not to allow "LAWYERS" to come to America ------ they decided yes AND we all lost ...1 point

I do all of the things Gail does to save money on paper. I re-use paper printed on one side to print things like excel worksheets on the other side. I usually print things on a pdf before printing it on paper to make sure i don't print unwanted second and third pages. I generally avoid places where valet parking is required. I don't like waste even if it is just a penny or two, but if I need something, I don't waste a lot of time trying to get the cheapest thing of its kind. I place convenience ahead of savings unless it is big bucks involved.1 point
