  1. THERE IS NO GOING BACK TO 2011...GET OVER IT. 6 NETWORK STATIONS AND STILL USING XP...GO FISH. UPGRADE TO WIN7 IF YOU CAN FIND IT...NO WIN8...IT WILL BE YOUR NEXT UPGRADE NIGHTMARE.
  2. and then... there is the recent report from noaa that 2012 average temps in n america/usa was the highest in "recorded" history (and 8 out of ten in the last 25 years since around 1880). before any of you spew "what about before or after 1880", take the time to review scientific climate history...there is 700000 years of evidence in greenland and antarctica ice cores (plus several million years of evidence in pacific and atlantic ocean sediment cores) that the earth is warming beyond any prior "natural" climatic cycles.
  3. then there is always the rest of the story...what is your computer setup? xp/win7, stand alone/network, and 2-8+ gig ram capacity.
  4. ...now you are just being nyc outrageous. i believe i can answer your question...for a fee. 1/20th of 1% x $2 million = $1000. bank routing and account number supplied upon request.
  5. mm and others have the answer for this small fish (and even for bigger fish). i avoid the installment process...too much irs bs (unless balance due is really big). efile the return. pay what you can by 4/15 on fm1040v. wait for irs statement. pay off what you can. rinse and repeat. payoff within a year or so (plus an interest charge).
  6. stick a fork in trx...it's done. fuhgeddaboutit! please!
  7. after what we continue to go through in the atx and irs contributed nightmare... i wish "a plague on all your (tax prep program) houses." romeo and juliet (spoiler alert...they all died)
  8. the 'check' off is there and needed to get the disability pension amount to ln 7...from fm1099r, box 7, code 3, + under the min retirement age. now, i do agree that "under the min retirement age " is about the min soc sec age, although i think the min soc sec age is also the min company retirement age.
  9. my 1cent opiion...i don't think it is possible to go back.
  10. you pose good questions...but, i think? it is not about any "college aid" an individual student/family is eligible for, or not (for example, pay it all from your own resources whether or not you fill out a fafsa). it depends on the macro college/fed government relationship...does the college accept fed gov loan payments. you say the college in question told you they do not accept fed student loan payments... you may be right, and i don't have any skin in this game, but i question that 2nd hand hearsay.
  11. whoopee!! don't get me wrong, i take it every time. this little bit ALONE, saves up to 1/3 of my average 165 - 255++ tax billing: $250 x 15% fed + 7% state marginal tax bracket = 55 tax savings...or $250 x 25% fed + 9% state marginal tax bracket = 85 tax savings.
  12. i confirm jainen and joel. also, with the fm1099 code 3, i believe you need to check something about ?before company retirement age.
  13. i have a few needy clients (out of 100+) who are backed up a bit (2 or 3 weeks) and do things like this (mainly phone call/messages about "MY RETURN"). i return their call, sooner than later, and tell them they are not ready, yet...why? their return has particular PROBLEMS (almost always true and they know it) that require my specific attention. i tell them: "i hope to get your return out in the next week, or so" (almost always true...unless a rare extension is needed). i ran this story by my insightful wife. i told her... i REALLY want to tell the needy clients that every 5 minute call/response is a +$10 addition to their billing. she is wise. she advised: don't tell them...just do it.
  14. well, you have edited/updated your latest communication with the school...that "they do not receive tuition payments through government loans". somehow, i hold this 2nd hand hearsay in reserve. the "beauty" school i took the aoc stated in their literature that they accept student loan payments...as they say, your mileage may vary.
  15. the question is: can/does this school accept federal government sponsored, student loan payments toward the student's tuition expenses?
  16. you claim bart simpson as a totem/idol...do you even know what 'serious/mean' means? i was encouraging kc to just stick to "the (tax) facts, ma'am"...everything else is a narcissistic distraction. after all, this is a tax board. thank you christain for the follow up. it pretty much confirms kc's "yes"...a tax answer/confirmation i really appreciate.
  17. i agree with jainen's reference to pub 970...and, therefore, the students ability to claim any allowed tuition tax credits. i have no/(ok, just a little) doubt this vocational/beauty "school" is on board with receiving tuition payments from student loans administered through the us dept of educ. for 20+ years, the federal government has encouraged and sponsored this growing $2 trillion+? student loan/pyramid scheme. it is just another unfunded (deficit) fed program that some day will have to be paid for.
  18. it's good to see your response (minimal or otherwise) to a tax question...instead of recent, over weighted, and subjective responses as a joker, censor, or right wing apologist. over many years, your valued tax opinions have helped me form and confirm my own tax opinions/decisions...thank you.
  19. john h offers an ubiquitous question. my nt response... you turn it into a partisan rhetorical harangue...you offend me.
  20. i think so. i also think this .NET update, or any win update (as jack suggests)...is needed and independent about how the atx program does or doesn't work. i'm a w7, standalone, also. i'm an atx small fry (trying to do 100, fairly complex personal returns on atx1040...plus a 5 or 10 pay per return package for extra needs). i have had little trouble with atx since early feb when i originally installed 12.5/7(?). my set up is as simple as i can make it (for me). i do not have a network setup. i do not have altered forms, schedules, client letters, instructions etc. that need to be rolled over.

    1096 efile completed?

hi #1 newbie, GGNYC. i don't think the 1096 is efiled. i think you are ok.
  22. or with a rental gain...it seems the passive activity loss fm8582 is needed (but irs delayed) with a rental gain or loss.
  23. you (have to be the one to) make the call about what you think is fair (for you). as others have suggested...it is based on $/hour. if you are inexperienced and slow to get there, it will be less $/hour. if you are more experienced and efficient, it will be more $/hour.
  24. i have no argument about upgrading older xp/god forbid vista computers to newer w7/god forbid w8 computers. i don't believe sfa and fpjst give any indication they are computer hardware/software novices new to this board. i think they can take criticism like big boys. if i'm wrong, i'm wrong and i apologize...we shall see if they stay or go. about calling me rude..."YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS", john mcenroe...pot/kettle, etc.
  25. pub 463, pg 6...same as last year...$59/day...without the extra higher standard of living detailed, city records.
