I was not aware that the definition of married had changed??? If they filed MFJ, you will need to amend twice changing each to single. Charge them plenty!! If they have not filed, be wary of taking them on as clients...

Foreign income - Earned income credit.
Jack from Ohio replied to Jack from Ohio's topic in General Chat
More clarification, She is an American citizen, unmarried. She has a child with a Costa Rica citizen. She made several trips home so grandma could see the baby, so she probably only spent 300 days in Costa Rica. She does not qualify for Foreign Income Exclusion on Form 2555. -
These situations are more symptoms of the nationwide debilitating disease known as Intentional Apathetic Ignorance. It is highly contagious, and completely addictive.

Change the automatic update settings to download updates and allow you to choose when to update. This will stop the overnight reboots for updates. Find the settings in Control panel.

Client works as a teacher in Costa Rica. She pays Costa Rican income tax and Costa Rican Social Security as well. She spent less than 330 days in Costa Rica in 2014. Completing her return, Form 1116 gives her credit for taxes paid in Costa Rica, so no U.S. Federal tax due. Here is the question: Does her foreign income allow her to have Earned Income Credit? Her U.S. home is in Wyoming. Anyone with experience here would be greatly appreciated.

$65K and at least a 3 year waiting list. I started it up and revved the engine. Sounds and feels like a BEAST!! Red line is 7K. That is 202mph in high gear.

People that use I-pads or Tablets as computers inflict painful problems on themselves. Anyone attempting tax software on an I-pad or tablet is bound for many issues. Tablets manufactured by ANYONE are NOT COMPUTERS! Smartphones are NOT COMPUTERS.

The next time you see the server connection issue, do not PANIC and start deleting and reinstalling the programs. This is part of the issue you are having. You will need to wait on tech support to correct your issue. An error message does not mean to scrap everything and start over. 2012 is history.

If the client requests a transcript, information will be on it. -
I read the OP to say $14K. No property was mentioned.

Social Security Number for Dependent - "Applied For"

KC is 100% correct. -
I cannot believe how much discussion is on this thread. Schedule A, just like all dental work. Any request by the client to add it to Schedule C should be met with some kind of statement pointing out the outright fraudulent nature of that request. Is the client really ready to spend thousands of dollars to preserve a $1K "business deduction?" To keep it, he would probably have to end up in tax court. However, SFA did say the client was an attorney, so maybe my last statement may not be too far fetched...

Got My Call from the IRS Scammers This Morning
Jack from Ohio replied to JohnH's topic in General Chat
The scammers use internet phones and spoof the phone number. Impossible to trace. Police won't get involved. The best defense, if your clients are savvy enough to listen, is to simply hang up. Stats are one out of seven end up giving money. -
$14k per person per year with no gift tax form requirement. If married, spouse can also give the same amount. In your example, if the taxpayer is married, each niece can be given $28K per year with no tax consequences on either side. NOTE: The recipient of a gift NEVER pays taxes on the gift.

And removing the insatiable need of Americans to get their refund RIGHT NOW!!! This is the driving factor for the way the system is structured. Thereby giving the fraudsters free reign. Comes down to greed by the average American citizen, and the disease of INTENTIONAL APATHETIC IGNORANCE. -

Yes. Send your client the following: Hello Client, Here is the link to the IRS page concerning your situation. Follow the steps on the page. Call the phone number and follow their directions. Only the person whose SS# has been compromised can speak to the IRS. http://www.irs.gov/privacy/article/0,,id=249802,00.html Your return(s) will need to be paper filed and will need to include form 14039. I will include them with the return. You will also need to send legible and readable copies of your Driver's license and Social Security Card. I have sent way too many of these this year. Both returns will need to be paper filed. -
Does everyone understand that we can now charge for preparation on a contingency basis? Tax court ruled that preparing a return is not practicing before the IRS. Have the receptionist say: "35% of your refund, $200 minimum for 1040, additional forms extra."
