  1. I agree with you, Max. Another way to put it is "separate maintenance decree."
  2. So sorry for you loss, Joan. Pets are more than pets. Those little spirits have a profound impact on us. Thinking of you~
  3. Glad it wasn't the 5th. He might have pulled out a bottle of JD!
  4. OH MY ACHIN' BACK!!! I KNOW!!!
  5. In a pinch, I use my IPhone as my hotspot, and I have GoToMyPC so I can access my home desktop from anywhere. It is rare that I need to do that, but it works well for me.
  6. I did 7 yesterday, 12 total so far. It is eerily quiet in my office today. The calm before the storm.
  7. It is a good question, but please don't research it. Someone was asking for a DIY'er who didn't know that a SIMPLE IRA was anything other than a traditional IRA. I just had my first DIY laugh of the season. Sorry... wish I could delete the original question.
  8. Can a ROTH contribution be re-characterized to a SIMPLE contribution? I read that the ROTH can be re-characterized to an "individual IRA" but does that include SIMPLE? https://www.irs.gov/Retirement-Plans/Retirement-Plans-FAQs-regarding-IRAs-Recharacterization-of-Roth-Rollovers-and-Conversions Thanks~
  9. I had a similar question today, LLC or Trust. He is looking at it from a liability standpoint as well as a tax slant. I believe they are taxed the same way, with limitations on losses, when they are not a realtor. My client is a loan officer, not a realtor, as well.
  10. I got 2 letters this week. Yes, let the "fun" begin!
  11. My SEHI increased by almost $1500 this year, my tax prep fees jumped, too. I always increase my prices. Always.
  12. Sch C or C-ez. Trust Rita! She's right!

    2013 efile

I thought the only prior year efiles were business returns. Maybe that is a Taxwise rule?
  14. The refund will be taxable in 2015, and if the state is like VA, a 1099 will be issued. I also believe the amount applied will be deductible in 2015.
  15. I wouldn't put it on a C, he is not employed by flipping this house. I wouldn't use an E, it is not rental property. The Sch D is the only place I would have put it. It is clearly investment property. I don't usually chime in, so wait for another opinion.
  16. It is a scam. I researched it when I got the same letter. Stay away from it. Do not respond to it, either. That response will validate your email address to the scammers.
  17. I have a financial advisor, and I respect most of them. I had one firm courting me to work my own business out of one of their offices. They were going to give me an office and even a receptionist. I politely declined because it would have been a conflict of interest in my own eyes, because I work with several financial advisors. I fully agree with you, JohnH, about the inherent conflict.
  18. "Jonnelle Marte notes that the new measures do not change the deadline for when employers need to send W-2 forms with taxpayer information to the IRS - a move that would give the agency a chance to verify returns before issuing..." That speaks volumes. Verify the W2s before allowing any return to be filed. So your refund is late. Big deal. If you are getting WITHHOLDING back, adjust your withholding so that you aren't getting a big fat refund. If you are getting any refundable tax credits, "free money," you can wait for it. It's not right that somebody can walk into any tax office and walk out with thousands of OUR tax dollars, many times using OUR tax dollars to pad the pockets of companies who overcharge and hide the fees by withholding the fee from the refund. I love what I do. And I only do taxes. But in my 20 year career, it sickens me to no end the money that is given away fraudulently. Verifying the W2's and doing away with refundable tax credits would clean house. CLEAN. HOUSE. Why does that seem so simple to me? Am I right?
  19. I agree with you, jmdaviscpa, for what it's worth... and that ain't much!
  20. I'm not "blaming" ATX, but I think this fisherman is fishing from this pond. I got my email today. I knew it was a scam.
  21. I do this mostly at the top of the season. I could take it out of their refund, but there is a bank fee. I want their money in THEIR pocket and MY pocket. We don't share. It has been very good for my business.
  22. I think if I was a complete numbnuts, I would still know how to find my EIN number for my LLC and would not require 6 emails from my very lovely tax professional. How bout you?
