FWIW.....my newest laptop is Win 7 Home 64 bit and ATX 2008, 2009 and 2010 are all working fine with it.

My Cosmotologist client has a Credentials License as well as an Operators License. I know this because I just had to renew both of them for her. Also, she had to complete continuing Ed this year to get it renewed. (Did not take any education credits for her this year because it was only a three day renewal course.) I agree with gailtax that the AOC should be allowed.

Jainen, are you OK physically? You were gone for a while and we found out how much we needed you here, however that is selfish. Take care of yourself.

 They will be releasing SP1 very soon. As far as I and my "guru" can tell, Windows 7, 65 bit is very solid. At first there were issues with printer drivers, but two weeks ago I installed an older printer on my Win 7 laptop and it automatically went looking for and downloaded the driver that I needed. All those automatic windows updates are there for a reason. Of course, if my desktop with XP never dies, I will be a happy person, but one has to move with the times. Thankfully I was able to avoid Vista totally.

I had one of those this year for a 15 year old boy who won a snowmobile race. I put it on line 21 of the "Boy's" return and it was ackd. If they ever question it, he could surely wipe it out with expenses. Sometimes these reporting forms drive you nuts and you can rarely get anyone to change them. Mine was in nonemployee compensation. Go figure that one out.

yes, it is a happier time of year. Just had a new client couple walk out of here with a $39000 capital gain on a rental property that they owed minimal tax on. They are retired and were so scared when they first came in. They bought the property in 1973 for hardly anything and have rented it out for all of these years. Of course, there were major improvements over the years, but nothing that cost a lot of money. They were basically taxed on the addback of the depreciation which wasn't a lot because they never paid a lot for anything. Nice to see a happy ending. They owe both Fed and WI, but not a fraction of what they were expecting. Hugs all around on this one.

No, we have lots of wild turkeys here, too. Both fowl and human.

Unfortunately, my long-fought request for Innocent Spouse Relief for the 2008 client that I have spoken about often on this board; has been preliminarily denied. Along with the $1800 penalty that goes along with it.

There is a box to check at the top of the 2106 to indicate that this is an OTR driver and then will automatically calculate the 80% for you.

Per 1040 Express Answers, pages 6-11 and 6-12 states that a special meal allowance applies to Transportation industry workers. Before Oct 1, 2010 the special rate is $59 per day; after September 30, 2010, the special rate remains at $59 per day.

DOT rates for OTR are $59 for the entire year. They do not change in Oct.

I am totally like that, right down to the calico cat who always wants to lay on my appointment book when someone calls. She actually comes in at night and lets me know that she thinks it is time to go to bed.

I cannot even get to the other side of my office where I also have a paper cutter, somewhere, under something. I am starting to tell my clients that I have organized clutter. I am becoming surrounded by piles. If the IRS lets me stay in business, I may have to put an extension on this room before next year.

They all have an uninstall.exe file in the program files in Windows Explorer. 2002 and 2003 are listed as Saber. The rest of them are ATX.

I was taught to keep the Fed and WI copies with the 8879 in my files and put the employee copy in the copy of the return that I give to the client.

What is really starting to tick me off is having to cut apart W2 and 1099 forms. I thought they were all supposed to be perforated this year. Seems like there are more that need the scissors treatment than ever. Of course, a lot of those are 1099G Unemployment forms. Heaven forbid that the government should follow their own advice. Love and money are still mixing here. He has his business and I have mine.
-
Same here. I have never signed the "new" 1040 whether I had prepared the original return or not.
-
That is really neat, but how do you incorporate a copy of the tax bill into the PDF?
-
But, if you are e-filing WI, it has to be incorporated into the return. A few years ago, we couldn't e-file for the Homestead credit. Now we can, however, as soon as the return is accepted, we have to mail the W-RA to Madison along with a copy of the property tax or rent receipt to verify that they actually had the expense. Remember, the property tax does not have to have been actually paid in order to qualify for Homestead Cr.

Not to me! So, are they saying that some of the folks who are paying it back really shouldn't be. I highly doubt that anyone would be that stupid. (well, I may have to eat that statement at some future date.) Anyhow, I think that delaying refunds for taxpayers who are timely paying back their loan credit is ludicrous.
-
I just checked on my client who should have gotten his refund today. The reply is that your refund has been delayed due to processing delays! Oh Wow! My phone will be ringing this afternoon as they have a seven month old baby and are counting on the refund. (Both working, no EIC)
-
It makes no sense to audit them now, when they are paying them back. One of mine spent over a year proving that he qualified for the dang (loan) credit in the first place; now this year he had to start payback and he is one bitter client as the next year's credit was free.

I do have to agree with this. (Sort of dates us, though) We have a warm-mist humidifier going 24/7 at this time of year and so far none of us have had colds. Also, take your vitamins, particularly C and D.
-
Lion may be correct that some states might not allow e-files of non-resident returns. However, you can e-file as many as you like if it is allowed. You used to only be able to file one pigy-back and the rest had to go separate. So far this year the most I have had is three states on one return. All e-filed and all were accepted.

You are right. Nowhere in the user manual did it refer to Loudspeaker, other than to say, "Turn it on!" Not a word on "HOW". I never found the silent, but did find vibrate. It's not like I haven't had a cell phone for, to use Catherine's hilarious phrase, "umpty bazillion" years.
