  1. All unemployment taxable. Just look at the 1099-G.
  2. Tax Support - Online & Tax Software Product ... - H&R Block Customer Support Customer Support. Contact our support team at 888-482-9288 ...
  3. Simply ignore the file size warning. I have done it dozens of times. It just takes a few more seconds to transmit, with the large file attachment.
  4. Just bite the professional bullet, and replace all the W7 machines with W10 machines. It is almost 2021, like it or not. You will get very little, or no tech support from ATX for W7, and later versions, may not work properly. It is a cost of doing business. May require an increase in your fees. I bit the bullet last season, increased my fees 10%, and have had no complaints about my fees.
  5. FIRE HIM ASAP. Your professionalism is worth much more that the freeloader.
  6. If you follow this path, the grandparents will pay a 10% penalty, due to the disbursement, from them, was not used for education. The funds will be considered a gift to the parents. This is why 529 plans should only be in the parents' name. Grandparents can give cash to the parents, then it can be put in the parents' 529 plan, which will not affect the FAFSA calculation at all. It is a good thing that the grandparents want to help, but they were not given information about the proper way to do so.
  7. I have convinced all my clients NOT TO PARTICIPATE in the deferral. I see no benefit for anyone.
  8. I need someone, younger than me, that is proficient with Windows Media Player, on WIN10 operating system? I have .wav files in a folder, and want to create a music CD. I managed to get 1 cd done, but I'll be hanged, if I can do it again. I need to make several copies, as these files are from company teaching seminars, for employees to use for study. Any geeks out there that can help me?
  9. Be ready to be a QB teacher. Your client will not know how to configure QB correctly.
  10. Our experience has been just the same as Yardley. Still, there are a number of people that should NOT own a computer, or trying to do things with their phones, that should only be done with a computer. I have stopped being a computer use teacher, and recommend Fax or USPS. (rant over)
  11. Read the cover page of www.irs.gov There is a complete explanation there.
  12. You hit it right on the head. Could be 3-6 months.
  13. I need some recommendations from all the geeks/nerds out there. I just had catastrophic failure (Hacking virus) of hard drives on my 2 main computers. I am having to reload all the programs. (I had all my data files, for all the programs, backed up on an external hard druve. I need to extract a .rar file. What program do you use or recommend for extracting files from a compressed file? I know there are several of you techies out there...
  14. Let them go. If the only thing they are looking at, is your fees, they will find someone cheaper next year. 21 years in this business, and I have a long file drawer full of "looking for cheap" folders. "If you are looking for the cheapest, I am not the person to talk to. If you want the best in the area (Mention any credentials) then we can talk. When a person asks "What do you charge?", I ask them to send me a complete copy of their previous return, then I can give them a more accurate quote. (subject to change, if situations arise). Also, if people start complaining about my price, next season there will be an increase. I find out, if they come to me for my professionalism, or just a price.
  15. I do not do batch extensions. You get no confirmation number. I open each return, add 4868, fill in appropriately (usually all 0) then efile the extension like I do a return. This way you get an acknowledgement number when it is accepted. If there are problems down the line, that you must have proof that the extension was filed, nothing but the electronic confirmation number will do. Not even the green card from mailing them certified. CYA Do them one at a time in each extended return. A word to the wise is sufficient.
  16. I found the answer. SS took the collection amount, out of her benefit. Nothing to do with his SSA-1099.
  17. Married couple for 50 years. He was a pastor, she was a homemaker. He was 80, when he passed, she is 78 for tax year 2019. Husband passed away 12/19/18. They sent his 12-2018 payment. Then with lightning speed, they reversed the payment in Jan, 2019. Here is my dilemma. They sent two SSA-1099 forms. One has her name on it, and it is all correct. The second one is in his name and SS number, but with a negative number in box 6, exactly the amount that was reversed for 2018. How do I report this? Any help would be appreciated.
  18. Shred/burn it. The government does not have any purpose for having that information.
  19. Apple computers are very sickly when trying to use tax software. Take the Apple computers back, and buy PCs. If you change to Apple, you will have never ending problems, because software companies will not spend development money on software, that less than 10% of the computers out there can use. DO NOT BITE the poison apple.
  20. Anything paper filed, will take at least a year to be processed. IRS is renting trailers to store all paper returns, until this virus thing is over. Paper filing will mean extremely long wait for it to be processed.

  23. It has become the national obsession. Had a client call me, wanting to know what form he needed to fill out, to be sure he got the large amount. (Returns are filed, except 2019) He said, "We don't need the money, we are just going to put it in savings." I told him to check the IRS website. He then started ranting about why it is taking so long for his to come in. (His neighbor, a barber, had received his and he was almost demanding that I do something so he would get his. I also told him to call 800-829-1040 if he had questions, because I have no information, and cannot do anything for him to get that money "as quick as we can." I guess his bank had timeframes for putting money in his savings. He then tried to call me out, because he had not received his stimulus. I have one less client for 2019 taxes now.
