Everybody hates bad news, but the only bad news here is all the tax law changes and delays, and if you feel Eric is doing a good job with the site don't forget to click on the "Donations" link, lets show our appreciation to him.
I like efile because in case someone has filed, I get a rejection... at that point I question them and I solve the issue before two legit returns get to the IRS.
Since you have to use 2019 on both EIC and child credits if higher, be careful because you have to manually select both.
on Sch EIC Step 5, 2 you have to check the box. Then go to Sch 8812, 6a and manually enter the 2019 amount.
If someone is doing the way I am doing it, let us know. If doing it different, please share.
I looked into this a bit further and have decided to go ahead and use the existing social security numbers. The Service will likely require verification from them and I am going to advise the couple of this. I feel certain this process is going to take time and they will need to be patient. They married last year and after reading the letter from the Service I came away with the strong impression the wife mistakenly filed a return herself and has now caused this problem. It never occurred to me to ask if she had filed a prior return. It takes all kinds.
The reason you have to restart the computer is because ATX 2020 stays resident... o when you click on the icon to open it again, nothing happens. You have to run task manager and "end" ATX 2020. Then you will be able to open it without rebooting.
That family filing jointly will receive $1,200 for the filer with SSN, $500 for the 16 year old for the first stimulus and then $600 for the filer and $600 for the child for the second stimulus.
If you have another printer, please change your default printer.
Update the drivers for your printer.
To isolate the issue, make a pdf printer your default, print the return to pdf and then print the pdf file. Also, open 2019 and print from there. If ONLY ATX 2020 is the one with the issue, you might have to reinstall.
What version of Windows 10 are you using?
How much RAM does your computer have?
I'm holding off. Among other reasons, I expect IRS server problems the first day and don't want clients to be in limbo, not knowing if their returns went through un-corrupted.
Given all we are dealing with this tax season, I think you have to raise fees to justify all the extra time spent on each return. This tax season will be unlike any other.
I hear you! I held off raising fees until 3 years ago then instituted a $25 CTC/AOC/EITC fee just to answer all those cursed 8867 questions about clients that I KNOW! And, of course, it only applied to those getting those credits. Then last year added a $25 technology fee as I had to upgrade to Win 10 and then a new scanner compatible with Win 10. I recovered all those costs and omitted it this year. As I bill by time, I think any issues that arise with the EIP stuff, will sort themselves out.
I'll charge extra for two MFS returns instead of one MFJ return when one spouse make less than $75,000 and can claim RRC1 and RRC2 as MFS. Maybe a Research charge for all the questions, explanations, and especially phaseout calculations.
Especially if it is one of the people that kept bugging me all summer about where there check was, because they did not want direct deposit but wanted this free money right away, then I will certainly charge to put the amount they got on their tax return.
It will depend on the situation. If my client me gives accurate detailed info and they received the EIP up front, then no charge.
If i have to do extra work then there will be an additional fee, especially if the reconciliation generates a credit on their return.
