  1. I wish I would win something worth $200K and a dealer buy it for $150K. I would pay tax on the $200K and SMILE. People are so greedy!!
  2. And I catch flack for not upgrading to WIN 10. (somewhere there is an "I told you so...)
  3. Tell him to give the $16K to me, I will pay the tax on $20K and smile on the way to the bank with the rest. Even if the tax is $5k, I am still smiling as I deposit the rest. Some people just DON"T GET IT!!
  4. I agree. Reboot the computer between attempts.
  5. Conversion = Repairing data shifts, no matter which two software companies you are referring to. It is a fact of life for conversion. No conversion is seamless. NONE!!
  6. My simple answer is still the same. Yes.
  7. You cannot have a workstation version and a standalone version on the same computer. Uninstalling the workstation version is much more involved than just using add/remove programs. Call tech support. I could go into a long explanation, but the answer is no, you cannot have both versions on the same computer..
  8. I heard the same kind of mindless, senseless and ignorant ranting when I was in Middle School in 1968. Cars were supposed to be driving themselves, etc. by the year 2000 and cash was to be extinct by 2010. I give as much credence to those predictions as the outcome of the ones I heard in 1968. There will not be enough people with proper basic education to have such a society.
  9. I have seen the check written to a state, sent to the IRS being stamped with "DEPARTMENT OF TREASURY" over the name written on the check then processed. Intentional Apathetic Ignorant Stupidity cannot be healed.
  10. Does anyone have an example of this happening? IRS fear mongering...
  11. Really? Please tell me one instance where the IRS set a notice about not taking RMD? The IRS cannot even match 5498s for IRA transfers. The IRS has not the time, resources nor the will to monitor multiple millions of retirement accounts. Remember: Our tax system is an honor system....
  12. The IRS does not monitor the balances in IRA, 401K, 503B etc. accounts.
  13. I like the way you think!!!
  14. Still wondering? Is anyone else going to Atlanta? Love to meet up with you there.
  15. Way too soon. Wait for your notification. The issue is still in the court system. There may NOT be a renewal fee. Grab the popcorn and wait to see.
  16. Client filed their own 2011 return by mail on April 14, 2015. She hurriedly filed to preserve her refund. She received the refund as filed. She contacted us 8 days ago to amend her return to include her home business she operated in 2011. She is going to show a small loss, so there will be an additional small refund of approx. $95. Here is the question: Since the amended return will be filed after the statute has expired, will she receive the refund based on the fact that the original was filed before the statute expired? My gut tells me no, and I have not located any documentation about this, thus I am interested in some other opinions.
  17. Reboot. Then just keep clicking retry till it gets its brain straight. This is NOT a message about connection to the ATX server on the internet. It is an internal error for the program connecting to the server portion of the program.
  18. Seeing as how my ex always had issues meeting those things, even though she was working as well, is the very basis for my "issue" with how she was spending my child support money. I spent more money helping keep those things current for my children. I do not begrudge spending any money to take care of my children. I just wish there was a device in place to make her as responsible for spending the money as there was to make sure I paid it. Unless you have been there, you have no idea.
  19. I just wish that I, as the non-custodial parent, had some rights to be certain that my child support was actually spent on my children. I paid faithfully and timely for 11 years. I KNOW she did not spend it on my children like she should have, but was powerless to do anything. Rant over.
  20. Child support payments are not taxable and are not deductible by the paying party. Period, end of statement. This is not new.
  21. In the meantime, my business and the firm's business will cruise into 2015 WITHOUT any need for worry about OS learning curves, peripheral driver compatibility, new OS bug, etc. We can concentrate on tax business and the tax program. This will be our process for at least the next 4 tax seasons. Software learning curves are enough to worry about. A firm with 8 preparers during season does not have time to school everyone about a new OS.
  22. All they need is the appropriate number of CPE credits.
