  1. I got my forms early, filed and then I got a corrected 1099 reducing "qualified" dividends and got a K-1 form for a small amount. The additional tax due is so small I think I'll just wait and see if they bill me
  2. Forget it. They won't pay you unless you go to court--and attorney fees would be at least $1000
  3. Too busy to do a return that would take 5 minutes or less?
  4. Unless you have a large amount in them, the best place for them is in your IRA. UBIT is unlikely.
  5. Years ago I had a client whose ex-husband always filed first and claimed the kid--to which she was entitled to claim. So her efiling bounced. I had to re-submit it without claiming the kid, then after she got her first refund, I would file an amended return claiming the kid. And she always got the second refund
  6. I always deduct painting by the numbers as CPE
  7. I've taken it and a lot of clients have taken it and NO ONE has been questioned. I think the IRS claims that they pay close scrutiny but don't.
  8. I take the standard deduction but have dividends, interest, capital gains, SS, IRA RMD, and have an installment sale involving principal and interest, but as a former tax pro, I can handle it.
  9. That would help me although it would not simplify my fairly simple return since i take the standard deduction already.
  10. For $55 you can download Tax Act which will do any kind of 1040 and one state return. If you have no Schedule C, it is less than $55. Since I am no longer a professional tax preparer, I use Tax Act to do my return and my two daughters and their spouses'. The best way is to fill out the forms, then go to the interview method to make sure you haven't overlooked anything. Then try e-filing which will catch anything else you have overlooked
  11. I had a client who was advised to take her money out of an IRA and buy an annuity. I told her "Don't do it.
  12. I've received several such emails. It looks like a scam even if they do list you as "best"
  13. When someone asks "How much do you charge for a tax return," I tell them that most returns are $100 to $500. They hear $500, and most don't pursue it further. If they ask how much, they are shopping. Someone once told me "That's pretty steep--last year I only paid $15." Maybe they wanted someone who woud only charge $10. .
  14. I email it all to the client and tell them they can forward it
  15. I get emails all the time about my timeshare and I don't even have a timeshare
  16. Just fill it out with phony information.
  17. I'm glad I retired and don't have to put up with this nonsense
  18. Yahoo and Newsmax are good sites for political discussions. Viewers can comment--agreeing or disagreeing with the articles
  19. I've never explained it to the IRS and always have taken it all from ONE account
  20. People who rely on EIC to pay bills should not be the tail that wags the dog. They should just wait until April and after a one time delay they would be OK to wait 12 months for the next EIC.
  21. That only gives the IRS 15 days to verify e-filed returns, They should delay those refunds at least a month or maybe until April.
  22. Originally I bought a Nook, but it eventually became impossible to get library books on it, so I bought a Kindle which works fine both with library books and Amazon. Bookbub has a lot more Amazon books than Nook or other devices
  23. I've clients who left papers with me and never came back. After four years I destroy the papers
