  1. my bank just informed me that as of 3/18 I have to keep a $25,000 balance to avoid a newly imposed $35 a month service charge for an account which for over 15 years has been free. My assistant was given the task of finding us a new bank; we go Sturday to interview the new, local, bank to open a new account there,
  2. MA 2013 acks and CA prior year acks outstanding We have outstanding acks from MA current year and CA prior year state returns. No action needed by the ERO or Customer Care- our EFC team is working with the states on affected returns. Posted by Stephanie Bradford 2/14/14 at 5:49 PM Labels: ATX, state software
  3. Have the client bring you the final paycheck stub. Dollars to donuts it shows the employee's share of health insurance, deducted pre-tax.
  4. Did you customize your master 1040EF form? That might be the culprit.
  5. I noticed that too, but not on all clients' letters. Very strange. I ended up 'copying and pasting' the letter into Word and then rearranging the paragraphs the way I want them. Not the best solution, but workable. I did not want to take the time to figure out how to change the paragraph order in the ATX program; re-doing it in Word was faster (for me) than learning ATX's programs work-arounds.
  6. Louisiana allows e-filing for only the current year.
  7. I received ACK's today for 2011 and 2012 federal returns, e-filed 1/27.
  8. I get a federal refund of $35.00 single, no dependents 1040A AGI 69030 standard deduction 6100 personal exemption 3900 taxable income 59030 tax 10685 w/h 10720 refund 35
  9. Found the answer to my question on the ATX Community Board - ".....because we pursued the MeF implementation of 94x this year, it's a lot closer to filing any other business or 1040 return. The 10-digit "LOI" pin is no more, and instead you can self-select one (or continue to use the Reporting Agent, IRS-assigned 5-digit PIN, if you so choose)." Thanks! ATXJosh
  10. Prior quarters (2012 and 2013) the 941/940 efile PIN was a 10-digit number. For the 4th Quarter 2013 the worksheet is asking for a 5-DIGIT PIN. When did the IRS change that? Or is that a program glitch?
  11. Last I heard the 940/941 efile would be available on or around 1/26.
  12. Use form 8594, Asset Acquisition Statement, via which both the seller and the buyer report the assets sold and purchased. It will walk you through the various categories of assets; anything left over after itemizing the tangibles is goodwill.
  13. Cross posting re MA Unemployment New client - moved to LA from MA in June 2011. In reviewing their 2011 self-prepared federal, MA, and LA tax returns (in preparation for amending - omitted W2), it appears the taxpayers did not report on their MA return the MA unemployment received. My review of the MA DOR website leads me to conclude that unemployment IS TAXABLE to MA. I have added MA Form CA-6 to the return, as amended. It appears that the 'amended' MA return is just like a 'new' return; I do not see a box to check to state it is amended, other than including the form CA-6. Please confirm, or correct my understanding, and if I am missing something. . Thank you, Lynn
  14. Square has no enrollment fee. There are only the processing fees.
  15. Square does not charge a monthly fee. There is a 2.7% charge for card swipes; it goes up to 3% for 'phone' orders wherein you keyin the c/c number.
  16. i have an ipad and an iPhone, and use Square; I have had no problems with it. it is possible to print reports, per charge, dailyreports, weekly reports, monthly reports, etc.
  17. What I read about update 12.19 was it is supposed to,give us the working versions, short and comprehensive, of the tax organizers. Lynn
  18. I would like the format for the k-1 inputs (where you enter recourse/nonrecourse/capital/ etc. for 1065 and 1120S to be vertical pages instead of the horizontal line.
  19. I am so glad I have not purchased any of Accountants World's products.
  20. Ahhh, now that depends. For clients for whom I had prepared the returns, and had all pertinent documentation, I have had 'no change' results. For clients who self prepared, ignored all requests for documentation, etc., not so good. In general, though, I have found Appeals very good to work with.
  21. Non attorneys MAY be admitted to Practice before the Tax Court, after they pass the rigorous and grueling Tax Court exam which is administered every two years in Washington DC. The pass rate is very low, about 4 - 6%. Enrolled Agents may represent the client once the Tax Court case is referred back to Appeals. Generally my clients, when filing their pro se tax court petitions, ask that for a case location at the local IRS Appeals Office. After the case is assigned a number, and sent to Appeals, the Appeals Officer has contacted me for appointment dates.
  22. you're right - I forgot . It's all good....... brain freeze !!!! THANKS
  23. I went into ATX 2012 to do quarterly payroll reports and all the payroll forms have disappeared. In fact, none of my payroll clients show in the client listing either. I rolled one over from prior year and no forms show up and when I tried to add them the payroll forms (941, for example) was not even available in the forms list. Either a major glitch in their system or they have modified their offerings, again without notice to their client. Needless to say, I am not pleased. Anyone else? Lynn
