  1. Jack, Did this not mean the client was fraudulent to either the state or the fed's? If OH made them file single and they had to have the same as for fed's but were actually legally married --- then they (and you if you in fact knew) lied and committed perjury when signing the return. Either way, even if forced --- the government made that person a criminal and possibly (just to be nice, as it is a fact) the preparer too.
  2. jklcpa ATX Supreme GuruSure, just confuse me --- not on the UN tax things but on going incognito with a new avatar....
  3. Your Octopus Adorabilis might be related to a "land" persona ------- :
  4. Just so you know ---- Medicare says that should you purchase a "lift chair" recliner/stationary, etc. (helps you get up and down) is only partially considered medical --- lift part and the rest is "furniture" --- regardless of cost --- Medicare will only pay for $250-$351.00 toward a "lift chair". Therefore the massage part (depending on Dr. script) may not even be considered medical. ALSO -- does the IRS put reasonable expense costs on furniture???
  5. Hi Naveen, Not from MD but here may be some good sites: Tobacco tax -- http://taxes.marylandtaxes.com/Business_Taxes/Business_Tax_Types/Tobacco_Tax/ Tobacco tax forms & licenses //// Maybe # 637? http://taxes.marylandtaxes.com/Business_Taxes/General_Information/Business_Tax_Forms_and_Instructions/Tobacco_Tax_Forms/ Administrative Info : OTHER TOBACCO PRODUCTS (OTP) "RETAILER" LICENSES http://taxes.marylandtaxes.com/Resource_Library/Tax_Publications/Administrative_Releases/Tobacco_Tax_Releases/ar_tt13.pdf Hope some of this helps.
  6. This may sound political BUT IS NOT -- it applies to all parties (unfortunately). Cynical - YES /// political -- no. Fixing the tax code for politicians (and other government programs i.e. social security, Medicare, etc.) is not in their (politicians) best interest. PLEASE NOTE: It is in the interest of the "people" but that is different from what is best for politicians. The fixes for the IRS are all basically simple and have been discussed in detail here and also in congress --- require earlier reporting, later filing and matching, etc.. All will help alleviate the unwanted (by the "people") problems. It is the same for Medicare and social security amongst other programs -- a Medicare fraud article in AARP magazine ended by saying ---- we needed to not only figure a way to watch for fraud but need to convince people -- not to commit it, in the first place. Herein lies the "other shoe" for politicians --- rather than make people personality responsible and if they commit fraud ---/// timely; take everything they have and any possible part of any gain - including costs to "get them" ---- thus making it UNPROFITABLE and BOTHERSOME TO DO /// LOOSE everything /// more people would decide not to "do damage to others" for their own profit, etc.. Currently (and foreseeable future) no one in congress (or other levels (lower and/or higher) will do what needs done because it will not only lower their own power base and not be profitable for them BUT given many do eventually get caught --- possibly make them accountable and they might "loose everything" when caught. Shame, but I am at a lost of where to choose, etc. - I still recommend voting even though we are usually picking the "best of the worst" BUT EVENTUALLY --- we might get back up there where we are picking better and better --- as time goes on. rant/temporally over.

  8. Just to clarify ( as I am at times a dunderhead) --- Win 7 can be taken to win 10 without going through any of the 8's --- yes - no??? Will there be "driver" changes for existing hardware? In earlier "upgrades" sometimes old equipment would not function. Any idea if win 10 will PROPERLY run ATX (pass and future editions) especially 2014 an upcoming 2015? Thanks in advance.
  9. More info is required. Payback - what & maybe why. Can he just take 150 now from new employer with other 150 paid to him next year, etc. (If understood, basically the 300 is @‌ 50% so the 150 might be there to -- but it saves 75 intax - yes he needs to come up with 75 but maybe that can be -- next year??) 2015 income is income -- so why would old employer deduct the 300 from that for him --- again, what is 300 paid back - for?
  10. There has been discussion on QuickBooks time to time, so I thought some of you might be interested in this upcoming webinar Yes, there is always a "sales" side to these things but --- no pressure as the CPAAcadem.org : http://www.cpaacademy.org/ actually has a lot of information --- it is just up to you to glean and also not buy something ---- unless you see a real benefit ---//// BUT the information is good regardless. Renewal

Sharing this because the initial pricing for ATX ends by May 31, 2015. Maybe you can still do good, after --- But I did not want to worry. Finally called ATX today --- found last years rep apparently not there --- so emails probably "lost in space". However did talk with one of my new rep's team (team member - Robert Duncan at 800-495-4626 x 1231 // rep is Will VanKleef same # dif. ext - 1223) and was pleased about "attitude" (old ATX -- facts and full information and answer any questions, etc..). By the way, worked with Will back a few years and he is straight forward too, just as Robert was today. Bottom line, no discount code added to price shown and as a matter of fact -- new price shown on the site is now listed at regular retail (when code block there that was actually price for already customers). My small package lists (now) at a bit over $100 more than my price (I am simply a 1040 package user). My aggravation over the "extra fee" for shipping, CD's and such (since they do not really ship anyway and I use all downloads, etc.)) was partially alleviated when Robert explained the "fee" was not just shipping, etc. but was for them to do a set-up and migration of data each year along with keeping a "pipe" open to SS and IRS for e-filing, etc.. One thing I loved to hear was that the PRS system was again back to individual pricing (yes, business returns are $54.00 while the 1040 returns are $35.00) and I do not have to buy the PRS system separately to do the few returns outside my package. Good dollar savings for me. If thinking or wondering, call Robert or Will and get the facts --- then decide. Have a Great Memorial Day holiday and rest up for whatever congress and the irs throw at us --- next year.
  12. IRS -- NEVER forgets !!!! Case in point (several decades old): 1984 IRS came to workplace (past life for me where I had numerous "tax" clients as we worked together). A supervisor had over the past several years convinced 5-7 of my clients NOT to file taxes as he had been doing (old adage ---illegal taxation -- do not need to, etc.). IRS shows up, takes individuals off duty to come and "chat" with them at administrative offices (on site) where they asked what was going on, etc.. Called me off post and basically we discussed "what the supervisor was doing" and did they really believe it or just scamming. Bottom line, easily "scared" my clients that had not filed for a few years --- "back into the fold" and they filed back and continued to file future, etc.. IRS, left supervisor NOT FILING but with not instigating others to "not file" either for another 8-10 years. Then supervisor retired --- pension, etc. --- guess who took major chunk out of supervisor's pension --- IRS; one lump sum which included what THEY (IRS) said should have been paid with all penalties' and fees you could imagine. Took the IRS close to twenty years BUT they REMEMBERED --- and made a lot of dollars with those penalties and fees --- why hurry --- they can get it later in cases like this --- especially if they know there is possibility of pension or such to get when it opens up.
  13. NOTE: From my agent and pass knowledge - Umbrella will not cover anything that is not already covered--- i.e. if you have business ins. then umbrella may extend coverage --BUT -- if you do NOT have business ins. and the loss is do to business pursuits, etc. them umbrella will NOT extend or cover. If coming to do business (taxes) and falls on ice -- there could be no coverage from any part of the "normal" policy as it occurred because of business and therefore umbrella would NOT cover. NOTE: From several "clients" knowledge who have had both personal and smaller claims ---- usually somewhere in the policy -- you --- give the insurance company to decide/close the case for you ---- therefore they may decide to "settle" and you are done --- yes, current issue closed but still Fault has been admitted and it is on your insurance record --- regardless. CAREFUL what you ask for ----- the attorney paid feature is nice -- however it can also "bite" you (especially if your policy has a "cap" on what may be paid not just to settle issue but on what is/can be spent for attorney and court fees. Just food for thought --- I tend to agree with (and have been "insurance poor") having as much coverage as possible for whatever claims might arise but each to their own as I know many who do not have E&O tax coverage but as insurance/financial agents have E&O for that part.

    Last Call!

Eric Maybe it is just "perception" from being in a "bigger" disk space?? As George CaStanza said on "Seinfield" after coming out of the water -- "at times there may be what appears as "shrinkage". Just my 2 cents worth.
  15. Thanks for thought. Tried to obtain, only received a confirmation to be subscribed to a "list". Went to blog and found the wording describing the "Decision Tree" and what to do if I liked it, and wanted more etc.. However never saw decision tree and site would not let me do anything else. Even tried to click on the $29.00 pay button and nothing happened (except it said wrong page error 404 etc.). Again, thanks for thought but it did not work for me.
  16. I agree Jack --- it will go no where --- but I am a die-hard (remember they had Bruce Willis in a movie and with sequels about my attitude). Thursday (today) received no less than four emails (ad's all from CCH?ATX) about locking in prices, etc. (still no other response) -- BUT -- with one small change --- in the one email they mention that the price (what I consider retail) will GO UP after May 31, 2015.
  17. Received same ad. Emailed my rep. (also, Jason Marx, president CCH and my reps. boss and my reps. sub-rep) and asked where the "discount code" was to fill-in the box for the "page with the best price" rather than the RETAIL price shown on the page and on all other CCH/ATX ad's and emails. Also, questioned the additional charge for the initial mailing and "updates" (2 times a year) when historically --- ATX/CCH has (at least for the pass few years) NOT sent me anything other than an initial disk and booklet --- which is not used as all DOWNLOADS, instructions, etc. are all "internet" based for latest information, etc. So I also asked for price without this UN-needed extra price. That was yesterday at 1800 hr. EST and no reply as of now --- 1922 hr. EST April 22, 2015.
  18. Have a client in the same circumstances. However the practitioner help line person I connected to (after 2 hr. 57 min. on hold) was good enough to check and find that the return had been placed into a "non-processing" area where they wait for 6-9 weeks to see if any other action is needed. The representative's "guess" was that the person had a past history of someone stealing their identity and the "service" was doing the wait -- because of being careful. My client did have identity theft issues pass few years (nothing with IRS or government, just credit cards) and actually understood what the IRS had done (NOT pleased but understood). We will await the weeks left and HOPE the feds do not "forget" about the return (as my client stated and I had shared with the IRS rep. When I shared my clients concern about the IRS "forgetting about the return"; the IRS rep. said that the IRS does not forget and agreed with me when I told him, yes the IRS has been called a "lot of things" BUT forgetful is NOT one of them. Was hoping your mentioning this would bring me luck --- just checked --- return still being processed -- no luck --- more waiting...
  19. Alright --- I'll say what everyone is thinking ----- I WANT TO SEE THE VIDEO ! when done --- unedited ---. You decide what/who I am talking about and YES, you can all holler at me ---- (part alligator).
  20. Agreed there will be many ---- but that is something we as a country need to change anyway ---- If the people themselves will not bother ---- then they are responsible and have to live with it. Personal responsibility is GREAT --- otherwise too many people say --- why bother, someone will feel sad (and take care of me (even when I would not myself))) . Nothing more said as it gets into morals and such ......
  21. Illmas, Above might be a possibility (sch. C) BUT physicians typically have very stringent liability insurance. As an example, my doctor has coverage while at the clinic he is employed at (or other clinics he might be assigned to by the employer --- however this does not even cover him outside the building where the clinic is located ---- and goes further --- only for any clinic patients. My physician also works with some drug theory individuals (different employer - yes Doctors have 2nd jobs too) and his clinic employer's insurance does NOT cover any of that --- he has to have a different and separate policy for that employment. Therefore --- if the employer he left makes him pay for that part of the insurance, the insurance may only be deductible as sch. A because it can not be used otherwise. And we thought our E&O had limitations at times.
