  1. Drake did a very large fix on today's update. My problem was with the 3805V . Rejected on Tuesday fixed today. Many Ca fixes.
  2. As to Drake fixing the Ca 3805V, no worries there. They are working on it now.
  3. Thanks. Words and pictures just cannot describe the devastation that occurred in northern California this past year. Our home was hit twice by the Carr fire. The intensity of the fire was unbelievable. We found a cast iron skillet that was only recognizable by its warped handle. The out pouring of our community was indescribable. Anywhere we went, people were there to do anything for us. We and our pets got out safely and are moving on. (We got or computers out AND I don't need to worry about securing my old files!)
  4. Anyone dealing with Ca wild fires in 2018, Drake is not handling The Carr and Camp fires correctly. The disaster code for both fires are not on the 3805V. When using an existing code, ie code 100, Drake does not carry the loss as a Disaster, but as a General losses not subject to carry back/carry forward. Drake is working on a fix. Fortunately, the problem is only affecting my own return, but the season is young.
  5. Did you go to firm setup and enter your efin number for efle confirmatio?
  6. Email from Drake.
  7. The Drake board asked and was told around December 3rd.
  8. Received 10/10: Dear Tax Professional, Congratulations! To thank you for repeatedly renewing your Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) early, you have the opportunity to renew your PTIN before the season opens to other tax return preparers. The PTIN system is ready to accept your renewal from today through Oct. 15. Should you miss this opportunity, you can still renew your PTIN during renewal season beginning later in the week.
  9. I gave up trying. On and off for two years. Fortunately, I am basically retired with only three clients that are so simple even a newbie at one of the chains could do it right.
  10. Congratulations, but not for having to put with our FTB, or whoever the legislature appoints to take them over - maybe the bullet train commission?
  11. With the IRS directory ( which I opted out) and in California, the CTEC directory our names, addresses and phone numbers available, we have no choice but to be overly diligent. My wife, who used to sell insurance, always said, you can never have enough.
  12. No exceptions. Have lost clients that have all of their "stuff" including working papers. Their comment, "They want to talk to you." No way!!!
  13. On August 7, 2015, the Office of Attorney General announced a settlement of the civil and criminal actions against Deutch. Per the terms of the settlement, the state of California withdrew its criminal contempt of court charges and dismissed its civil lawsuit. In exchange, Deutch agreed to pay a fine of $2.5 million and perform 350 hours of volunteer work.[26] DisbarmentEdit

    Drake tax planner

Due to changes signed into law on December 22, 2017, the availability of the Tax Planner will be delayed and will not be active in the second shipment of Drake17 (January 2018). An update to Drake17 will enable the Tax Planner and allow for tax planning scenarios for tax year 2018. To assist with tax planning for 2018, a new Tax Act Impact page will populate for each return. This page will be based on the tax law changes, however, it is only an estimate of how the changes will affect the taxpayer based on their 2017 return. Pricing for this page is available under Setup > Pricing.
  15. Drake has changed the length of time to 180 days before you need to change the software password.

  17. Ca will go after anything they can. They figure they have nothing to lose. I think they sometimes act like spammers hoping someone will pay rather than fight them.
  18. I have a client (personal friend) who has worked for an s corp in Georgia since 2010. I checked with him and the s corp and the corp has never been contacted by anyone from California. I also believe, but not positive, the call should have originated from the FTB.
  19. I have a grocery that I shop at. They scan the check, imprinted with void and hand it back after you sign the credit/debit pad.
  20. I believe the opt out has been there for at least two if not three years. The amount of tax cr.. is gone to almost nothing since I "checked the box." But, it has taken a couple of years. Even though I have opt out, my name and all information is still in the ptindirectory. Some of which is incorrect.
  21. $200 for me, BUT, I had a similar situation years ago where I did the work for half price on the condition Mom would come back the next year. Up until this year that brought me eight extra returns. This year, since this was my last, I set them up to go to VITA next year, with me looking over the returns after the fact. They brought me more than enough income over the years and they have all become good friends. (The Jack Daniels Single Barrel helps a lot.)

    Took The Plunge

The best thing I ever did with taxes was to switch from ATX. I have or had since I am retiring a small practice and it was a very small learning curve, I hardly noticed. My last few years, I used the pay per return ATX. The reps would not even bother to talk to me. When I did get one he or she was gone the next time I called. I did have to "mickey mouse" a few things, but tax knowledge made it easy. I did notice last year, they waited a long time to give us the full version. I maybe wrong, but I think it was after Oct 15.
