Surprise, Surprise, I have just been notified that September is my Official ATX Anniversary Month ! Therefore, I can still renew before October 1st and receive my May Renewal Discount. Woah, who knew that ATX had Official Anniversary Months.4 points

It's a race to the bottom with Equifax. At this rate they will pass Comcast on the way down. I must say that after 20 years with ATX, I have finally decided to throw in the towel and switch to Drake.4 points

This thread is funnier (and more informative and enlightening) than the 3 bears Charmin commercials. But the best TP story I ever heard was a client of mine (who passed away 10 years ago at 97 y/o) was part of the Norwegian resistance during WW2. He and another guy wrote memoirs on a roll of TP. I assume the paper at that time had more substance. They wrote a book about it....the resistance, not the TP.3 points

No but I've noticed the width shrinking in recent years.... but I'm ok with that. Just looks silly on the standard holders these days.3 points

When I was in the Air Force there was a base regulation about how to hang toilet paper. I was to roll over the top.3 points

So that explains why so many places have one-ply scratchy toilet paper, and come to think of it crappy paper towels that don't dry anything. I used to think they were just being cheap, which made no sense because one has to use five times as much to do the job. It's really because of the bandits. I'm so glad I work in a "classy" place where instead of stealing the goods, we've been known to bring in a roll or two from home when the supply is low and no one has time to go to Costco. (Their Kirkland brand toilet brand is THE BEST and is still wide enough to fit the dispenser when the name brands chopped the width.)3 points

Friend of ours works at a paper product factory (paper towels, TP, diapers and so forth). Wife complained to him one time the toilet paper rolls were getting smaller and smaller and his reply was that maybe her butt was getting bigger and bigger. Thankfully my wife took it for the joke it was, friend's wife on the other hand did NOT think it was funny at all. One of the many places I worked in college was a collections agency. The workers found the supply closet unlocked one night by accident and a girl took about 30 of those massive TP rolls and a case of paper towels. Declared it her bonus for a job well done!2 points

I used to do this, too, back when I worked for other people instead of myself. Not to steal paper! Rather, because it was a *long* drive home, and even longer if there were traffic snafus. No sense in getting halfway home to realize you should have stopped before heading out, and being miserable the rest of the drive!2 points

And have you noticed the larger size of the cardboard rolls the paper is wrapped around? Seems the diameter is twice the size as it used to be. Makes the rolls look larger but maybe less paper.2 points

I worked in corporate for 2 (very long) years when I was young and dumb. I remember there was a girl in our accounting dept that every single night went to the bathroom before heading home. Only after I worked there for some time did I realize she was taking a roll of toilet paper home with her every night. I couldn't believe it.2 points

Today the U S banned the use of Kaspersky Labs security software at all federal agencies. Actually, I am very surprised this took so long, since the founder and CEO of Kaspersky learned his craft while working for the KGB. According to U S Intelligence Agencies, Kaspersky still has very close ties to the Kremlin. The U S is so gullible, we don't realize the opposition is playing for keeps !1 point

Yes, it's not free, you have to give them a debit or credit card and you have to go all three services. You can do a 90 day fraud alert for free.1 point

As long as we're relating TP stories, when I was in the Navy on an aircraft carrier, the stalls had a side fixture for tp. But they didn't put the tp there. They strung a chain along the back overhead down a row of stalls. Then put the tp rolls on the chain and arranged them so a couple of rolls were in back of each stall. You had to stand up, turn around and reach back to the tp for the job. Up and down several times to complete the necessary work. This is not a joke.1 point

I just got a surprise US Treasury check with no explanation other than this obscure SOC SEC FOR INS notation. Turns out it was a refund of a Medicare payment deduction.1 point

What version of ATX are you using? I am using TTO and I did not receive a message when I used Sec. 179. It figured the 4562 with it for an 1120.1 point

**it happens! A friend's wife used to be a supervisor at Time-Warner's corporate office in Memphis and we also were astounded when she told us that management had installed miniature padlocks on the toilet paper holders in all bathroom facilities. Apparently the employees were making off with them on a regular basis.1 point

It appears all the credit companies are completely swamped! I was able to install the freeze on the accounts but I can't get a free credit report because the sites are swamped. What a mess.1 point

The feature on the website that tells you whether or not your information may have been part of the hack can't be trusted. Making up a last name and putting in 6 random digits for the end of the SSN returns a random response... at least that was my experience over the weekend. Other people have reported that they have checked their own information multiple times, only to get different answers each time. I think it's safe to say that the website isn't returning results based on actual data. I guess that explains why they suggest you proceed as if your information has been compromised, no matter what the results of that query are--I expect they have no idea who has been affected.1 point

Two things - a freeze as I know it is supposed to stop people from getting loans (credit) in your name - not get your information illegally. You have to go to all 4 credit reporting agencies or you've done nothing. Sadly you have to pay money to all four even though you never agreed for them to collect the data in the first place. Isn't that a nice business model? Second, don't trust the Equifax website on whether your information was hacked or not. The first run through basically said nobody was hacked if you looked up your individual name. The second run through said you might have been hacked regardless of the information entered and I don't know about now. Basically, don't trust Equifax regardless of what they say.1 point

I don't think so. This season I turned one away, they left my office at eleven, I went to lunch at 11:45 and their car was parked in front of Block's. So, no problem for them. Too bad though; they weren't a PIA and (later) took two relatives with them. Damn those confounded ethics anyway; all l had to do was agree that since the installment buyers of their spare house "just make the bank payment" any fool could see there was no gain. You're right about ditching a terrible client though. I priced one out of the office over ten years ago and still get a touch of euphoria every time I see that crummy #%*&^@. Life is soooo much better........ If I didn't dislike his successor preparer so much I'd feel really bad about it.1 point

I am really glad to see this thread. I had been struggling with a couple of knotty problems on some remaining corp returns. Had completely forgotten about the new due dates for C corps. So I just now revised my work schedule for the upcoming week, knowing that I need to wrap up two S-corps by Thursday/Friday and I can postpone a couple of C-corps until after I take a break. Thanks for this timely post.1 point

This is a copy of the official IRS news release explaining the change dated February 8, 2017: "A new revision of the Instructions for Form 7004, updated in the last few days and available at IRS.gov/LatestForms, correctly reflects that calendar year C corporations are eligible for an automatic 6-month extension. Although Internal Revenue Code section 6081(b) provides a 5-month automatic extension period for calendar year C Corporations, the IRS is granting a 6-month automatic extension under section 6081(a) instead. This change is reflected in the new revision of the Instructions for Form 7004. We have posted this article because the IRS wants to reassure the tax professional community that the information is correct in the Form 7004 instructions regarding the automatic 6-month extension and explain that the reason it's correct is section 6081(a). Information regarding Form 7004 and its instructions is always available at IRS.gov/form7004."1 point

The big problem here is that there is absolutely NO way to opt OUT of having your information sold. Grrr.1 point

According to the Equifax website, neither my wife or I had our information exposed. Yea ! On the other hand, I just downloaded my free credit report from Trans Union and I noticed that in the last eight months at least 8 different financial institutions that I have never heard of have requested credit information about me. So now I get it, if you are a supposedly legitimate financial institution, you can just buy someone's personal credit info from one of the big 3 credit reporting services who are more than happy to sell it to them, since they are very profitable businesses. This is the dark side of free enterprise. Everything is for sale ! #*#*#*1 point

One out of 7 people that receive these calls send money. It is a very lucrative hobby, so a couple of hours a day is all they need.1 point

Hubby called them late afternoon and kept them talking for a long time. We managed four calls to them from our four phones. Scum.1 point

I read that these criminal gangs are so good that their phone systems are programmed to accept calls only from numbers they have dialed. If they call your home phone and you return the call on your cell or work number it won't go through.1 point
