  1. Oh Joan, I am so very sorry. Cherish the memories. lynn
  2. A couple of spanish banks, Santander for instance, have branches in the Northeast U.S. If your client has accounts with Santander, or another spanish bank with branches here, perhaps the refund could be direct deposited to the U S bank and then the client could arrange for transfer to their spanish branch account.
  3. Not going to happen in my practice. My client's tax returns will be prepared according to current law, which was not changed by the EO. All due respect to Beanna Whitlock, but she's come up with some other ideas which OPR stated were unconscionable.
  4. My office and house are also 9 miles apart. Morning commute is about 20 - 30 minutes; afternoon can vary from 15 - 45.
  5. SSA is aware of a glitch in their system and expects it to be fixed by 2/20
  6. I made the same blunder as jasdim and appreciate seeing this thread. With this info I was able to efile the extension for my deceased mother's 1041. Thank you all .
  7. Where I live I will not accept a post-dated check as then if it bounces I have no recourse with the sheriff. By accepting a post-dated check it is deemed that I knew it would not be honored and accepted it anyway. The only recourse with the sheriff on a bad check is if it is currently dated, and it also helps to have a copy of the issuers drivers license.
  8. Did you click on the efile button? I have found the letter continues to state mail in instructions until the efile has actually been created.
  9. This is a repeat webinar - it was first aired in either December 2016 or January 2017.
  10. Today I received the prompt to change my ATXpassword. I changed only the last character and it passed muster.
  11. Your client lives in the US? Your client is a US citizen, or green card holder? US citizens, no matter where they live, and green card holders are required to report their worldwide income. Yes, your client must report the sale of the house in Norway. She needs to provide you with the FMV on the date of death of the person she inherited it from, the cost of any improvements or renovations, and a copy of the sale papers (translated into English).
  12. There's an option in your preferences to opt for all caps, or to opt out of all caps.
  13. Of the (1) return I have seen done by Ohio preparers, they don't charge near enough IMO.
  14. Illmas I think one reason people don't complain about the big box company fees is because they are getting refunds larger than their withholdings due to EITC, CTC, etc. - it's not their money to begin with, so what difference does a higher fee mean when in the long run they still have more $ in their pocket. If I am totally off base here, please call me out on it.
  15. Or check the form availability on the ATX Support website, www.support.atxinc.com - you will have to log in first.
  16. Have you reviewed the withholding tables in Pub 15? Probably one reason the high earners owe is that their withholding is based solely on their W2 earnings. In my experience often the high earners also have high levels of interest, dividends and capital gains.
  17. Won't it also depend on the state's filing threshold ?
  18. You are using AL Forn 40NR , and not the 40, right ?
  19. I ordered mine from CFS Tax Tools. Nelco is another vendor. Did you look at Office Depot or staples or similar big box stores?

We currently are working on identifying a permanent solution to this inconvenience, but we have identified a third-party workaround that may help you to continue working uninterrupted ahead of the January 31 W-2 deadline: 1) Install Foxit PDF viewer https://www.foxitsoftware.com/downloads/ (This is a free software.) a. 21. NYS Now Requires TP Driver License info on NY Tax Returns To those of you who prepare NY tax returns - please be advised that there is a recently passed provision requiring taxpayer (and spouse) driver license ID information - which at present - is required for 2016 tax returns. While NYSSEA does not have anything specifically definitive in had to provide even its own members at present - we were advised by top NYS tax officials that it is law. Some software companies are aware of it - the major ones- some are not. I strongly advise you to consult your software vendor regarding this issue ASAP before you begin processing NYS returns. Since there's so much controversy over this issue on such short notice - a number of issues are unclear at this point. Should I get any further more concrete, definitive, better descriptive information - I'll write back here. NAEA is ALREADY aware of it and researching it.
